National Shapewear Day & the Great Guinness Gamble: Why We're All Just Confident Sausage Casings Hoping Nobody Asks Us to Sit Too Fast

Description

We dragged national holidays through the mud—shapewear as existential crisis, s'mores as controlled arson, lazy day as civil disobedience—then pivoted to AI 911 operators in New Orleans (spoiler: Cajun accents are gonna be a problem) and a machete‑vs‑hatchet showdown in a Publix parking lot, because nothing says "Monday morning" like weaponized grocery runs.

Show Notes

Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell kicked off Monday morning on 100.3 KROCK with the kind of enthusiasm you'd expect from two guys who'd rather be anywhere else — which is to say, the perfect vibe for Fort Walton Beach's classic rock soundtrack. After surviving a spotty rain shower that couldn't decide whether it wanted to commit or not, the boys dove headfirst into the National Day Calendar's finest offerings: National Shapewear Day (because nothing says self-love like vacuum-sealing your dignity), National S'mores Day (sticky chaos masquerading as tradition), National Spoil Your Dog Day (negotiating with management who can't pay rent), and National Lazy Day (civil disobedience in sweatpants). School starts back tomorrow, so drivers — brace yourselves for school zones, speed cameras, and the return of chaos on wheels.

Schuyler gave a shout-out to the Star Stripes and Second Chances benefit brunch for PAWS at the Alice in Destin, where he scored a bottle of McKenna 10 and some boutique bourbon called Frank August in a blind bottle pull — both apparently world-class whiskeys that now live rent-free in his liquor cabinet. Meanwhile, local news rolled in hot: an Okaloosa County man was killed Saturday morning after opening fire on deputies serving a warrant near Richburg School in Crestview, and a gnarly crash in Santa Rosa County left two people ejected from a Toyota Corolla that hit a utility pole and a tree. The boys also reminded everyone about the Coastal Weddings Expo coming August 23rd at the Destin Fort Walton Beach Convention Center — perfect for anyone who enjoys spending money they don't have on flowers and DJs. Our friends at Stripes Pub & Grill, Okaloosa Gas, and OutKast Sushi keep this whole operation afloat, and we're grateful.

Uncle Bobby dispensed wisdom to the Stapler Blooded Sleepwalker, who felt guilty about sneaking naps at work — Bobby's advice? Take that nap like it's a sacred right, become a covert sleep activist, and if they catch you, sit up slowly like a prophet returning from the mountain. Elsewhere, New Orleans became the first major U.S. city to let AI answer 911 calls, which seems like a fantastic idea in a city where nobody can understand anyone anyway. A machete-versus-hatchet showdown went down in a Publix parking lot in Panama City (Bay County pride, y'all), and scientists are trying to recreate a 162-year-old Guinness recipe from a bottle found in a shipwreck — and yes, someone's willing to drink it. The Fort Walton Beach City Council meets tomorrow night, and dispatcher pay is on the agenda — timely, since the city's hiring dispatchers for $18.90 an hour, a whole five cents more than Whataburger.

Thursday morning, the B Team broadcasts live from the Florida Place Food Trucks downtown for the Fort Walton Beach Coffee Club — potentially with video this time, so you can finally see how ugly we really are. High school football kicks off this week, with Choctaw on 94.3 FTW and Niceville on 103.7 The Ticket, and Crestview head coach Thomas Grant joins the show Friday to talk Bulldogs. Comedy fans, mark your calendars: Claiborne Cox headlines La Sala Event Center in Navarre on August 29th, and the Niceville American Legion is hosting a motorcycle poker run September 19th. If you missed anything, hit up thebteamshow.com for show notes, Ask Uncle Bobby archives, and exclusive Do Bob merch at dewbob.com. Stay safe out there, Emerald Coast — and remember, never settle for the ordinary.

(00:01) Here's today's B Team Redux. It's 79 degrees in South Okaloosa County this morning. We've seen some rainfall. We're going to see a high today. Climbing up towards about 91 this afternoon. That full forecast coming up in just a little while. (00:16) Good morning, everybody. How are you? Schuyler Black, Bobby Dewrell, the B Team Morning Show back on the air after the weekend. We are rocking and rolling. Speaking of Steely Dan's My Old School, just about time for school to go back. (00:32) Yeah, tomorrow. So, drivers, heads up. Get used to those school zone speed cameras being flipped back on. That's right, because we go back to school on a Tuesday now. Yeah. Is that when the week starts? (00:48) Apparently. Are they doing four-day school weeks, kind of like college up in Niceville does four-day school weeks? Yeah, who knows? All right. Well, good morning. I'm Schuyler Black. He's Bobby Dewrell. We are the B Team Morning Show. Each day brought to you by Stripes Pub & Grill in Novar, Okaloosa Gas, and Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach. (01:07) And the first thing that we want to talk about this morning, this lovely Monday morning, is the fact that it's National Shapewear Day. Oh, yeah, because, you know, nothing says self-love like vacuum sealing your dignity before breakfast and calling it a lifestyle. That's a TikTok trend these days. (01:23) National Shapewear Day is that sacred little calendar square where we all pretend nylon and optimism can negotiate with gravity. See, you squeeze in, you smooth out, you walk into the world like a confident sausage casing, hoping nobody asks you to sit too fast or breathe too deep. (01:40) You know, it's not about vanity. It's about ambition. Specifically, the ambition to look like you sleep, hydrate, and don't know what drive-thru means. But, you know, consider it a modern holiday tradition, right? A brief, uncomfortable truce between who you are and who your outfit thinks you should be. (01:58) The threads on that same line are being tested. It's National Shapewear Day. What did you wear to make yourself look good? You know, just me. Okay. He doesn't have to do anything special. That's right. It's all natural. (02:14) All right. It's the B Team Morning Show with The Clash and Alice Cooper coming up in just a bit. Right now, Journey's open arms. The B Team Morning Show on 100.3 KROCK. So many radio stations have surrendered their morning shows. (02:30) That's right. The B Team still keeps on truckin'. We are here. That's right. 624 is the time this Monday morning. I'm Schuyler Black. He is Bobby Durrell. B Team show on the air. Brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, as well as Okaloosa Gas and OutKast Sushi in Miramar Beach. (02:51) And this morning on the National Day Calendar, we've got to talk about the official breakfast of champions. Move over, Wheaties. We're talking about National S'mores Day. That's right, because nothing says civilization like setting your dessert on fire and calling it that sticky Wreck-It tradition. (03:09) Setting your dessert on fire. That's exactly what it is. It is. Literally. National S'mores Day is that blessed little speed bump on the calendar where grown adults pretend a melted marshmallow between two crackers is tradition and not just sugar with a campfire hobby. (03:25) See, you take chocolate, you add heat, you introduce structural failure, and, well, then you wear the evidence on your hand like a merit badge for questionable decisions. You know, it's wholesome the same way a bonfire is wholesome. (03:40) It's warm, nostalgic, and one bad move away from somebody yelling your full legal name. So, yeah, it's absurd. By design. But, hey, we're going to treat it like the sacred American ritual it is. Sticky, smoky, and just responsible enough to happen again next year. (03:59) That's right. That's right. It's National S'mores Day. Well, hey, don't miss the B Team live on location on Thursday morning, a public event downtown at the Florida Place Food Trucks. It's the downtown Fort Walton Beach Coffee Club. (04:15) That's right. That's right. Hey, and potentially live streaming. That's right. We might. Out on the new Emerald Coast Connected stream. That's right. We might have some video and audio. That's right. To sync up with our radio broadcast. To see how ugly we are. Well, there's a reason. (04:30) There's a reason we are on radio, Bob. But, it's going to be a great event. It's coming up this Thursday morning. And, of course, we'll be out there broadcasting live on location. Chatting with all the movers and shakers around Fort Walton Beach that make this community tick. (04:45) So, we hope you can join us out there on Thursday morning at the Florida Place Food Trucks. Right down there. Downtown Fort Walton Beach for the Coffee Club. Alright. We're going to take a little break. Because we've been here a half an hour this week. (05:01) And, well, we deserve one. That's right. Getting tuckered out already. This isn't a good start, Bobby. On the way, Bachman-Trenner Overdrive. The police and the Scorpions. All due up at the next set. Plus, a look at local news in the second half hour. (05:17) Choctahatchee Bay. Right now, it's 79 degrees here in South Okaloosa County. Not much of a breeze out there right now at all. It's calm. We'll see a high today of 91 degrees. Well, good morning, everybody. How you doing? I'm Schuyler Black. He is Bobby Dewrell. (05:32) We are the B Team Morning Show. Brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre. As well as Okaloosa Gas and Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach. And, as we continue to trek through this 6 o'clock hour, it's time for the next national holiday. (05:48) Bobby, this one sounds like something my wife will do. National Spoil Your Dog Day. That's right, because nothing says functioning adult like buying a third treat bag while your own dinner is cereal. I'll tell you about that brunch for paws that we went to yesterday. (06:05) Oh, look. National Spoil Your Dog Day is the annual reminder that you'll skip your own dentist appointment, but you'll finance a schnauzer's emotional journey with artisanal treats in a bed that has better lumbar support than your mattress. You know, the premise is simple. You take the animal that already runs your house and hand it more power, more stacks, more evidence that consequences are for other species. (06:25) You know, it's absurd, but it's also a revealing little personality test. How quick a grown adult will fold the moment a creature with no job and no taxes tilts its head like it's considering your parole. So, go ahead. Spoil your dog. (06:40) Just understand, you're not celebrating a pet. You're negotiating with management. Hey, speaking of spoiling your dog, yesterday, Taylor and I went to the Star Stripes and Second Chances benefit brunch for paws yesterday. And how many animals did you come back with? (06:56) We did not come back with any animals. Riley came home with toys, of course. But it was a really impressive event. That was the first time I've been out to the Alice, the new venue there in Destin on the Bay. Beautiful venue. Food was fantastic. (07:11) The caterer did a great job. The Bloody Mary Bar, the Mimosa Bar was great. They had live music, all sorts of raffles and gift baskets, salad auction items. And, of course, I was excited because they had this blind pick-and-pull wine or liquor bottle deal where you'd buy a ticket for $30. (07:34) You randomly select out of the jar the number that matches with the bag that has a bottle in it. And I scored, Bobby. Yeah, you did. I scored. Got myself a bottle of McKenna 10, and I didn't realize that McKenna 10 was an allocated brand now. (07:52) Yeah, it's actually one of my favorite bourbons. And the other one I got was, are you not familiar with the Frank August? I hadn't really heard of it before. It's a little boutique or batch distiller. It is. (08:07) And they only do single barrels. It was named the world's best bourbon and won the bourbon trophy at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in September of last year, earning an impressive 98 points and a gold outstanding medal in blind tasting. (08:22) Now, McKenna 10 is one of only two bourbons that's ever won best whiskey in the world at the San Francisco World Spirits Fair. Oh, really? That's a really rare feat. Yeah. Back in, I think it was like 2018, it won best whiskey in the world, McKenna 10. (08:41) It was funny. At the time, it was retailing for like 20 bucks a bottle. But it won that. Parker Beam, that was his third mash bill that he ever came up with. It's the one that he left behind. Never tasted it to maturity. (08:57) But funny enough, 96 is the only other time that a bourbon won best whiskey in the world. And it's usually because of the constraints around bourbon, how it has to be made. (09:12) It doesn't get to experiment like a lot of the other brands. So it's really hard for bourbon to beat out the complexity of like a scotch or an Irish whiskey or some of those things. Sorry, scotch sucks. But anyway, that being said, in 96, what won was Parker's Reserve, also by Parker Beam. (09:32) Really? Only twice has a bourbon won best whiskey in the world. And they were both from the same master distiller. Yeah. Well, I'm excited to crack them open and enjoy them. But just wanted to give a shout out to Tracy and Molly and all the board members over there at PAWS. (09:49) I mean, it was a really, really impressive event. And looking forward to them doing something like that again next year. So tons of fun. I enjoyed it. Thank you for the invite. One final national holiday to get to in just a little bit. Plus, we'll check local news in the next 10 minutes as well. Right now, Brian Adams, and this time, it's the B Team Morning Show on 100.3 KROCK. Yeah. Now, if you're over on Eglin, it's probably sunny over there. (10:17) Hey, you know, driving in this morning, that's how it was. You could see where it had rained in Chalamar and along Eglin. And then about the middle of racetrack, bottom was falling out. But then when I came out the other side, it was not raining again. Well, that's when I left my house. There was just a very, not even drizzle. It was more just a few sprinkles, right? And by the time I got to Beal, it was still sprinkling. And then once I got north of Memorial, and then the bottom fell out. Yeah. No, it was racetrack. It was basically kind of between Mooney and or Walter Martin. Okay. Between those two, it was like the bottom was falling out. (10:59) Then it wasn't. Right. I was like, okay, well, there you go. Well, looking at the radar right now, it is very spotty showers and thunderstorms across the Panhandle. So this little shower that we're seeing here on the west side of Fort Walton Beach, not going to last too long, but we are expecting to see some on and off precip today. Yeah. (11:19) All right. Well, on the National Day calendar this morning, we have one final one to talk about, Mr. Durrell. It's National Lazy Day. Yeah. When nothing gets a ribbon and somehow the rest of us still have to go to work to pay for it. Yeah. Oh, I thought that was welfare. (11:37) Well, anyway, Democrats heard it was a great idea. National Lazy Day is that sacred little speed bump on the calendar where we all agree out loud that productivity is mostly a scam and we keep paying into it like it's a retirement plan. See, it's not about self-care. It's about civil disobedience and sweatpants. You know, no errands, no hustle, no pretending your inbox is a moral obligation. The rules are simple. Cancel something, sit down like you mean it, and let the world keep spinning without your heroic involvement. See, and if you feel guilty, well, congratulations. You've just identified the exact problem this holiday was invented to aggravate. National Lazy Day. All right. That's one way to start a work week, I guess. All right. (12:24) There's your four national holidays for Monday, August 10th. We are the B Team Morning Show, Schuyler Black and Bobby Durrell. We're going to take a quick break, pay a couple bills, coming back with some local news and happenings from the last weekend in the seven o'clock hour. Plus, Ask Uncle Bobby next hour as well, so stay with us. This is 100.3 KROCK. (12:43) There's the doobies. A little Chalk to Hatchie Bay song this morning, right? That's right. Blackwater. Good morning. How you doing? It's the B Team Morning Show. Schuyler Black and Bobby Durrell, brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pub and Grilla Navarre, Okaloosa Gas at Outkast Sushi and Miramar Beach. Our shower was short-lived, Bobby. (13:05) Yep. The second one of the morning, at least. We're going to see a sporadic intermittent showers and thunderstorms across the panhandle today. We'll check your forecast in just a little bit. But early Saturday morning, an Okaloosa County man was killed when deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant. Channel 3 WEAR reports that Sheriff Eric Hayden said the man opened fire first and his deputies actually never shot back. Instead, they used SWAT tactics. Now, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident. It was in the interest of the public at large, Sheriff Hayden said. Now, Saturday morning, just before 5.30, deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office went out to serve a search warrant, an arrest warrant, and a risk protective order on a 29-year-old man. Now, the sheriff says a risk protection order is something that is for the benefit of the safety and well-being of the community. It's when we have someone that may be showing violent tendencies, and this individual, we've had some issues with him in the area. Now, Sheriff Eric Hayden said everything erupted when deputies attempted to serve the warrants. They said, we knew that this individual was armed and showed potential displays of some concerning behavior. When we went to try and do that, this individual decided to take up arms, and he came out and shot multiple times. Now, the nearby school, SWAT vehicles, and homes in the neighborhood were struck by bullets, and Hayden said that none of the deputies actually shot back. He said, our SWAT assets took multiple rounds. In fact, we've got some other places that were hit to include the school here by his rounds. Our SWAT team, our SRT team, they all took action and used our SWAT resources to disable him. Now, a massive hole is left in the front of his home. (14:57) Now, life-saving measures were given to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, and Sheriff Eric Hayden said the man lived right next to the Richburg School in Crestview. So, anyway, if you saw all the ruckus up there this weekend, if you live up there, or if you were, you know, we're monitoring the situation on social media, that's the story coming from that situation up in Crestview this last weekend. So, that was one of several stories that we're going to get to here this morning, and coming up later on in the hour, we're going to check with Uncle Bobby, get your daily advice, coming up in about 40 minutes as well. Bobby, we are on the cusp of the start of high school football. That's right. Choctaw carried live, play-by-play, all season long on 94.3 FTW, and Niceville, play-by-play, live all season on 103.7 the ticket, but we've also got all the high school schedules from across the county and into portions of South Santa Rosa as well. You can find local high school football schedules on the events tab at thebteamshow.com, and coming up this Friday morning, we're going to have Crestview High School football coach Thomas Grant, and to talk about the Bulldogs' upcoming season. So, we've got lots to get to when it comes to high school football. It's getting ready to kick off here this next week, but looking forward to having the Crestview head coach in studio with us later on in the week. (16:35) All right, all sorts of good stuff to come your way. As I mentioned, more local news. We're going to talk about your daily advice with Uncle Bobby, and yeah, we'll keep spinning the tunes in the meantime as well. Here's the Sticks and Blue Collar Man of the classic rock station 100.3 KROCK. (16:53) The Marshall Tucker Band heard it in a love song. It's 7.23 on a Monday morning. We've got sunshine again here in Fort Walton Beach, and a high today climbing up to about 91 this afternoon. Right now, it's 79 here in South Okaloosa County. I'm Schuyler Blackie as Bobby Dewrell. This is the B Team Morning Show brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, as well as Okaloosa Gas and Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach. A quick story out of Santa Rosa County this morning. A 27-year-old man and 32-year-old woman from Pace suffered critical injuries on Saturday after being ejected from a car that lost control, then struck a utility pole and hit a tree in Santa Rosa County. Yeah, bing, bang, bong. Troopers say the crash happened around 2.15 in the morning near East Spencer Field Road and North Spencer Field Road. A Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on East Spencer Field Road, approaching the intersection when the car lost control and collided with a utility pole and a tree. Now, both the driver and passenger were ejected and taken to a local hospital with critical injuries, and that investigation is still ongoing. (18:09) No other details have been released to this point. But yeah, that's a hell of a wreck. Hell of a wreck. You hit a power pole, then hit a tree. Hey, the Destin Fort Walton Beach Convention Center is excited to host the Coastal Weddings Expo coming up on Sunday, August 23rd, less than two weeks from now, from one until four. So if you or your significant other are going to be getting married, or if you're the parent of a bride or groom-to-be, it's a great opportunity to meet a lot of vendors from a lot of different categories in one spot. Florists, caterers, venues, you know, bride and tuck shops, DJs, what have you. It's all going to be in one spot at the Destin Fort Walton Beach Convention Center, Saturday, August 23rd, from one until four p.m. (19:01) If you go to our website, thebteamshow.com, just click on that events tab. We've got the links so you can go buy your tickets for that event. But Lauren with Coastal Weddings reached out, and she's going to try to come in and join us one morning next week to talk about their event. So we've got that on the horizon coming up. All right. Yeah, we've got to get Bobby in rare form here, get him ready for Uncle Bobby in about 20 minutes. Yeah. Yeah. Let's see. (19:32) Got that coming up. I'm tired this morning. I can tell. You're just surviving at this point. Barely. Barely. I need a nap. Not functioning at a very high level, but you are functioning. I'm here. Yeah. That's kind of like what we call zombies, you know, functioning. (19:51) Not very highly, but they're functioning. So if you've ever met a zombie, I guess, that's kind of what I'm dealing with this morning. On the way, ZZ Top, music from the cars, Foghat, and of course, about 20 minutes away from your daily advice, Ask Uncle Bobby. All on the way on the classic rock station, 100.3 KROCK. (20:12) There's Foghat, Phil for the city, on the classic rock station, 100.3 KROCK. Good morning everybody, how you doing? I'm Schuyler Black, he is Bobby Dewrell, brought to you by Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, as well as Okaloosa Gas, and Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach. (20:28) Bobby, you were hyped about a month ago, hoping that we could ditch daylight savings time this year. Yep. Not so fast, my friend. I know. For now, Americans will still turn their clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 1st, unless Congress will act before then. Technically, it's the Senate. Yeah, true. President Trump is pushing lawmakers to pass the Sunshine Protection Act, saying people are sick and tired of having to change their clocks twice a year. That's true. (20:56) And urging Congress to leave it as it is now, and never change it again. Now, the House has already passed the bill. Overwhelmingly. Yep. Like three to one. But the Senate doesn't return from recess until the 14th of September. And it's still unclear whether there are enough votes to get it passed. So unless Congress moves quickly, which they never seem to, you'll still get that extra hour of sleep on November 1, but you'll also be dealing with those earlier winter sunsets. (21:31) That's right. Those suck. Yes, they do. All right. Coming up in five minutes, the brightest moment of everybody's day. Your advice from Uncle Bobby on the way, right here on the BT Morning Show with 100.3 KROCK. Stay with us. Speaking of shooting the breeze, well, it's kind of what we're getting ready to do. It's 7.48 here on the BT Morning Show on 100.3 KROCK. And yep, offering the breeze this morning is none other than Uncle Bobby. It's time for your daily advice. That's right. Ask Uncle Bobby. All brought to you by Hard Rock Bet. (22:12) Well, the 3-3-0 fights go down this Saturday, and you can step into the cage all night long on Hard Rock Bet. Whether you're stacking underdogs for a big payday, or you just like betting on knockouts, Hard Rock Bet is Florida's only legal way to bet MMA. It's offered by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. You must be over 21 and physically present in Florida to wager. Terms and conditions apply. Concerned about your gambling? Well, call or text 1-833-PLAYWISE. (22:36) Very good. All right. Well, today, Uncle Bobby, your question comes in from the Stapler Blooded Sleepwalker. That's a mouthful. Stapler Blooded Sleepwalker says, Dear Uncle Bobby, I have been so exhausted that sometimes I sneak a nap during work hours, but I feel guilty, and I'm terrified of getting caught and reprimanded. What should I do? Did you write this? Guilty? Oh, that's adorable. I tell you what. Look, that's an emotion they installed in you, so you'll apologize for having a spine in a circulatory system, okay? (23:16) You're not sneaking a nap. You're repossessing your own brain for 15 minutes because the company's been leasing it like a rental car that they keep returning with the check engine light on. Okay? Not fair getting caught. That's natural. That's natural. That's just your body reminding you that modern work is a surveillance hobby wearing a blazer. (23:34) You know, every office is one security camera away from becoming a nature documentary where the exhausted employee crawls up behind a filing cabinet and the manager approaches slowly, whispering about synergy. Look, here's the truth they don't want printed on the motivational posters. If you're so tired, you're involuntarily nodding off. Well, that means the organization already stole that energy from you. You're just collecting interest. A nap at work is not theft. (24:03) It's a hostile audit. It's you saying with your eyes closed, you don't get my last drop for free. And look, since you're worried about being reprimanded, well, good. You know, that means you understand the stakes, not your job, your dignity, your nervous system, your remaining years on earth. See, you take that nap like it's a sacred right. You don't skulk. You don't tremble. (24:31) You become a covert sleep activist, right? A strategic unconscious operator. The kind of person who can shut down a whole department by yawning at the right time. So you start small, a micro nap, then a bolder nap, then an office culture shift. You know, soon enough, one person's accidental doze becomes a quiet rebellion. And if they catch you, you don't panic. You sit up slowly like a prophet returning from the mountain and you let them feel how insane it is to punish a human for recharging the equipment they refuse to maintain. (25:10) And that's your advice this morning. Stapler blooded sleepwalker. Remember, if you missed any of ask uncle Bobby's advice last week, you can find it all online at The B Team show.com or you can find the advice and your exclusive do Bob merch at do bob.com. D E W bob.com. (25:33) That's right. That's where it all is. Ask uncle Bobby every weekday morning brought to you by hard rock bet. It's seven 52. This is The B Team morning show. Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell with a look at news neck. Get down and party. That's right. 804 is the time. Good morning, everybody. It's Monday, August 10th. Kids go back to school tomorrow. So drivers out there be aware you're going to see those school buses back out making stops. You're going to see kiddos on the streets and sidewalks and the speed cameras in Fort Walton and Niceville will be turned back on. So just a heads up. Those of you driving around the area tomorrow, you're going to see extra traffic on the roadways. If you need to change your route, if you need to give yourself some extra time to get through some of those school zones without driving like a crazy maniac, then then please do so. But yeah, expect everybody to try to get back into the swing of things and into a back to school routine here. And just as safe and smart driving habits should be used anytime, but especially as we get back to school. Well, over the weekend, this is a feel good story about 100 volunteer divers actually gathered at the Okaloosa Island fishing pier. Yeah, I saw that for a cleanup effort. Now, these divers removed almost 160 pounds of trash and debris from the water in the surrounding area. The event brought together divers and community volunteers who worked to improve the marine environment and remove items that could pose as hazards to wildlife and to swimmers. And the cleanup highlighted the importance of community involvement in protecting local waterways and keeping the area's beaches and waters clean. So if you were out there helping out and volunteering this weekend, thank you so much for doing so. (27:34) Well, could you drink a 162 year old Guinness beer? Uh, probably. Really? That's old. All right. Well, a diver exploring a shipwreck off the coast of England made an incredible discovery. An intact bottle of Guinness from 1864. Now, scientists are studying the bottle to see if they can recreate the 162 year old recipe using the original yeast and DNA. What's even crazier is they think the beer still might be drinkable. The diver says the bottle was found upside down, which may have created a seal that kept seawater out. And they said there's a possibility it's still drinkable. The company behind Guinness is now working with the divers to learn more about the historic find. And the diver says if the beer is safe to drink, well, then he's willing to give it a taste. So I'll tell you what, I'm going to let that be his gig. I'll enjoy it if he doesn't get sick from it. But you know, 162 year old beer, got a feeling it might be a little skunky. It could be. Just a hunch. Just a hunch. (28:50) Hey, Comedy Show is coming to La Sala Event Center in Navarre on Saturday, August 29th. (30:37) This is Jet on the B Team Morning Show with the classic rock station. We are 100.3 KROCK. It's a B Team Morning Show. Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell brought to you by Stripes Pub and Grill in Navarre, as well as Okaloosa Gas and Outcast Sushi in Miramar Beach. By the way, I mentioned it earlier, but I want to say thank you so much for the invite yesterday, Lynn Fair of MidSouth Bank, and so much gratitude for the event. And congratulations to Paz, Tracy, and Molly and all the folks that work out there, the volunteers, the board members. (31:18) I mean, it's just a beautiful event, the Star Stripes and Second Chances brunch event at the Alice and Destin yesterday. So can't thank you all enough for all your work there. It was awesome. Yeah, and I really appreciate you not inviting me. Yeah, you missed out, Bobby. But the event was sold out. So your feelings are hurt now? (31:41) Nope. Just know where I stand. Okay, well, at least you know. You're not wondering anymore, right? It's true. It's worse to be thought that people care to find out they don't. So it's just better to know up front. (31:56) Yeah, now you're going to make Lynn feel awful. I can't make her feel anything. It was her choices. She's going to be texting me in about three minutes. Tell him to stop. (32:12) What am I doing? You didn't get invited? I'm acknowledging the fact that I didn't get invited. That's fine. It's okay. You don't have to like me. I'm okay with that. Okay, we're going to switch gears. New Orleans, get this, Bobby, has become the first major U.S. city to let AI answer 911 phone calls. (32:31) Oh, nothing wrong with that. This system is designed to handle repeat or lower priority calls when human dispatchers are tied up while sending the most urgent emergencies to real operators. Well, let's think about it this way. Listen, if AI can handle a bunch of Cajuns calling in, it can handle the rest of the world, right? (32:53) God! Oh man, I didn't even think about that. Why not? Why not put it in the one place where nobody can understand what the hell anyone's saying? Yeah, that's not going to go bad at all. (33:11) I'm sorry, Mr. Thomas. I don't know what whoop-da-doss is. Now, city officials insist that AI isn't replacing people. It's just helping manage more than a thousand emergency calls a day. Not everyone is buying it, though. One former 911 dispatcher said it's the worst idea you could possibly think of, warning that AI can't pick up on panic, confusion, speech problems, heavy accents, like you mentioned, or subtle clues that can reveal someone is in danger. (33:43) Who has an accent in New Orleans? Exactly. Supporters say that it can speed up response times, but critics worry that in an emergency, missing those human cues could cost lives. That's right. Sasquatch Bear, Thibodeaux, Boudreaux, they're all screwed. (34:03) Metairie, yeah. Hey, we gonna need some help down here on the Holla, Gator on the God, Boudreaux. I'm sorry. For English, press one. (34:18) The Fort Walton Beach City Council. I wonder if they have, for three, for Cajun, press three. First thing it says, who dat? Go Tigers! The Fort Walton Beach City Council is actually going to be meeting tomorrow night. It has two meetings scheduled for Tuesday, 4 p.m. Budget Workshop and 6 o'clock regular City Council meeting. And speaking of dispatchers, I know that dispatcher pay will be something probably discussed at the meeting tomorrow night, and I saw that the City of Fort Walton is looking to hire dispatchers right now for $18.90 an hour or something. (35:00) Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a whole five cents more than Whataburger. Exactly, exactly. It's just damn shame. And there's nothing better than having a dispatcher ask you at the end, thank you for calling 911, would you like fries with that? (35:18) Yeah. Would you like to supersize this order? And, okay, we've got an officer en route to you right now, would you like an apple pie to go with that? Exactly. Yeah, he's just got one more stop to get to. (35:34) That's right. He's on his way. He's got to make this coffee delivery work. That's right. All right, a quick break and more nonstop classic rock is coming up. On the way, The Who, Stevie Ray Vaughan, ELO, and more on the B Team Mordechai with 100.3 KROCK. (35:51) Talked about earlier when it comes to the AI voices on dispatcher calls in New Orleans, that Steve Dudley and Scotty Wolf have been contracted to offer up their voice for the AI service. Yeah, yeah, I believe that. (36:08) Well, we've got a story out of Panama City that hit the kickers this last weekend, and you may have heard about it, but in a face-off straight out of the news team rumble scene, an anchorman, a machete-carrying man, faced off against a hatchet-wielding opponent in a public's parking lot in Panama City. (36:26) Now, as detailed in a criminal complaint, cops responded last Tuesday to the Panama City grocery store and found the duo, each suffering from lacerations on their hands. Investigators say that 52-year-old Everett Kirkbaum was in his car when James Gay, 35, drove up and stopped near him. (36:45) And after a verbal altercation, Gay exited his vehicle and approached Kirkbaum in an aggressive manner. Now, from there, matters escalated quickly. Gay then returned to his ride. Cops charged and retrieved a machete and struck Kirkbaum in the face with the sheathed weapon. (37:03) Now, Kirkbaum told police that he initially brandished a hatchet in an attempt to deter Gay. During the 4.30 afternoon struggle over both weapons, the men each sustained hand injuries. Kirkbaum, police reported, said that Gay struck him in the head, rendering him unconscious. (37:25) So, yeah, they were both arrested and taken to the Bay County Jail. But there you go. We get those crazy stories close to home every once in a while, don't we? Yeah. Boy, it makes me so proud. (37:41) Hey, you were a one-time Bay County resident, right? Yep. All right. B Team Morning Show's on the air. Getting ready for the Encore Hour at 9 o'clock. It's 846. I'm Schuyler Black. He's Bobby Dewrell on the classic rock station, 100.3 KROCK. (38:00) Mah-mah-mah-mah-mah-mah-mah-mah-mah-mah-bell. There you go. Yellow on the Classic Rock Station. 100.3 KROCK. Going to see a high today of 91. The rain has pushed out of here. We're going to see some sporadic, isolated showers and thunderstorms periodically throughout the day. (38:16) So if it does rain, expect it to last about, you know, six and a half minutes and then move on. And the wind's going to be between zero and ten. So it could be completely calm or it could be just a little breeze. That's right. (38:31) Yeah, you know, it's kind of tight. Kind of tight. I'll tell you what, folks. Monday. It's a struggle bus some mornings, but this was not the worst Monday we've ever had by any means. Now, we've still got the B Team Encore Hour coming up here at 9 o'clock where we get to chat about local events. (38:50) Of course, school going back in session tomorrow.
