Which is fitting, because most of us are one overdraft away from celebrating National Bologna End of Peace Day. Restaurants will dress it up with sauce you can't pronounce. (03:16) Grocery stores will slap a sticker on it like it's doing you a favor. And everybody will nod solemnly while their wallet quietly files a missing persons report. So take the day seriously if that's your thing. He gets picked up for some reason because there was some, you know, death experience or whatever. Right. And these Federals come in, they're talking to him, they're wanting to question to him. And he looks and he goes, oh, well, it's the B Team. He has no idea how that's connected to his home town. Right. And so it made me feel it made me feel so great. It's I'm I'm reading it right here, but that's on the Web site. But anyway, dear Uncle Bobby, I feel guilty. I get crushes on fictional characters from shows and books, even though I have a real partner. Is that basically cheating? No, no, it's not. That's not cheating. Look, it's it's it's really the safest form of romance ever invented, if you think about it. You know, like a like a shark tank with a seatbelt and a waiver. See, a fictional crush can't can't can't text you at two a.m. Right. I mean, they can't borrow money. They can't meet your parents and immediately say something that ages you five years. I mean, they're professionally unavailable and that's a feature, not a flaw when you think about it. I mean, let's look, look, look. The guilt you feel is just your conscience being dramatic because it finally found something low risk to hyperventilate about. See, emotional infidelity requires an actual emotional negotiation, right? Fictional characters don't negotiate. So they stand there. They look perfectly saying saying the line your partner would never say because your partner is a human being and and well, sinuses and opinions is what they see. Now, here's where you stop apologizing and start acting like an adult with a plan. So you don't just have a crush, you cultivate it, you turn it into a controlled burn. Right. You write a fan fiction, not not as a hobby, as infrastructure. (22:36) You build a little emotional condo complex in your head and you rent units to whoever you need that week. And the brooding detective, the space captain, the morally complicated vampire with impeccable posture. You know, this is not cheating. This is emotional polymory with with zero collateral damage. OK, then you tell your partner casually that you you've chosen the path of peace, that you'll be taking your romantic chaos out and imaginary people who can't ruin anniversaries. And if they get jealous of a person made of ink and camera angles, well, that's not your problem. That's their imagination finally clocking in for work. So reality is where dishes live. Fantasy is where desire goes to stay house trained. And and while you keep your crushes fictional and you'll save your relationship like a firefighter who decided to burn the right building on purpose. All right. Well, there's your advice. And and then we also at nine to ten, we're going to have our program. We're real excited. We've got Susie Hunt coming. (25:32) Yeah. And she is from she's operations director for the venue at Beach Weekend. Right down there on the sound. And we also have Christine Nelson coming. And she's also or she is the sales event manager for the venue at Beach Weekend. Oh. And then we have someone who lives in the neighborhood who's internationally famous. You may not have heard of Miss Kayla Douglas. She's got Kayla Douglas artistry and she designs custom wedding dresses and puts on shows around the world. Oh, wow. So custom wedding dresses. So we got those with us today. The theme today is about weddings. Well, I was hoping it wasn't about divorce. That was going to seem weird brought to you by your local divorce. It's about the first part. That's right. And so then anyway, so we have several people that downtown that do offer something for weddings. We're going to have Nikki via here today. And Nikki owns artisanal boutique. So they do custom wedding gifts. Yeah. And so she's excited about being here. And then we also have I think Matthew and Morgan might be coming from Thick Cookie Co. Oh, but they do like orders for for weddings. (26:44) Like large orders for weddings or that kind of thing. So, Candace, you are kind of the the person that started this grassroots effort deal that started out with a half a dozen people a few years ago. You envisioned this this social community that would get together, network, market themselves, become friends. And to get it off the ground, you came over to talk to Mr. Tom Tonin. Tell me how this whole thing got going and what's your passion behind it. Well, first, I was sitting around one day with Ashley Sikalsky having coffee over at Ma's Coffee. And we said, what we need is a gathering downtown. We need a way to bring people together for fun. (27:24) So there was a business meeting at that time, but we wanted something really social. So Jim Ma's said, Nope, don't want to do it here. This is OK. And it's funny because everybody laughs about it now. Yeah. So I got up my nerve a couple of months later. Ask him again. He said, no, again. So I came across the street and asked Mr. Tonin, Mr. Tonin, can we have a coffee club here at Shore Food Trucks? He said, why, yes, of course you can. I said, well, good. There's only going to be about 10 people. And that's 10 times 10. Right. And that was almost well, three and a half years ago. Oh, wow. Started up three and a half years ago. Did you ever envision it growing like it has? Oh, no, no, we didn't. We had no idea. First 10 people were 15 and then it was 20. And then all of a sudden I looked around and the tables were full. So no, we had no idea. So at 830 this morning, coffee and conversation begins. And that's just kind of a networking half hour where folks get a mingle and get to talk and meet each other and hand out business cards or just whatever they want to do in making connections. Nonprofits come as well. So we have a lot of variety of people, residents all over downtown. We've also recently been attracting businesses from outside of downtown. So we'll have some here today, too, that are going to have gifts for the raffle and be fun. Yeah. And this event is free and open to the public to attend. It's the monthly downtown Fort Walton Beach Coffee Club event that Miss Candace Tanner actually got this grassroots effort off the ground about three and a half years ago. She said she did this because she just wanted to get her trash picked up. Yeah. That's a far cry. (35:11) But the crowd is filing in. No, we used to, you know, Bobby's not here, my brother. We used to call him Break Even Bob. If you're interested in opening a business and you need a consultant to get you to break even, you call us. He's my number one specialist. We got Break Even Bob and that's what we do. (46:33) We get to break even and we move on to the next one. It's no secret the investment that the neighbors have put into the downtown area the last several years. And I just want to thank you guys for all the investment and renewal downtown over the last several years as I've been in town and even longer for Bobby. But what's your next plans? What do you envision for downtown Fort Walton Beach? What would you like to see? So first off, I want to thank all the other businesses that are finally joining in in this process that we started this campaign with my mom 15, 18 years ago, really trying to revitalize downtown. And really our goal was to kick it off. Let's get in here. Let's update some buildings. Let's get some businesses in here. But that plan does not work until you have other businesses participate. We can't do it all on our own. Individual businesses can't do it. (47:22) But we're finally having the momentum and the success because we have these other businesses joining us. And Candace right here has been instrumental in growing the downtown following. And really, this place is finally getting some synergy. We've got a whole bunch of new businesses that started this year. And that's when we can finally sit back and say, hey, we're finally getting that momentum. And that synergy works for all of us. Now you can come to downtown and go to multiple spots. It's not a destination where there's just the boardroom or just the Beach Weekend coffee shop. You've got a big selection of businesses. And it's been fantastic to see everybody contribute. Well, it's the old saying. And I like to say it. I've quoted it probably three or four times this week. But the rising tide raises all ships. When everybody jumps in, everybody gets something. You give them a place to go and destination to come to. (48:08) And then everybody thrives from it. So it's great to see everyone joining in. And it really does take those initial visionaries to say, you know what, we're going to plow something into this and make it better. It's not easy and it's expensive. But I'll tell you, it's really neat to sit back and look and see where downtown has come over the last 10 years. And I hope all the new businesses that are here, all the best success. And it's not a competition. It's like you said, with the rising tides that we need to bring the masses here. And now that we have enough selection and an array of businesses, I think it's only going to continue to get better from here. Absolutely. All right.
