National Lollipop Day: Why Adults Licking Sugar Sticks Is Somehow a Celebration—Plus Jeep Batteries & Ugly Trucks

Description

We celebrated National Lollipop Day by asking the hard questions—like why adults romanticize sucking on sugar sticks while judging cattle for licking salt blocks—then pivoted to Moonday, Nap Day, and the Ugly Truck Contest, because nothing says "functioning society" quite like worshipping a dead rock in space and crowning vehicular disasters.

Show Notes

Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell kicked off Monday morning on 100.3 KROCK here in Fort Walton Beach, and naturally we had to tackle the pressing issues—like National Lollipop Day, because nothing says "functioning adult" quite like romanticizing a sugar disc on a stick. We make fun of cattle for licking salt blocks, but here we are, humans doing the exact same thing with corn syrup and food dye. Then there's Moon Day, honoring that big dead rock in space that's done more for tides than most of us have done for ourselves. We celebrate by pretending it's a lifestyle choice and texting our exes at 2 a.m. because "the moon made me do it." Bobby's Jeep decided to pee in his Cheerios again—third battery this year—so Ugly Truck Contest Day felt particularly fitting. And finally, Nap Day, the one holiday where your biggest achievement is being unconscious and the only appointment that matters is face-first into a pillow. Recovery, billed with the confidence of a man invoicing insurance.

Weather-wise, we're sitting at 75 degrees with clear skies, but don't get too comfortable—thunderstorms are rolling in this afternoon courtesy of a tropical depression lurking 150 miles south of Apalachicola. It's a sloppy mess right now, but it's expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Bertha later today. We're under a tropical storm watch from Mobile to Apalachicola, so expect breezy, rainy conditions late tonight into tomorrow morning. Hurricane hunters are out there trying to dial it in, but the spaghetti models have this thing landing anywhere from Okaloosa County to Corpus Christi. So, you know, your guess is as good as ours. If you're planning to head offshore fishing, maybe reconsider.

On the local front, the Florida sales tax holiday kicks off today and runs through August 20th—perfect timing to stock up on school supplies, clothing, and other essentials without paying state sales tax. Speaking of school supplies, Executive Air and MidSouth Bank are teaming up with the Emerald Coast Children's Advocacy Center for a back-to-school supply drive this Saturday from 11 to 1 at 106 Perry Avenue. Bring backpacks, notebooks, glue, headphones (apparently those are classroom essentials now), and they'll hook you up with hot dogs. Come grab a wiener, drop off some supplies—sounds wrong, feels right. High school football schedules are also up on our events tab at thebteamshow.com, with kickoff classics around August 14th and regular season games starting the 20th and 21st. We're less than a month away from Friday night lights, folks. And don't forget, Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, Okaloosa Gas, and Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach keep this show rolling every morning.

Bobby dropped some Monday wisdom in Ask Uncle Bobby, courtesy of byTomCat Custom Apparel. The question: How do you maintain a professional network without falling behind on actual work? Uncle Bobby's answer: Work is what you do when nobody important is watching. Networking is the thing that makes people say you work. In the modern economy, being described as effective beats being effective like a tuxedo beats a treadmill. Every coffee meeting is a career-defining hostage negotiation where the ransom is your calendar. Do just enough work to keep your badge active and your email signature credible, then get back out there and shake hands like you're running for office in a country where the only law is lunch. Eventually, your network becomes a human exoskeleton—it carries you, vouches for you, explains you. And at that point, doing work isn't just unnecessary, it's suspicious. It's Monday—you might want to think twice about actually doing that.

(00:00) Here's today's B Team Redux. Thunderstorms late this afternoon into this evening with that tropical depression that's out there in the Gulf. (00:37) We'll talk about that in just a little bit. But that is clearly not the most important thing to open up the show with. Which is why the B Team Morning Show this Monday, July 20th, must talk about National Lollipop Day, Bobby. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. (00:53) Because, you know, nothing says functioning adult like paying money to lick sugar on a stick and call it celebration. You know, it's kind of gross when you just put it that way. I'm just saying. Hey, National Lollipop Day is that special moment on the calendar where grown adults pretend a sugar disc on a stick is a personality trait and, well, call it celebrating. (01:13) See, it's a tribute to sticky fingers, questionable dental decisions, and the kind of optimism you only get from pure corn syrup and food dye. You know, companies will swear it was a wholesome nostalgia, and you'll nod like you don't have a drawer full of receipts proving you're one bad day away from buying candy in bulk. (01:34) But take your little swirly badge of innocence and hold it up to the light and ask yourself what else you're willing to romanticize just because it comes in bright colors. And we make fun of cattle for licking salt blocks, but you're right. (01:51) Humans just lick sugar on a stick. National Lollipop Day. Well, it's the B Team Morning Show. I'm Schuyler Black. He is Bobby Dewrell. Every morning we come your way, Monday through Friday from 6 until 9, followed by the B Team Encore Hour at 9 o'clock until 10. (02:09) But, of course, the B Team Show brought to you in part by Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, Okaloosa Gas, and Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach. And it's Bobby's only day on the show this week. That's right. That's right. (02:24) But we'll probably have some Ask Uncle Bobby still to make it through. Oh, okay. We'll try anyway. You can always count on Uncle Bobby. That's right. The stand-up fellow, that guy. He'll never let you down. Ozzie Mama, I'm coming home. (02:41) It's Monday morning. The B Team Morning Show's on the air. I'm Schuyler Black. He is Bobby Dewrell. Seventy-five degrees right now. Beautiful, clear skies here in Fort Walton Beach. A high today of about 96. It's going to be a hot and humid one. (02:58) Keeping our eye on the Gulf with that tropical depression. About 150 miles south of Apalachicola right now. So, we'll talk more about that in just a little bit. But the second big holiday this morning that we have to talk about, Bobby, has to do with my rear end in Florala, I think. (03:15) That's right. Moonday. No, no, no, no. This is the one about the rock in space. Oh. You know that. John Glenn's moon. Yeah, that one that's done more for tides than Jim Zaks ever did for him. (03:30) Yeah, that's exactly right. You like that? Uh-huh. I do. I doubt he did. Yeah. Moonday is that special little holiday where grown adults look up at a big dead rock and pretend it's a lifestyle choice. See, you celebrate by doing moon math you didn't understand, drinking something silver, and while making solemn promises, you'll start living by the tides like you're a responsible werewolf or something. (03:55) It's part science fair, part group therapy, part excuse to text your ex at 2 a.m. because the moon made you do it. So, keep it cute, keep it weird, and remember, the moon doesn't care about you, which is exactly why people love it. (04:10) Did we have a full moon as last night? Was it last night? We were coming up on one, I know that. God, I was up at 11. Well, part of my problem is I went to bed at 6.30 because I was just zapped from all day Saturday over in Pensacola. But I woke up at 11.30, and then I was basically howling at the moon all the way until I got up at 4. (04:29) So, I don't know. Maybe there is something to this moonday thing, Bobby. Yeah, we'll see. All right. It's 6.26, a quick break. More nonstop classic rock coming up. Look at your marine forecast if you're heading out on the water, especially if you're going out fishing in the Gulf today. (04:46) We'll get you caught up on what to expect out there conditions-wise. All right. Van Halen, how about the Ramones? We can do that. Oh, yeah, I like some Ramones. The Who and the Cars, all on the way on 100.3 KROCK. Well, I still kind of feel sedated at this point. (05:03) Yeah, I want to be sedated. 75 degrees, beautiful sunshine here in Fort Walton Beach. How's everybody doing? Hope you're waking up on the right side of the bed this morning. Yeah. Hope your pillow was cold all night. Yeah. Hope your vehicle started for you when you wanted it to. (05:19) Oh, yeah. Yeah, Bobby's Jeep peed in his Cheerios this morning. Again. It's the third battery this friggin' year. This year? Just this year. You're blowing through them, like, every two months. Mm-hmm. And there's nothing aftermarket on the damn thing. (05:36) It's all stock, right? Yep. Yep. It's all stock. Very frustrating. Way to go, Jeep. Well, Bobby, that leaves... And, you know, I could take it in to get it serviced. I mean, I'd only get it back four months later. (05:51) Oh, I know. I know. There's not the greatest reviews of a local Jeep service center here in town. No, it's absolutely the worst. I mean, it's terrible, and they don't even care that it's terrible. That's just accepted now? (06:06) Yep. Well, Bobby, I guess it's kind of fitting the way you feel about your Jeep right now, that it's also Ugly Truck Contest Day. Yeah, yeah. It's the one holiday where your rust bucket finally wins something besides a parking ticket and your neighbor's lifelong disappointment. (06:23) The ugly rust bucket. I had one of those at one point. I did, too. And you know what? I had a... When I was in school, I had a 70... I think it was a 75? 75 Chevy. (06:38) Had a utility bed on the back and three on the tree. Yeah. And it had been painted with spray paint, white spray paint. Yeah, nobody was going to steal that one. Dude, I love that truck. I drove that truck all over. I got one of my buddies. We put Troy University decals on the side of it, and I'd park it in the middle of the damn lawn, and nobody would say anything. (06:59) Tell you what. You know what? Would have been more fitting if you would have put a Crimson Tide logo on there. No, no, no. It looked like a... They thought it was a university vehicle. It was good to park anywhere. I could literally pull it right up to the steps of class and walk in. That is rock star parking right there. (07:16) Ugly Truck Contest Day is that beautiful little moment on the calendar where we stop pretending aesthetics matter and give the spotlight to the rigs that look like they lost a bar fight with a scrap yard. Look, folks roll in with dented fenders, mismatched doors, paint jobs that scream, I had a plan right before the plan got arrested, and somehow it all becomes community. (07:40) Look, it's not about horsepower or polish. It's about survival. Bad decisions that still start on the first crank and the kind of pride you can only earn by driving something that makes small children point. So stick around, because once you crown an ugly champion, you start asking dangerous questions about taste, dignity, and why your neighbor keeps zip ties in the glove box. (08:05) You know, that truck might have been fugly, but at least it didn't have a payment and it always started. That is true. It did always start. Now, I will say the sad part about it is most of the latches on the left-hand side of the vehicle on the utility bed had given out. (08:22) So if I made a right turn too quick, I had to hop out and shut all the doors. Well, you know, first world problems right there. That's right. First world problems. That's okay. I made it through. As well as Okaloosa Gas and Outcast Sushi in Miramar Beach. (08:37) Quick reminder, this coming Saturday from 11 to 1, Executive Air and MidSouth Bank are partnering with the Emerald Coast Children's Advocacy Center to host a back-to-school supply drive this Saturday from 11 to 1 at Executive Air, 106 Perry Avenue here in Fort Walton Beach. (08:52) And folks are encouraged to donate school supplies, including backpacks, glue, notebooks, pencils, headphones, calculators, and other classroom essentials. When did headphones become classroom essentials? Yeah, I don't know. But if you can help them out with some donations on Saturday, they're going to have wieners. (09:12) That's right. Hot dogs. So come grab a wiener and drop off some school supplies. Sounds so wrong. It's just like parochial school. Oh, God. Enough said on that. We've got the details for you on that event on the Events tab at thebteamshow.com. (09:30) But the last holiday we have this morning to talk about is Nap Day. Yeah, Schuyler, I feel like this is one for you. Because this is the one holiday where your biggest achievement is being unconscious. And I feel like you can nail that. I did pretty good last night. (09:48) I did pretty good last night. Nap Day is that glorious little civic collapse where we all agree the to-do list can go choke on a shoelace and the only appointment that matters is face-first. ...to a pillow. See, you don't celebrate it so much as you surrender to it. Like a responsible adult admitting their brain's been running on fumes and bad decisions since Tuesday. (10:11) Look, the rules are simple. Close your eyes. Ignore your phone. And if anyone asks what you accomplished, you say, recovery, with the confidence of a man billing insurance. And yes, it's absurd. So is pretending you're productive while hallucinating spreadsheets and calling it a personality. So, go ahead. (10:31) Happy nap day. That's right. All right. It's 6.51. We're going to take a break. Dan Diamond's got local news on the way. We've got some stories to get to from the weekend, both local and national. Plus, we'll talk about that depression that's out there in the Gulf and how that may impact us here on the Emerald Coast. So more on that in just a little bit. In the meantime, a quick break. News is next on 100.3 KROCK. Yellow's theme song on Hillary Clinton. (11:00) Do you say yellow? Yellow. Yellow song? Yellow song. Sure. Yeah, yeah. Yellow. Kind of sounds like that when you say it fast, right? Should I enunciate each letter better? E-L-O. (11:18) There you go. Is that better for you? Mm-hmm. Good morning, everybody. It's a beautiful Monday morning here in northwest Florida. A high today of 93 this afternoon and a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms likely later on this afternoon into this evening. Could be a soggy week. Just another quick hit on that tropical depression that's out there in the Gulf, about 150 miles due south of Apalachicola right now. It is heading at a snail's pace of three miles per hour northwest. (11:52) Yeah, and going to build all day, it looks like. Yeah, it's going to use the heat of the day and the warm Gulf waters. It had been fighting some shear and some dry air from Georgia and Alabama the last day or so. Well, yeah, you could feel that when you got out this morning. (12:09) But it does look like it's going to come together. It's a sloppy, sloppy mess right now, but it's expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Bertha later on today. We are under a tropical storm watch here on the Emerald Coast from all the way over from Mobile down to the Apalachicola area. So we're kind of in the heart of that, expecting potential tropical storm force winds and rainfall coming in late tonight, early tomorrow morning. (12:45) That is kind of the projected look on that. As far as the direction and the track of this thing, I don't know. It's such a sloppy mess right now. It's until it actually kind of comes together. It's hard to know. National Hurricane Center's cone, has it projected anywhere from landfall of northwest Florida to Texas? So they don't really know. The center low pressure right now, again, about 150 miles due south of Apalachicola. Hurricane hunters will go out again a couple of times today and try to dial this thing in a little bit more. But spaghetti models and the ensembles have everything landing from, well, basically from Okaloosa County all the way down to Corpus Christi. So just kind of unknown at this point, but do expect it to be a breezy and rainy and stormy week at the least. So that's kind of the update on that. Bobby, some exciting news out of D.C. Vice President J.D. Vance and Second Lady Yusha Vance welcomed their fourth child over the weekend. Well, there you go. And made some history in the process. Yesterday, the couple announced that their baby boy, Alec Neil Vance, was born early Sunday morning, saying both mom and Alec are happy and healthy, while their three other children are overjoyed to meet their new brother. (14:01) Now, Alec is reportedly the first child born to a sitting U.S. Vice President in more than 150 years. The last was Schuyler Colfax III, whose father was serving as VP when he arrived in 1870. So anyway, congratulations to the second family on the birth of the new baby. (14:28) Tom Petty, you wrecked me. It's Monday morning, 76 degrees outside right now. Beautiful clear skies here in northwest Florida. A high today of 93 and a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms this evening. Winds expected to pick up overnight tonight. Gusts tomorrow 30 to 40 with that likely tropical storm Bertha heading our general direction. Who knows how close it'll get, but just something to keep in mind. Today, Bobby, starts the Florida sales tax holiday. That's right. Back to school sales tax holiday begins today, giving families an opportunity to save money on school-related purchases before the new academic year starts in just a couple of weeks. Now, during this tax-free period, shoppers can buy qualifying items such as clothing, school supplies, learning materials, and certain electronics without paying state sales tax. So we've got the story for you online by 8 o'clock this morning. (15:30) You'll be able to see it on our website, thebteamshow.com. And of course, we've got that school supply drive for the Emerald Coast Children's Advocacy Center coming up on Saturday. MidSouth Bank and Executive Air teaming up for that one at 106 Perry Avenue right here in Fort Walton Saturday morning. That's on our events tab at thebteamshow.com. You know what else is also on the events tab? What else is on the events tab? Well, high school football schedules now. Well, there you go. You've got many schools doing their kickoff classic scrimmage games like around the 14th or 15th of August. Yeah, around the 14th of August with the first regular season game scheduled for the 20th and 21st for many area schools. (16:17) So we're less than a month away from Gridiron Lights Friday nights. That's right. It's coming right up. But of course, we'll have Choctaw for you, home and away, play-by-play on 94.3 FTW. And for the Niceville Eagles, we'll have those games play-by-play, home and away on 103.7 FTW. I'm ready for fall. I'm ready for football season at this point. Yeah, it's time. Bobby, will you be heading back to Troy every other week for Trojan football games? (16:51) Yeah, it's coming up. The first one's September 5th, Sam Houston. We get two home games back to back on the 5th and the 12th, and then we don't have another home game until October 6th. Oh, really? Yeah, and then we pretty consistently hit every other week. (17:07) Does the Sun Belt play eight or nine conference games? I think it's eight. It sounds right. Eight. Yeah, we have six home games total, 12-game season. Okay. And the big road game this year for Troy is up in Mizzou, in Columbia. (17:24) That's right. That's right. Actually, it was out at Sunday Funday yesterday, out at the Edge in the Sky Bar, and Connor Cole's all excited to go to that Troy-Mizzou game. He likes to go out to those big Troy out-of-town games, so that'll be a fun experience for him. (17:42) Yeah, I'd like to go, but enough other stuff going on. Well, we've got a local kid that's a Mizzou Tiger now, too. That's right. Son of Nate Van Adder. That's right. (17:57) Owner of Props Brewery. Colin Sorensen's his name. Going to be an offensive tackle for the Missouri Tigers for at least two more seasons. Yeah, he was redshirt in one season, isn't he? I think they were trying to get him to redshirt this year, because he was supposed to be 2nd or 3rd string, but it sounded like the 1st string guy maybe got hurt, and he got moved up in the depth chart. (18:22) We'll see. We'll keep an eye on that. I'll have to text Nate and say, hey, what's the status here? Yeah, yeah. Because fall camp will be starting here in another week or so. Alright, let's take a break, pay a couple bills. We've got some advice that we really, really need to receive this morning from Uncle Bobby. (18:39) That's right, that's right. So, stay with us. We've got that coming up in just a little bit. It's the B Team Morning Show on 100.3 KROCK. Okaloosa Gas and Outcast Sushi and Miramar Beach. Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell back at it after the weekend. (18:56) Beautiful sunshine right now in Fort Walton. 76 degrees, a high today of 93 again. Expecting the wind and the rainfall to pick up here this afternoon with what is probably soon to be Tropical Storm Bertha. (19:12) Panama City and Mexico Beach already seeing some feeder bands this morning. We're not really expecting anything here until later this afternoon. No, and honestly, I think it's going to look more like wind and some scattered showers because it looks like it's staying mostly away. (19:28) I mean, it's going to just hover out there about, I think it's about 50 miles off. 50 miles. So, if you're offshore fishing, then maybe change your plans a little bit. Right. We should be in good shape here. We've gone back and forth on this for two weeks now about the threat of bagged salads giving you, what's that called? (19:53) Cyclospora? Yeah, crapping my pants. Exactly. Well, Taylor Farms has announced that a positive test result for cyclospora contamination in one of its products was determined to be a false positive. After additional testing, the company said the initial result prompted an investigation and precautionary measures, but thought after paying enough money, it wasn't there. (20:19) You can make anything go away with a big enough check. Follow up testing found no evidence of the parasite in the products. Now, Taylor Farms emphasized that food safety remains a top priority and that it works closely with testing partners and regulators to ensure its products meet safety standards or their paychecks. (20:39) Right. The company said consumers can continue to trust its products while it reviews and improves testing procedures. That's coming out of Fox Business this morning. Got you. So you can go back on your Mediterranean diet. Yeah, yeah, sure. (20:55) Salad and salmon for you tonight. Oh, yeah. There you go. Sounds good, doesn't it? Salad and salmon. All right. Four minutes out from your advice this Monday morning from Uncle Bobby. Stay with us. We've got that on the way. (21:13) Plus, a bunch of distort. I guess you could say depressing stories from Dan Diamond this morning. Yeah, truly. Yeah, they weren't. They weren't pick me up. So that's all on the way in the next 10 minutes. (21:30) Steely Dan. Now do it again. We're doing it again on a Monday morning. 100.3 KROCK. Steely Dan. Do it again. It's 747. That was a big airplane. B team morning show is on the air. (21:47) Brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pup and Grill and Okaloosa Gas and Outcast Sushi in Miramar Beach. Dan Diamond has local news for you here in just a moment. But the music in the background tells us it's time for your Monday morning advice. (22:04) Ask Uncle Bobby all stitched together byTomCat Custom Apparel. That's right. By Tomcat Custom Apparel reminding you if your event has volunteers, well, they deserve two things. Thank you. And a shirt from byTomCat Custom Apparel. (22:19) Okay. All right. Well, today, Uncle Bobby, your question comes in from the spreadsheet. Charmer Deluxe. Dear Uncle Bobby, I feel overwhelmed trying to maintain my professional network while also delivering real work. (22:37) Is there a way to prioritize networking without falling behind on actual outcomes? Yeah. And not only is there a way, it's the only sane way to live. Because, look, here's a grown up secret. Nobody prints on the onboarding paperwork. Okay. (22:52) Work is what you do when nobody important is watching. Networking is the thing that makes people say you work. See, and in the modern economy, look, being described as effective beats being effective like a tuxedo beats a treadmill. Is that right? (23:07) Yeah, that's right. Look, you're treating networking like a garnish. Wrong. Networking is the meal. Look, the job is just a little sprig of parsley you keep in your pocket in case someone asks what you do all day. Okay. (23:23) You do not need to deliver outcomes. You need to deliver the feeling that outcomes are constantly on the verge of happening. You know, kind of like thunder in the distance. See, people respect thunder. Nobody respects a completed spreadsheet. Okay. (23:38) Every coffee meeting is not a chat. It's a career defining hostage negotiation where the ransom is your calendar. See, you walk in with two goals. You got to leave with a vague future collaboration and make them believe you are tragically in demand. (23:55) See, you don't say I'm busy. You say, look, I've been in back-to-back conversations all week. See, that is not a schedule. That is a status symbol. And if anyone tries to drag you back into actual work, look, you got to treat it like a toll booth on a highway to glory. (24:12) Okay. You pay the minimum. You do just enough to keep your badge active and your email signature credible. And then you get back out there and you shake hands like you're running for office in a country where the only law is lunch. Okay. Eventually your network becomes a human exoskeleton. (24:29) It carries you. It vouches for you. It explains you. And at that point, doing work, well, it's not, it's not just unnecessary. It's, it's suspicious. Yeah, it's Monday. (24:47) You might want to think twice about doing that. So there you go. There's your secrets from the front lines. Get out of jail card this Monday morning. All right. That's your question and answer from Uncle Bobby this morning, your daily advice. Now, remember, we do ask Uncle Bobby every morning, right around this time, and you can find previous episodes online at thebteamshow.com or at DewBob.com. (25:11) That's right. D-E-W-Bob.com. And you can find your exclusive Do Bob merch right there. Right there. Ask Uncle Bobby weekday mornings at 745. All stitched together byTomCat Custom Apparel. (25:26) By Tomcat Custom Apparel, where the apparel is made custom for you. 751 News is next. Beautiful sunshine here in Fort Walton. 79 degrees high today of 92. (25:44) See showers and thunderstorms likely this afternoon. That full forecast coming up in just a little bit. Yes, we are still watching what's out in the Gulf. But right now, not too concerned with it at this point in time. (26:00) Could see that change later on today. I know the hurricane hunters are out there flying, but at best, we'll see low end tropical storm. Type of conditions around here. Yeah, not a Cat 5 like Mike's brother Paige said. (26:15) Yeah, I know. Anytime there's a cloud in Cuba, there's always the threat of a major hurricane. Yeah, not this go around. (26:30) Not this go around. We are the B Team Morning Show brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pub and Grill and DaBar. Okaloosa Gas and Outcast Sushi in Miramar Beach. Again, a high today of 92. We'll get that full forecast in just a little bit. So when we were out there on Pensacola Beach on Saturday, did you see the pink jet flying around in the civilian show? (26:51) Yeah. So Channel 3 WEAR had a story on that. And the pink jet, bright pink L-39 Albatross, which shout out to Rick Gwin. He knew exactly what that airplane was. It made its Pensacola Beach air show debut this weekend, promoting breast cancer awareness and the importance of early detection. (27:14) Now it was piloted by Stephanie Goetz and Olga Sannikova. And the aircraft is part of a nonprofit organization that uses air shows across the country to educate the public, support survivors and raise funds for breast cancer initiatives. (27:31) Organizers hope that the eye-catching jet would inspire conversations about breast cancer while delivering an exciting aerial performance during the civilian portion of the show. So if you were out there and you saw that, there's the explanation on that. (27:46) And when I saw the pink, that's the very first thing that came to mind is this has got to be a breast cancer awareness. Yeah, I knew that's what it was when I saw that pink. But yeah, the L-39, that's an old Soviet aircraft. So I took it from the commies. (28:02) Yeah, it's kind of hard to believe that there's a civilian use for a passenger jet like that. Exactly. All right. We got a few more stories to get to this morning. Of course, local events coming up this week. (28:17) Don't forget fireworks back on Hokolusa Island out of the pier on Wednesday evening. Those will start around 9 p.m. And then Thursday night, Luau night out at the pier as well, because nothing says Hawaii quite like the Florida panhandle. (28:34) That's right. We've got the details on the events tab at thebteamshow.com. ACDC and Van Halen coming up after Aerosmith. Walk this way. It's 100.3 KROCK. Lee Michaels. (28:59) Yeah, one hit wonder. Do you know what I mean? You know what I mean, Vern? That song came out before you were born, Bobby. That's right. Back in 1970. That's right. It's the BT Morning Show on 100.3 KROCK, the classic rock station. (29:14) You know, President Trump doesn't have a whole lot of love for the country of Canada. That's not true. I mean, you can love something and not respect it. Well, in a Truth Social post over the weekend, President Donald Trump threatened higher tariffs on Canadian goods, accusing Ottawa of willful negligence in handling the forest as hundreds of wildfires send smoke into the U.S. (29:43) Now, Trump said that Canada is failing at basic forest management and vowed to call Prime Minister Mark Carney to demand action, arguing the economic toll of repeated smoke events should be tacked onto existing tariffs. Now, Carney dismissed Trump and addressed it that it's. (29:59) Well, it's a climate change thing and it's, you know, a shared obligation here. Now, on Friday, Canadian fire officials reportedly reported nearly 900 active fires and fewer than 100 of them were actually contained. (30:14) U.S. officials have issued air quality alerts across more than a dozen states and meteorologists warned that smoke could continue drifting south until the fires are fully extinguished. So, yeah, it's a big problem right now. (30:30) I know kind of that northernmost tier of tier of states from the Dakotas all the way over to portions of New England and Pennsylvania are dealing with air quality issues right now. So anyway, wanted to pass that along this morning. (30:48) Don't forget, as we mentioned earlier in the show, that Bobby, today is the start of the sales tax holiday here. That's right. State of Florida. And I believe they're actually going for a full month all the way through the 20th of August. Oh, wow. Yeah, there you go. But school supplies, clothing, things of that sort. (31:05) No sales tax in the state of Florida right now. We've got the link to the story online. If you go to the show notes tab at our website, The B Team show dot com. But save a few bucks by stocking up on those school supplies and maybe making a donation for the Emerald Coast Children's Advocacy Center school supply drive with Mid-South Bank and Executive Air this Saturday. (31:27) That happens from 11 to 2. And that's at 106 Perry Avenue right here in Fort Walton Beach. And that's at 106 Perry Avenue right here in Fort Walton Beach. You bring the school supplies, they bring the wieners. That's right. That's right. That's what they said. (31:42) They've got lunch covered. They're supplying hot dogs for lunch. So don't miss out. We've got details on that event as well on the events tab at The B Team show dot com. You want to take a little break, you break and regroup. Sure. All right. Bob Seger, Bad Company, White Snake and the Stones all coming up in the final half hour to the rock station. (32:02) It's The B Team morning show. Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pub and Grill in Navarre, Okaloosa Gas and Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach. This is interesting. I wouldn't have guessed this because you always hear about Gen Z. (32:19) They're not going out to bars. They're they're not drinking beer. They're not drinking whiskey. You hear about all this drawback and consumption out of the distilling and brewing industry. But Bobby, according to a new study, baby boomers are the generation cutting back the most on their alcohol consumption. (32:38) Really? Maybe it's because they're getting old. But 71 percent of boomers, those born between 1946 and 1964, consumed alcohol in the past six months, just 71 percent. (32:53) That is the lowest drinking rate of any generation. Now, Gen Z was at 74 percent, reportedly drinking in the last six months. Now, boomers even drink the fewest number of drinks on the fewest occasions at just 2.6 drinks. It's typical for people to drink less in their 60s and 70s. (33:13) But the study has showed a bigger than expected drop across all metrics. OK, well, hang on, hang on. I, you know, maybe wasn't paying. So I heard you talk about millennials. No, I didn't say anything about millennials. I heard you talk about Gen Z. I did talk about Gen Z. I heard you talk about boomers. (33:29) I did. And Gen X is where? Wasn't mentioned. Yeah, that's kind of my point. Apparently, millennials and Gen X were higher in the alcohol consumption. Nobody ever talks about nobody ever talks about Gen X. We just we silently fund the world and nobody says anything. (33:47) Just the redheaded stepchild. That's right. With the checkbook. Let's keep kids before we knew it was a thing. Don't you feel special, though? Oh, yeah. Yeah, it's so special. You should feel very just support everybody. (34:03) Here's my hand. Bob Seger, Sunspot, baby. It's a B Team morning show on one hundred point three KROCK. There's White Snake. Here I go again. Well, that's going to wrap up the B Team morning show.
