Welsh Rarebit & Skyscraper Rage: The Holidays Nobody Asked For (Plus Fort Walton's Height Problem)

Description

We're road-tripping to Kentucky for bourbon barrel picks and barrel-aged chaos—because when you can't celebrate National Welsh Rarebit Day in Fort Walton (zero skyscrapers, maximum vibes), you might as well chase whiskey and pretend it's research.

Show Notes

Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell kicked off Thursday morning on 100.3 KROCK, Fort Walton Beach's classic rock station, with some housekeeping: the B Team Morning Show is dark next week while the boys road-trip to Kentucky for barrel picks with their Bourbon with the Boys podcast—a journey sponsored by Marine Max and Grady White Boats. Because nothing says "professional broadcasting" like abandoning your post to chase whiskey in matching shirts.

On the holiday front, we celebrated National Welsh Rarebit Day (melted cheese on toast masquerading as culture), U.S. Bowling League Day (where grown adults argue about oil patterns like it's DEFCON 1), National Skyscraper Day (a cruel joke in height-restricted Fort Walton), and National Baby Back Ribs Day (gnawing bones in public with a side of coleslaw you didn't ask for). High today: 91 degrees with isolated afternoon storms—because Mother Nature enjoys variety.

Local news hit hard: a Fort Walton Beach man named Elliot Maurice Bell got 15 years federal time for meth, cocaine, and fentanyl distribution after fleeing FHP and getting pit-maneuvered into reality. Meanwhile, Okaloosa County is still waiting on Army Corps permits to sink the SS United States and create the world's largest artificial reef—a project that's been gestating longer than some marriages. Fort Walton Beach Police Chief Beige announced the department will keep its license plate readers running, state directive be damned, while a Destin man caught a felony charge for toppling a Flock camera like a drunk Paul Bunyan.

Tomorrow morning, Schuyler and Bobby broadcast live from the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce First Friday Coffee at the Rigdon Center—coverage brought to you by Eglin Federal Credit Union, Okaloosa Gas, and Smalls Sliders. High school football rolls on with Choctaw at Pace (94.3 FTW) and Niceville at Moseley (103.7 The Ticket). And if you're craving 50-cent wings, Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre has you covered every Monday night this NFL season. In Ask Uncle Bobby, our resident life coach advised "Exhausted Calendar Vulture" to literally pay friends to leave them alone—because budgeting for silence is cheaper than a full breakdown. Mary Esther holds budget hearings next week, Trump floated renaming the Strait of Hormuz after himself, and we reminded everyone: if you missed the show, hit up thebteamshow.com for hyperlocal chaos on demand. Now crank the volume and keep on rocking.

(00:00) Here's today's B Team Redux. Super Tramp and take the long way home. Bobby and I are taking the long way to Kentucky next week, and that's by car. That's true. That's true. It won't be too bad. Not too shabby. In case you hadn't heard, the B Team Morning Show not on the air next week, as we'll be doing our Bourbon with the Boys podcast and some exclusive barrel selections for Beach Lickers with some of our friends next week. Yeah, and stay tuned when they get down this way. We may be doing some release parties with some local businesses. (00:35) Establishments. That's right. That's right. So looking forward to that. Stay tuned. We'll see what we can do. And shout out to Jason and Marine Max here in Fort Walton Beach and Grady White Boats for sponsoring our coverage and trip next week. We are the B Team Morning Show. Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell. Friday Eve, as we like to call it around these parts, a high today of 91. We'll check your forecast in just a little bit, but Bobby's going to tell us about National Welsh Rarebit Day. Oh, yeah, yeah. So it's simple. This is the day when we pretend melted cheese on toast is culture. You know, because admitting it's a drunk snack, it hurts somebody's feelings. I couldn't actually tell you if I've ever had one. Never had melted cheese on toast? You've never had cheese toast? Well, sure. (01:22) Like a grilled cheese? No, like cheese toast. Like you put a piece of bread down, you put cheese on top of it and put it in the toaster. I never have. Well, it's just one. I'm uncultured. National Welsh Rarebit is the annual reminder that humanity looked at toast and said, needs more melted cheese and a little moral ambiguity. See, it's not a holiday so much as it's a sanctioned pause in your day to baptize bread and a hot mustardy sauce and pretend you're doing culture instead of damage. See, nobody's here to debate authenticity here. We're here to watch grown adults get misty eyed over dairy on carbs like it's a family reunion. So clear your schedule, loosen your standards and act accordingly. Because if you're going to celebrate something this ridiculous, you might as well commit. All right. National Welsh Rarebit Day. (02:12) Not only I didn't know we were celebrating that today, but I've never even had it. So just uncultured swine. I know. Maybe that's lunch. Where can I get one of those in town? I don't know. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young on KROCK. Bob Seger and the fire down below on the Classic Rock Station, 100.3 KROCK. It's the B Team morning show. I'm Schuyler Black. He's Bobby Dewrell. Of course, every morning we're brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pub and Grill in Navarre, as well as Okaloosa Gas and Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach. Just a quick reminder that high school football is back on the air tomorrow night. We'll have Fort Walton or we'll have Choctaw right here in Fort Walton Beach on 94.3 FTW and we'll have Niceville on 103.7 the ticket. Also all season long, you can catch the Gators and the Crimson Tide play by play on 103.7 the ticket. And if you're a Seminoles fan, don't worry. We've got the Knolls, Florida State on 94.3 FTW. Their next game coming up Monday night, actually, against SMU. Well, it's time to switch gears from chatting about the gridiron to chatting about bowling, apparently. It's U.S. Bowling League Day. Oh yeah, this is where grown adults pay dues to throw a ball at sticks and argue about oil patterns like it's national security. (03:33) It's really that simple, isn't it? Yeah. U.S. Bowling League Day is that proud little glitch in the calendar where grown adults put on matching shirts, rent shoes that have seen things, and, well, call it community. So you show up, you slap hands with a guy named Chip who swears that he used to average 220 before his wrist thing, and then you spend three hours chasing 10 pens like they owe you money. It's not a support. It's not a sport, really. It's a support group with nachos and a scoreboard, and somehow it feels more honest than most holidays. So yeah, it's absurd on purpose because sometimes the only thing holding society together is the sacred promise that Tuesday night is a league night. All right. It's U.S. Bowling League Day, so enjoy that to all who celebrate. All right. We're going to take a break, pay a couple bills, and look at your marine forecast is coming up. You'll want to keep an eye on the weather today. Details on the way on KROCK. Standby for more ROK. 100.3 KROCK. (04:32) Van Halen, Hanford teacher on the classic ROK station, 100.3 KROCK. Are you okay? Yeah, I'm good. I'm just looking at our national day calendar, and we decided today that we would talk about something we have so many of in Fort Walton. It's National Skyscraper Day. (04:55) That's right, because nothing says community like a glass ego stick so tall it blocks the sun and your rent still goes up. Yeah, yeah. The Fort Walton problem's right here, folks. That's right, yeah. It's right here. National Skyscraper Day is that annual moment when we all pretend it's normal to celebrate buildings so tall they make clouds feel self-conscious and pigeons file complaints. Look, it's a tribute to steel, ambition, and the kind of confidence that says, sure, let's stack offices 1,000 feet in the air and call it progress. You know, people post skyline photos, architects get misty-eyed, and the rest of us crane our necks like we're trying to spot our rent money evaporating. So don't worry, this isn't the punchline. It's just the warm-up stretch before we talk about why humans keep building vertical monuments to ego and then acting surprised when the elevator breaks. National Skyscraper Day. (05:49) And if you're bothered or triggered by the fact that we don't have any skyscrapers in Fort Walton, I mean, what's the closest one we've got, Presidio? Nah, that's not a skyscraper. And that is the max height. Actually, I think they had to get a variance allowance from Eglin. Yeah, we're actually controlled to zero here. (06:11) So that's all she wrote on that. Well, don't forget this morning, there is coffee with the city manager, Fort Walton Beach City Jason Davis, holding his monthly Q&A from 10 to 11 today down at the Fort Walton Beach Public Library. And we've got details for you on that at our website, thebteamshow.com. (06:33) I'm Schuyler Black. He's Bobby Dewrell. This is the B Team Morning Show on 100.3K Rock. Here's Billy Squaw. 100.3K Rock, the classic rock station. It's Thursday morning, pre-Friday, Friday Eve, whatever you want to call it. Labor Day weekend, knock it on the door. (06:50) Bobby and I will be live on location tomorrow morning from the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce First Friday coffee event, broadcasting live starting around 630 tomorrow morning until the end of our show. And of course, tomorrow's event is sponsored by the Destin Fort Walton Beach Convention Center, but it's being held at the Rigdon Center, the former Northwest Florida Fairgrounds. And our coverage of the Chamber's monthly First Friday coffee brought to you by Eglin Federal Credit Union, as well as Okaloosa Gas and our newest sponsor, Smalls Sliders right here in Fort Walton. Well, today on the National Day calendar, we've got supper plans for you. (07:33) It's National Baby Back Ribs Day. Oh yeah, because nothing says civilization like adults gnawing bones in public and calling it a holiday. That just sounds gross. Well, I mean, isn't that what it is? Yeah, but you didn't have to say it like that. Well, but I did. I know, I know. I had no warning folks. National Baby Back Ribs Day is that proud moment on the calendar when we all agree the only thing worth honoring is a rack of meat that's been slow cooked into submission and then lacquered with sauce like it's trying to hide its past. Yeah, you know, look, it's not a holiday so much as a group project where the assignment is gluttony and the grade is nap. See, you don't celebrate it with decorations. You celebrate it with a bib, a stack of paper towels, and the kind of confidence that says, yes, I will eat like a raccoon in public. And if you're looking for meaning, well, congratulations. Today's lesson is simple. Joy is messy, expensive, and usually served with coleslaw you didn't ask for. (08:28) National Baby Back Ribs Day. And yeah, I actually do. 81 degrees this morning. It's 710 high today of about 90 this afternoon. We'll check your full forecast in just a little while. How's everybody doing? It is Friday Eve. That's right. Labor Day weekend is right about there. Just about there. (08:50) Nearly there. Yeah, but almost only counts in horseshoes. Right? Horseshoes and hand grenades, that's what I always heard. Yeah, horseshoes and hand grenades, but we have neither of those right now. So, here we are, not to the weekend. The BT Morning Show is on the air. Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell. Hope everybody's waking up, feeling extra chipper this morning. Beautiful day out there. A high today again of 90, but plenty of sunshine this morning. Then this afternoon, we could see a few isolated showers and thunderstorms build around the area. I had to make a trip over to Navarre yesterday afternoon. In Navarre, about 2.30, the bottom dropped out. Here in Fort Walton, nothing. Nada. Nada. Nada. So, yeah, it's funny how that works. (09:46) All right, on the news front this morning, we've got plenty to chat about, including a Fort Walton Beach man that is getting 15 years for his intent to distribute meth. Yeah, I saw that. Also, Okaloosa County waiting for the permit approval to sink the SS United States. An update on that. (10:06) Chief Beige says Fort Walton Beach PD will continue with their license plate reader program inside the city limits. That's right. He said, I don't give a damn what everybody else is doing or what the state says. And a man was arrested in Destin for damaging a Flock camera over in Destin. (10:26) We'll talk about those stories here in just a little while. Plus, later on this hour, yes, Bobby will give us his betting advice for the weekend. And then, well, his advice on life. Ask Uncle Bobby in about 35 minutes as well. (10:43) So stay with us. We've got lots to talk about. Tomorrow morning, of course, we'll be live on location for the show from the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce. Monthly First Friday Coffee. Tomorrow out at the Rigdon Center. (10:58) Rigdonian. Rigdonian. Rigdonian. That sounds really sophisticated, Bobby. That was the idea. Good job. That's right. All right. The Doobie Brothers coming up after Triumph. Fight the good fight. (11:13) The classic rock station. It's 100.3 KROCK. There's the Doobies in Gina Grove. That's right. Gina. Good morning, everybody. Doobie, doobie doo. How you doing? (11:29) Thursday. You ready for the big Labor Day weekend? Oh, yeah. I can't wait. Heading up to T-Roy. Oh, yeah, I am. Yeah, I'll be heading up there on Saturday. Playing Sam Houston State. Yep. Got a car load, a bus load, got a bunch of people going. (11:47) Then you're going to drive back to Fort Walton for 30 hours, maybe? Yeah, maybe. From Lucky. Before you travel another 10 hours north. That's right. Bobby and I will be off the air next week, just a heads up to everybody. (12:04) We're taking a one-week sabbatical. That's right. We figure Dan does it for months at a time. He takes a two-week cruise, so why can't we take a few mornings off? Somehow he takes a two-week cruise every week. (12:19) Yeah. So true. But looking forward to our trip next week. Going up there with some friends and Mike Kelly with Beach Liquors set up a trip for us with the Bourbon with the Boys podcast. (12:36) Got to be doing some barrel selections and distillery tours next week. Got a bunch of cool stops, too. We've got Willet, Four Roses, Knob Creek is another one. We've got some cool stops that Mike's got lined up for us. (12:56) Looking forward to that, of course, thanks to our sponsor, Marine Max of Fort Walton Beach and Grady White Boats for making our coverage next week with Bourbon with the Boys. Possible. Yeah, that was nice. Very nice. (13:11) Well, folks, a Fort Walton Beach man named Elliot Maurice Bell has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing meth, cocaine, and fentanyl with intent to distribute. You know, they call him Maurice. Some people. (13:28) Maurice? Why? Some people call him the Joker. God, that's a terrible Steve Miller reference. Hey, some people call him Maurice. Bobby, when it's Bob-tober next month and that song, its release date coincides with your birthday, you go for it. (13:46) That song is going to play every day of Bob-tober. I think we might get call-ins and complaints. I've heard this damn song too much this month. I don't care. It's my song. So not your birthday month. Bob-tober? You play what Bob wants to hear. (14:02) All right, now, according to court records, Bell fled from FHP during a traffic stop on April 28th of 24, prompting officers to use a pit maneuver to stop his vehicle. Now, after his arrest, authorities searched his vehicle and discovered the drugs. (14:17) The case and resulting conviction were part of a joint investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Florida Highway Patrol. Also, a permit is being waited on by Okaloosa County, nearing completion of plans to sink the historic SS United States in the Gulf, where it's expected to become the world's largest artificial reef. (14:41) Now, the ship has been fully cleaned and prepared for deployment, including the removal of smokestacks and over 100 fuel tanks, making it environmentally safe for the project. Now, county officials are now waiting for the Army Corps of Engineers to approve a permit amendment related to the artificial reef site. (15:00) And once that permit is approved, officials expect the ship could be deployed within about 30 days, although weather conditions could affect the schedule. Now, the project is expected to support tourism and attract divers, anglers, and historians, with funding coming from tourism revenue and project partners rather than taxpayer dollars. (15:24) How long has this project been going on? I feel like this was bought before we even started work on the bridge. I think it was bought before we started the show. So anyway, that's kind of where that project sits at the moment. (15:41) We'll take a break, pay a couple bills. 726 is the time, 20 minutes away from your Daily Advice with Ask Uncle Bobby. On the way, Motley Crue, Jethro Tull, and probably some Rush. Just a bit. It's the B Team Morning Show on 100.3 KROCK. (15:57) There's Jethro on the classic rock station. 100.3 KROCK, it's the B Team Morning Show, brought to you by Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, Okaloosa Gas at OutKast Sushi in Miramar Beach. I'm Schuyler Black. (16:12) He is Bobby Dewrell, taking a quick peek at high school football schedules for this weekend. In fact, tonight, the Crestview Bulldogs are going to be at home hosting Pine Forest. Thursday night matchup for Crestview. (16:27) For Destin, they are going to be at home against North Bay Haven tomorrow night. For Niceville, they'll be on the road tomorrow evening at Moseley. Now, Moseley took down Choctaw in that Week 1 matchup. (16:42) We'll have the Niceville game for you tomorrow night at 7 o'clock on 103.7 The Ticket. Choctaw going to be in action on the road tomorrow night at Pace High School. 7.30 kickoff on 94.3 FTW. (16:59) And Fort Walton Beach, 1-1 on the season. The Vikings will be on the road at West Florida High School tomorrow night. So good luck to the Vikings. But that's a quick synopsis of what we have here in Okaloosa County for high school football tomorrow night. (17:20) Well, Bobby, a gun display at a Shell gas station here in Fort Walton Beach yesterday led to an arrest. 24-year-old Fort Walton Beach man was arrested after police responded to a report of someone displaying a firearm inside the Shell gas station at the corner of Beale and Hollywood. (17:40) Investigators said cell phone videos showed T'Quan Ballard placing a handgun on the store counter. Some people call him Maurice. We're going to keep doing that this morning, I guess, folks. I don't know why, but we're just going to keep going with Maurice. (17:57) Now, Ballard placed a handgun on the store counter, and officers later stopped a rideshare vehicle that he was riding in with consent to search the vehicle. Officers reportedly found a loaded 9mm handgun, an extended mag, and about almost 52 grams of marijuana and a digital scale. (18:16) Now, police also determined that Ballard is a convicted felon who was on felony probation. He was taken into custody without incident and faces charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during a criminal offense, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. (18:36) So a Fort Walton Beach PD on that specific case right there. But a couple stories for you this morning as we ride this wave through the 7 o'clock hour. Now, coming up in about 7 minutes. Are you ready? (18:52) Oh, I'm so ready. He is so excited. So excited. So ready. First thing he's going to tell us about are his betting habits for the weekend. Yeah, probably. And then we're going to get your daily advice. Ask Uncle Bobby on the way in just a little bit. (19:08) It's the B Team Morning Show on the Classic Rock Station, Rock Station 100.3 KROCK. The B Team Morning Show is on the air this Thursday morning, and it is time for your daily advice. (19:23) That's right. Ask Uncle Bobby brought to you by our friends at Hard Rock Bet. Oh, that's right. Pageantry, tradition, fight songs, college football is back, and Hard Rock Bet is your home for betting a fully loaded week one slate. You've been waiting all summer for real football, and now it's finally here. (19:40) So get in on the action at Hard Rock Bet, Florida's only legal sports book. It's offered by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, must be 21 and over, and physically present in Florida to wager, terms and conditions apply. If you're concerned about your gambling, we'll call or text 1-833-PLAYWISE. All right. (19:55) Well, today your question, Uncle Bobby, comes in from Exhausted. Calendar Vulture. Dear Uncle Bobby, is it okay to pay my friends to leave me alone for a while? Now I feel guilty, but I am overwhelmed and just want some quiet. (20:12) Well, Schuy and Tay, I mean, I'm sorry, Calendar Vulture. Yes, please keep this a little more anonymous, Bobby. Okay, yeah, not only is it okay, it's actually civilized if you think about it. (20:27) Look, look, you're trying to do what every functioning adult dreams of, converting relentless social gravity into a simple practical expense. And that's called budgeting. See, people budget for groceries, rent, car insurance. You're budgeting for silence. Beautiful. (20:43) See, the guilt you feel is your brain still clinging to the fairy tale that friendship is powered by vibes and mutual respect. Wrong. Friendship is powered by access. Your time, your attention, your couch, your emotional labor like a free public utility. (21:04) The minute you put a price tag on access, everybody suddenly discovers a thrilling new hobby called leaving you alone. Look, you got to make it a tiered system, okay? Because not all friends are equally loud. (21:19) See, the low-maintenance friend gets the basic package, right? A small, small payment to not text you memes at 11.47 p.m., okay? Then you got the medium-need friend who gets a premium rate to stop turning every minor inconvenience into a three-hour phone call. (21:35) Now, the high-need friend, you know, the one who treats your life like their personal help desk? That guy. That one gets the executive plan, cash plus a signed agreement to pretend you are on a boat with no signal. (21:53) And do not frame it as rejection, okay? Look, frame it as opportunity. Tell them you are funding their independence. You are investing in their ability to self-soothe. You are basically a venture capitalist for other people getting a grip. (22:10) Look, here's the part nobody says out loud, okay? Paying them is cheaper than the alternative. Because the alternative is you snapping, vanishing, and becoming a mysterious local legend with only communication through auto-replies, okay? (22:25) Pay for quiet now or pay later with your sanity and a scorched-earth reputation. Choose the invoice you can live with. That's all I'm saying. Exhausted calendar vulture. That's how you keep your friends away. (22:42) All right. Hey, if you missed any past episode, you can find it online. Just click on Ask Uncle Bobby online at TheBTeamShow.com. Or if you go to DewBob.com, D-E-W-Bob.com, you can find all the past episodes in your exclusive DewBob merch. (23:00) Because everybody needs something with Bobby's face on it. Yeah, you should. In AI caricature form, right? It's painstakingly drawn, by the way. Oh, painstakingly drawn. No, I did not say that. (23:16) 7.51 is the time. We'll take a break. Dan Diamond has a look at local news coming up next. Four on a Thursday morning. How are you, Emerald Coast? I'm Schuyler Black. He is Bobby Dewrell. We are the B Team Morning Show. (23:32) We appreciate you all dialing in and spending this Thursday with us. 81 outside right now. A high today of about 90 degrees. The B Team Show brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, as well as Okaloosa Gas and Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach. (23:49) Those of you who are Monday night football watchers in the Navarre area, Stripes will be the place to go. They're going to be offering 50-cent wings. All NFL Monday night football season. So, best deal in Navarre. (24:04) Monday night, 50-cent wings at Stripes. Well, Fort Walton Beach Police Department plans to continue using some license plate reader cameras, even as several other law enforcement agencies across northwest Florida have suspended their use. (24:19) Now, the state directive requires that cameras located on state road rights-of-way be removed, but it does not prohibit license plate readers mounted on patrol vehicles or installed on city and county property. And Fort Walton Beach Police Chief Beige says the technology remains an important tool for solving crimes, locating stolen vehicles, missing people, and suspects. (24:43) Now, while supporters emphasize its law enforcement benefits, privacy advocates are concerned that the technology can track people's movements, even when they are not suspected of wrongdoing. Meanwhile, agencies in Escambia and Santa Rosa County, along with police departments in Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, have paused their programs while awaiting further guidance and possible statewide regulations. (25:05) So, Fort Walton Beach will continue the usage of some of their cameras until additional guidance from Tallahassee is revealed. Now, there was a man arrested in Destin for, well, knocking over a flock license plate reader camera at the intersection of Airport Road and Main Street in Destin back on August 16th. (25:31) The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office said the individual faces a felony criminal mischief charge and was booked into the Okaloosa County Jail. A second person suspected of being involved has a warrant pending, while another damaged flock camera near the Walton County line remains under investigation. (25:48) Now, although the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deactivated all of its flock cameras on September 1, officials emphasize that destroying privately owned equipment is still a crime and that the deactivation does not affect ongoing criminal investigations. (26:05) Sheriff Air Caden said people have the right to oppose the technology but cannot damage or destroy the property. So, a couple flock camera related stories here locally this morning. (26:20) All right, in just a little bit, we're going to talk about the City of Mariester getting ready to hold a public hearing on their 2027 fiscal year budget. And we'll get more details on what Mariester is proposing for the next 12 months. (26:37) Our neighbors to the west. Heart and never. 100.3 KROCK. KROCK, the classic rock station. It's the B Team Morning Show. On the air, brought to you by Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, as well as Okaloosa Gas and Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach. (26:57) Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell. Don't forget, tomorrow morning, we'll be live on location from the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce First Friday Coffee Monthly Event. We'll be out there starting at around the 6 o'clock hour, broadcasting live, chatting with local movers and shakers, business owners, chamber members, nonprofits, and more. (27:17) Talking about all the good things happening in our community and putting together the plan for the next month around town. There's a lot happening, Bobby. There's a lot going on right now. Lots of local events coming up. Of course, high school football. (27:32) We're in the midst of that now. But the 25th anniversary bell ringing for the New York City Firefighters being held by the Fort Walton Beach Fire Department next Friday. You've got a motorcycle poker run up in Niceville on the 19th with the American Legion Post 221. (27:49) KROQtoberfest is going to be at the Golfarium. There's a Science Center Science Conference coming up on the 22nd as well. Sox has a fundraiser coming up in September. Tyrus, the comedian on Fox News, is going to be at Mattie Kelly Arts Center in September as well. (28:09) We've got so many events posted for you online at our website. Just go to thebteamshow.com. That's where it all is? So Tuesday night, Bobby, if you are a Mary Esther City resident, the City Council in Mary Esther will hold its first public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 27 budget at 6 p.m. during its regular meeting at the Mary Esther City Hall. (28:34) Now the Council will review the tentative budget and property tax rate, which is proposed to remain at 5.0261 mills, which is the same rate that's been levied since 2020. The $12.57 million capital improvement plan focuses heavily on infrastructure, including replacing water lines, repairing sewer systems, repaving roads, and improving curbs in the Azalea neighborhood, as well as engineering work for the first phase of the Highway 98 water main replacement project. (29:07) Now was it blocked at a 3% increase? Oh, in Mary Esther? No, not that city. I wonder how much their budget increased year over year. I don't know. I don't know. We should dig into that, shouldn't we? It'd be interesting. I don't know. We should dig into that, shouldn't we? (29:22) It'd be interesting. Interesting thought. Now residents are encouraged to attend the first public hearing on Tuesday night and provide feedback with the final budget and millage rate scheduled for consideration at a second public hearing on Monday, September 21st. (29:40) Now in the city of Fort Walton Beach, City Council will be meeting in a special meeting Wednesday night at 5.01 p.m. Council Chambers at City Hall to discuss millage rate in the city of Fort Walton Beach. Right now millage is at 4.32 mills, which has been... (29:59) Half a decade of the rollback rate here in Fort Walton, so the council will either decide to increase the millage rate for the first time in a half decade or maintain it or fall to the rollback rate again. Yeah. So, there you have it. (30:17) Always something. Always something. That's right. It's 8.30. We'll take a break and look at your forecast is coming up. On the way, The Who and Brian Adams on 100.3 KROCK. Nazareth, hair of the dog. It's 100.3 KROCK. (30:33) The B Team Morning Show is on the air. 8.44 is the time. A little story for you from, well, President Trump. He appears to be having a little fun trolling Iran, floating the idea of renaming the Strait of Hormuz after himself. (30:49) Now that he says the U.S. has control of the critical waterway. Now, yesterday on Truth Social, Trump posted that now that we have it under USA control, should we change the name of the Hormuz Strait to Trump Strait? (31:06) Then he added, like America itself, it would be hotter than ever before. Now the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important oil shipping routes and has been a major flashpoint in the war with Iran, with disruptions there helping drive up oil and gas prices. (31:23) Also, Trump renamed, obviously, the Gulf to the Gulf of America and last week signed an executive order to change Lake Ontario to Lake America. For now, though, there's no official move to create Trump Strait. Yeah, I just, you know, I want to point out the ludicrousness of the fact that some of you out there want to scream about him changing the names of these bodies of water because that's how they've always been. (31:49) But yet you think a man wakes up and decides he's a woman. That's okay. Right. Think about that. We take the Indian off of the Lando Lakes container, take Aunt Jemima and change it to Pearl Milling Company. (32:05) Crazy man. All right, three minutes and we're back. Brian Adams, Lonely Nights, it's the BT Morning Show on the classic rock station 100.3 KROCK. Just about time for us to go change our costume and put on the encore. (32:22) That's right. The BT Morning Show wrapping up the official show, but the encore hour is coming up.
