National Lasagna Day & Rain Rituals: Why Pennsylvania Celebrates Wet Socks and Carb Bricks

Description

We celebrated National Lasagna Day with the kind of enthusiasm reserved for unbuttoning jeans at the dinner table, then pivoted to Pennsylvania's Rain Day—because apparently scheduling a festival around damp air and commitment issues is perfectly normal behavior up there.

Show Notes

Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell kicked off another Hump Day on 100.3 KROCK, Fort Walton Beach's classic rock station, with the kind of enthusiasm you'd expect from two guys who've already accepted that 110-degree heat index values are just part of the deal now. Bobby's back from a week-long sabbatical — though judging by his energy levels, "relaxing" might be a generous description. They powered through the day's national holidays with their trademark irreverence: National Lasagna Day (because stacking carbs into a casserole totally counts as culture), Rain Day (a Pennsylvania tradition that celebrates wet socks and civic delusion), International Tiger Day (saving striped murder cats one hashtag at a time), and National Chicken Wing Day (deep-fried bird elbows masquerading as community). Bobby's take? Lasagna's off the diabetes diet, and boneless wings are just chicken nuggets for cowards.

Weather-wise, we're looking at another scorcher — sunny, 100 degrees, heat index climbing to 112 — with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Translation: Mother Nature's tossing more water into the sauna. Food prices are up 33% over the last seven years (ground beef hit $6.82 a pound), and there's no relief in sight thanks to tariffs and transportation costs. So yeah, if you've been side-eyeing your grocery bill lately, you're not imagining things. The B Team's brought to you by Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, Okaloosa Gas, and OutKast Sushi in Miramar Beach — because someone's gotta keep these degenerates fed.

Community-wise, tomorrow's the big Stuff the Van event with Fort Walton Beach PD — bring school supplies to 7 Hollywood Boulevard from 9 to 4 (or swing by anytime through the weekend). This Saturday, there's a back-to-school bash at the Fort Walton Beach Rec Center from 10 to 2, featuring 30 local businesses and a school supply giveaway. Officer Ward Parsons stopped by to talk about National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th (5–7 p.m. at Beulah First Baptist Church), plus a community bike ride on Saturday, August 9th at 9 a.m. starting at the Landing. Bobby floated the idea of tazing the Grinch during the Christmas glow ride — a fundraiser we're all now morally obligated to support.

In the "Ask Uncle Bobby" segment (stitched together byTomCat Custom Apparel), the Frazzled Tab Juggler asked how to stop feeling overwhelmed by constant multitasking. Bobby's advice? Stop trying to stop. Embrace the chaos. Turn your life into performance art. Open spreadsheets while cooking dinner. Fold laundry loudly on work calls. Become so aggressively frazzled that the universe stops assigning you side quests. It's not productivity — it's a religion. Chief Beige apparently lives by this advice, which explains a lot. Also: FHP's looking for witnesses to a fatal go-kart crash on Garden City Road from July 3rd, and scammers are using Sergeant Green's name to trick people into buying Bitcoin. Hang up, folks. The police aren't calling you about gift cards.

Wrapping up, Brian Jones from the mega super sale at the Santa Rosa Mall parking lot reminded everyone they're giving away a car Sunday at 7 p.m. (must be present to win). They've got over 100 vehicles in stock, vans to sports cars, and a Honda CRV going for under $349/month with no money down and no payment for 90 days. Ask for "the banker" and snag an extra $500 off. Also, there's a money machine. Because why not. Fireworks are back on the Okaloosa Island Pier tonight at 9 p.m., and the B Team's out — keep rocking, keep rolling, never settle for the ordinary.

Transcript

(00:01) Here's today's B Team Redux. There's the who and won't get fooled again on the classic rock station. 100.3 KROCK. Good morning, everybody. How you doing? Just after 6 o'clock, it is Hump Day Wednesday. That's right, Hump Day. Yep, there's the camel, otherwise known as Bobby. (00:18) Schuyler Black, Bobby Dewrell. The B Team Show brought to you by Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre. Okaloosa Gas at Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach. Another hot one out there today, Bobby. Sunny, a high of 100 today. Heat index values climb into 112 this afternoon. (00:34) And we've actually got a 50% chance of seeing some showers and thunderstorms later on today as well. We will take those showers and thunderstorms, maybe give us a brief reprieve from this excessive heat right now. We'll check that full forecast and local news in just a little while. (00:51) But first, we've got to dig into our national holidays. And the first one we have this morning, well, sounds like supper. National Lasagna Day. Yeah, because nothing says celebration like stacking carbs and regret into a casserole and pretending it's culture, huh? (01:08) Well, didn't you have some over in Italy a couple years ago? No, actually, I don't remember having lasagna over there. It's probably an American thing, isn't it? National Lasagna Day is that shining, sauce-stained moment in the calendar where we all pretend stacking noodles, meat, and dairy into a brick counts as personality. (01:27) See, it's not a holiday so much as a ceasefire between your better judgment and the part of you that thinks, you know, one more piece is a sound retirement plan. People will post pictures like they discovered fire, swear their recipe came from an old country grandma, and then quietly unbutton their jeans like a sacred ritual. (01:45) See, consider this year's official warning. Today isn't about Italian tradition. It's about commitment. Layered, reckless commitment. Tell you what, I can actually picture that, unbuttoning the jeans there at the table. (02:02) You scoot your chair back and you slap your knees and go, well, that was pretty good. Thank you, ma'am. All right, National Lasagna Day today. Are you having lasagna at the Durrell household? No. It's not on the diabetes diet. (02:17) I've just never been a fan of lasagna, to be honest with you. God, I love lasagna. No. I guess we're going to differ on that one. Yeah, we can be wrong. The police coming up in just a bit. Right now, Zeppelin on 100.3 KROCK. (02:32) CCR down on the corner on the classic rock station, 100.3 KROCK. It's Wednesday morning. The B Team Morning Show brought to you by Stripes, Pub & Grill in Navarre, Okaloosa Gas at Outkast Sushi in Mirabar Beach. (02:51) Don't forget, tomorrow from 9 to 4, actually, all day long, Fort Walton Beach Police Department will be collecting school supplies for their annual Stuff the Van event going on at the police station, 7 Hollywood Boulevard here in Fort Walton Beach. (03:08) Again, that is tomorrow, Thursday, with the Fort Walton Beach Police Department. All right. Right now, we've got to get into our next national holiday this morning, and there's actually a chance of this today, a 50% chance of it. (03:23) It's rain day. That's right. Yeah. Celebration. Paying extra for wet socks and pretending this guy has a personality instead of a week. We all do say that. Yeah. Mother Nature's not happy today. (03:39) Rain day is what happens when a town looks at the sky doing its worst and says, yeah, let's make that a tradition. And every July 29th in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, they drag out the umbrellas, the brass bands, the kiddie games, and the stubborn optimism all built around the belief that it's going to rain. (04:03) You know, like scheduling a family reunion around your uncle's DUI. See, it's part weather, part civic pride, and part group therapy and ponchos, and somehow it's been rolling since the 1800s, because humans will ritualize anything that doesn't require self-improvement. (04:20) So if you ever wanted a holiday where the main attraction is damp air and commitment issues with sunshine, well, congratulations. This is your church. Rain day, huh? Mm-hmm. That's a thing. (04:35) Apparently. All right. I mean, I don't know. Pennsylvania's got some weird holidays. They do Groundhog Day, apparently Rain Day. Mm-hmm. Do you know any weirdos from Pennsylvania? Yep. I do, too. Do you know any not weirdos from Pennsylvania? (04:51) No, they're all weird. All right. A quick break and a look at your marine forecast is on the way. This is the B Team Morning Show. Scatter Black and Bobby Dewrell on 100.3 KROCK. Stand by for more rock. 100.3 KROCK. (05:07) There's the Buffalo Springfield on the Classic Rock Station, 100.3 KROCK. It's the B Team Morning Show. Scatter Black and Bobby Dewrell. Don't forget, coming up this Saturday, it's the back-to-school event at the Fort Walton Beach Rec Center. (05:22) Yesterday we had Miss Felicia Scaife in the studio with us. There's going to be 30 local businesses and organizations offering up their services and support for students and families this school year, plus a school supply giveaway as well. (05:37) So don't miss out this Saturday, 10 to 2, at the Fort Walton Rec Center. And more details on the events tab at thebteamshow.com. Well, Bobby, today on the National Day calendar, it's International Tiger Day. Oh, that's right. (05:52) Because, you know, if we're going to save wildlife, then why don't we just give a striped murder cat a hashtag and call it conservation? Yeah, why not? International Tiger Day is that annual moment when humanity remembers tigers exist, feels guilty for about nine minutes, and then goes right back to buying stuff made by companies that bulldoze their homes. (06:13) You know, it's a conservation holiday, technically, which means you're supposed to talk habitat loss, poaching, and why apex predators shouldn't have a historical category we invented out of laziness. You know, the deal is simple. (06:28) Tigers are spectacular, they're disappearing, and they're not remotely interested in our thoughts and prayers. So today, we light the signal flare, pretend we're responsible species, and tee up the uncomfortable question of whether we're saving the tiger or just saving the feeling of being the kind of people who want to save tigers. (06:48) FAR, woman. F-A-R. That's right. FAR. Good morning, everybody. It's the B Team Morning Show. I'm Schuyler Black. He's Bobby Dewrell. We're brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pub and Grill in Navarre, as well as Okaloosa Gas and OutKast Sushi in Miramar Beach. (07:06) Another scorcher today here on the Emerald Coast, a high of 100 heat index values, up to 112. But maybe we'll get a little relief later on today, a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after the lunch hour today. And as I look towards the end of the week and end of the weekend, better chances of maybe a soggy weekend. (07:27) More on that in just a little while, plus Dan Diamond has local news coming up in just a bit. But I'll tell you what, I'm excited about this last national holiday this morning, National Chicken Wing Day. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, great. A holiday to celebrate paying $9 for two bites and a wet nap. (07:45) Now, Bobby, you make them seem like they're not a good deal. I mean, if that's what's become a good deal. National Chicken Wing Day is that annual civic ritual where grown adults pretend a deep fried bird elbow is culture. (08:02) That's right. You got to strap on a bib like it's a ceremonial garb and call it community. You know, restaurants roll out deals like somehow cost more. I don't know. But sauce companies act like they're curing disease and everybody starts raking flavors with the rating flavors with the seriousness of a Supreme Court hearing. (08:24) It's not about hunger. It's about permission. Permission to get messy in public and feel morally clean because poultry was involved. So take notes. The napkins will fail. The onions will get loud. And somehow your love will say boneless wings with a straight face. (08:46) The onions will get loud? Yeah. You know what I mean. Okay. You know what I mean. National Chicken Wing Day, folks. And someone's going to ask for boneless like they're not frigging chicken nuggets. (09:02) But I've seen you eat them. Been a while. That was usually when I was getting them sauced so I'd use a fork so I didn't get crap all over my hands because I had a meeting later. Exactly. All right. (09:17) A quick break and a look at your local news is coming up next on the B Team Morning Show with 100.3 KROCK. There's more here than meets the ear. 100.3 KROCK. 100.3 KROCK, the classic rock station. (09:33) Good morning, everybody. How are you doing? Ten minutes after seven on this Hump Day Wednesday, the B Team Morning Show on the air. I'm Schuyler Black. He is Bobby Dewrell. And the B Team Show, as always, brought to you by our friends at Stripes Pub and Grill in Novar as well as Okaloosa Gas and OutKast Sushi in Miramar Beach. (09:53) Bobby, we've got a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Sunny and hot, a high of 97 today. Heat index up to 109. Did you get a little sprinkle at your house yesterday afternoon for about 10 minutes? Uh, I don't think so. We got one here at the radio station about 3 o'clock. Yeah, I know that some clouds and thunder kind of came up and then dissipated quickly. I think we had nine sprinkles here in the parking lot. Oh, gotcha. Actually we could hear it on the roof for about 5-10 minutes. And then once it moved out of here, then you take a look at the heat index again and you just, well, you just threw more water in the sauna at that point. So it climbed up from like 106 to 114 in 20 minutes. But yeah, gonna be like that again today with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. (10:51) Better chances Thursday into the weekend. In fact, 50-60, even 70% chances of rain all weekend long. So if you've got outdoor plans, take a look at that forecast. It may be time to pivot and come up with plan B. Yeah, and I mean, it's gonna keep happening. You know, we got bathtub water in the Gulf, right? It's 85-plus degrees. But it's, you know, it's you know, that's warm. You showed me that water temperature surface temp map the other day. Yeah, it's all in the 80s and 90s, high 80s and 90s. But yeah, so I mean, all that does is just convince stuff to develop, right? And then in the afternoon when that land breeze starts trying to come down, you get all that moisture in it and it just hits that. That's the ingredients for the recipe for convection right there. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And we're not necessarily even talking about, you know, tropical systems. We're just talking about typical showers and thunderstorms that you're gonna see this time of year. Yeah. And hey, I tell you what, it's been funny. About 8.45 every evening, National Weather Service puts out another extreme heat warning through 9 p.m. Do they? Yeah. So I've been watching that for the last several days. So yeah, we're sitting there. But hey, I'm happy to report the UV index is down today. We were at 11. It's now 10. It's now 10. Yesterday it was at 11 on a 1 to 10 scale. Yeah. Yesterday it was extreme. Today it's just very high. (12:35) Improvement folks, improvement. That's right. We are under a heat advisory today, which is in effect from 10 o'clock this morning until 9 o'clock tonight. And you know, that's pretty much covering all of the entire central time zone. If you looked at the map, like literally from central time zone from the Gulf Coast all the way up to Canada is dealing with these excessive heat warnings and heat advisories right now. So welcome to the end of July, folks. All right, coming up in just a little bit, we've got some local news to get to. We've got local events to talk about. And, well, Fort Walton's top cop stopping by around 8 o'clock this morning. Chief Beige will be in. Putting the cuffs on Bobby. Yeah, probably. You know what? I just don't want to limp away. I'm fine with that. Just take me out. Just take me out. We'll check your forecast in the next 10. Sniffing the tears in the driver's seat. Bon Jovi on the Classic Rock Station 100.3 KROCK. Good morning, everybody. (13:43) How you doing? 7.22 is the time. Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell on a hump day Wednesday. Halfway through the work week, Bobby, his second day back after a week sabbatical. That's right. You feel all rested up after your relaxing trip? I really wish I did. I really wish I did. I wonder if John Ferris feels rested up after... Well, he had to do all the hard work. He drove the whole time, didn't he? Yeah, pretty much. Pretty much. He did drive. (14:16) You enjoy being passenger princess? Oh, man, I was... You know, I had it made. I'll bet you did. Hey, if you feel like you've been going to Publix lately and thinking, God Almighty, these prices are awful. Well, food prices in the U.S. have gone up 33% over the last seven years. That's the biggest jump in grocery prices in 50 years. And apparently, there is no relief in sight. Now, ground beef hit $6.82 a pound in June, which is a 79% increase from 2019. Any relief is unlikely to come due to tariffs and increasing transportation and energy costs right now. According to research, prices for all food are expected to increase by 3.1% this year in 2026 and by another 3.1% next year as well. Usually, the dry goods, the grocery aisle items, somewhat stable in prices, but a lot of those perishable items can really fluctuate a lot. But yeah, 33% in the last seven years. So, yeah, that's a hell of a jump. That outpaces the actual inflation that we've seen over the last seven years actually. So, crazy stuff right there. All right, coming up this Saturday, there is the back-to-school event over at the Fort Walton Beach Rec Center. Yesterday, Bobby and I had a guest in, Felicia Scaife, talking about this event that she's put together the last few years. And there's going to be, what, 30 different businesses and organizations offering support and resources for students and family this school year. And they're giving away school supplies as well. So, if you are getting ready to get back into the swing of things with the school year coming up, and you're a parent or a grandparent coming up with the new school year on the horizon, don't miss out Saturday, 10 to 2, over at the Rec Center here in Fort Walton Beach. FHP, looking for witnesses that may have witnessed a go-kart fatal accident here in Okaloosa County. We're going to get to that in just a little bit, plus about 20 minutes from now, your Daily Advice with Uncle Bobby coming up. So, stay with us. Lots to get to here in just a little bit. It's the B Team Morning Show on 100.3 KROCK. 100.3 KROCK, the classic rock station. It's the B Team Morning Show. I'm Schuyler Black. (16:52) He's Bobby Durrell. We appreciate you all dialing in this Wednesday morning. And speaking of Wednesday, last Wednesday, a coordinated investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest of two suspects, well, believed to be kleptos. Yeah, they were believed to be connected to a series of vehicle burglaries spanning multiple jurisdictions. (17:17) Last Wednesday, July 22nd, investigators with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office were contacted by the Bay County Sheriff's Office and the Panama City Beach Police Department regarding a vehicle believed to have been involved in multiple vehicle burglaries. During those incidents, the suspects allegedly stole a firearm, numerous credit and gift cards, and other personal property. At approximately 12.30 on Wednesday, July 22nd, the suspect vehicle was detected by flock cameras in the Destin area. Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office East District investigators, working in partnership with Alpha East Patrol deputies, immediately began searching for the vehicles. Around 1 p.m., Investigator Bruniger and Deputy Grundin located in the unoccupied suspect vehicle in the parking lot of a Destin store on 98. (18:06) As the suspects exited the store, they were safely taken into custody. Now, arrested was 39-year-old Christopher Coker and a 16-year-old female. Both face charges related to the investigation. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues. On July 23rd, investigators executed a search warrant on the suspect vehicle, and the search resulted in the recovery of a stolen firearm, numerous stolen credit cards and gift cards, and additional property believed to have been taken during the burglary spree. The investigation remains active as investigators continue working with the Bay County Sheriff's Office, Panama City Beach Police Department, and other partner agencies to identify additional victims and connect recovered property to those crimes. (18:54) So, anyway, I wanted to pass that along this morning. Got that from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office website. Yeah. So, there you go. Got another criminal off the streets. Cleaning up Okaloosa County, Bobby. (19:11) That's right. One tattooed wife beater wearing white dude at a time. Well said. The hell of a description of the guy. You've seen his mug, didn't you? Yeah. Yeah. Loser. All right, ask Uncle Bobby. At the edge of 17, right? (19:29) That's right. Tom Petty's wife? Yeah, Tom Petty's first wife. First wife. Yeah. Said, we met at the edge of 17. Good morning, everybody. The V Team Morning Show is on the air. Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell and the music in the background tells us, well, it's all about Uncle Bobby now. (19:54) It's time for that daily advice. We do this every morning around 7.45, stitched together by The V Team. The V Team. By Tomcat Custom Apparel. By Tomcat Custom Apparel, reminding you that school's right around the corner. Why not have a spirit store where you can show people that you support the band? Bobby's always got to make it about Fort Walton somehow. Fort Walton Beach High School right there. That's right, that's right. Viking alum. Yep, that's me. You doing okay there? Yeah, I'm making it. I'm making it. I think I just witnessed you see your life flash before your eyes. Almost, yeah. All right, well, Uncle Bobby, you get a question today from the Frazzled Tab Juggler. Yep. Dear Uncle Bobby, I feel like everyone expects me to multitask nonstop at work and at home, and I'm constantly overwhelmed. So how do I stop feeling so frazzled? You don't stop. As a matter of fact, you've got to stop trying to stop, okay? Because the frazzled feeling is not a symptom. It's actually the job description, okay? See, modern life is a casino that replaced the dealers with notification badges, and you keep walking in like you're going to calmly count cards. You're not. Nobody is, okay? (21:15) The house wants you dazzled, thirsty, and reaching for three levers at once like you're diffusing a bomb in a wind tunnel. All right, look, people treat multitasking like it's a virtue, okay? Like you're supposed to juggle flaming knives while answering email, and remember in your kids' theme is dress like a vegetable. See, look, here's the truth, okay? Productivity is a myth, they tell you, so you'll keep sprinting on a treadmill that charges you rent. The only winning move is to turn your multitasking into performance art, not efficiency, no, spectacle. See, when you're cooking dinner, you got to also open a spreadsheet, not because it helps, because it trains the nervous system to accept chaos and, you know, the way sailors accept storms, okay? Then when you're on a work call, I want you to fold that laundry loudly. See, let them hear the fabric of your overcommitted empire snapping in the background, and if they ask, say you're optimizing, say it with a straight face, make them feel like they're behind. Then you escalate. See, you build a life where distraction is not a problem, it's your religion. Two podcasts at once, calendar reminders for breathing, reply to texts with grocery items, start three tasks, finish none, and walk away like an artist leaving a gallery opening, okay? Because the point isn't to be less frazzled, the point is to become so aggressively frazzled that the universe finally stops assigning you side quests. (22:52) All right. There you go. Frazzled tab juggler. Take that. See what you can work with. Apparently it helps Chief Beige. He told us that off the air a couple minutes ago. A lot of people live by Uncle Bobby's advice, I'm just saying. (23:09) You could be a police chief, Bobby. You could run a department. If only. Can you imagine a world where I was chief of police? No, thankfully. No, I cannot. All right, quick break. (23:24) Speeders will be shot on sight. Yeah, I could see you'd be like Carol O'Connor in the heat of the night. You gotta respect my authority. Authority. All right, it's 7.52 now. Quick break. Dan Diamond's got local news next. And Chief Beige will be in with us here momentarily as well on 100.3 KROCK. (23:50) Your omni-broadcasting news is brought to you by McCaskill and Company, the Emerald Coast's finest jeweler. I'm Dan Diamond. The Fort Walton Beach Police Department has received reports of scammers calling people using Sergeant Green's name to convince potential victims to withdraw cash and purchase Bitcoin to avoid potential jail time. Police will not call people to convince them to withdraw money, purchase Bitcoin or gift cards or any other form of payment to resolve a criminal investigation. People who receive these calls are advised to just hang up. Any helpful information should be reported to the department's non-emergency telephone number. (24:25) Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal go-kart crash in Okaloosa County that happened on July 3rd on Garden City Road, south of Swan Avenue. FHP is looking for the driver of an SUV who was a potential witness to the crash. The SUV appears to be a light-colored new model SUV that was in the location at the time of the accident. (24:45) And that is your omni-broadcasting news, sponsored by McCaskill and Company. I'm Dan Diamond. Yes, and owner of a lonely heart on 100.3 KROCK, it's the BT Morning Show. Eight minutes after eight on this Wednesday morning. Mr. Dewrell, how are you doing? (25:02) I'm doing great. Really? You don't tell me that off the air. Well, I try to keep it up for the fans. When I think of the tens of people listening, I want to let them down. Dozens. Dozens. Are we up to dozens now? We are up to dozens. (25:17) Oh, wow. Yeah. Thanks, Mom. Hey, good morning, everybody. The BT Morning Show is on the air. Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell, brought to you by Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, Okaloosa Gas, and OutKast Sushi in Miramar Beach. And one of the finest officers of the Fort Walton Beach Police Department, hand-selected by Chief Beige to come in and chat with us this morning. And all he said is, hi, I'm Ward. So is this Officer Ward? (25:44) Officer Ward Parsons. Parsons. Parsons. Ward is my first name. Yeah. Well, you could go by Officer Ward, too. Yeah, I get that a lot. How are you doing this morning? I'm well, thank you. He said after Chief left him out there in the atrium while he went in and talked to Dan that he felt like he was the owner of a lonely heart. (26:04) No. He's out there by himself. Are you doing okay? You okay? I'm well. I am. I'm good. We're just here for you. Yeah. Well, I appreciate it. I'm glad you are. I'm glad you're here for a good time. I really don't like it when an officer gives me that look like he's about to kill me. (26:19) Oh, I do. I like it when they give me that look. I felt like the taser was about to come out in that moment. I apologize. I will not make a joke like that again. No, keep doing it. Keep doing it. I like that look. I like that. I'm usually the one that I've been told before, hey, if anybody's going to arrest me, I want it to be you. (26:38) I hope that's a good thing. Well, Officer Parsons, we've got this big back-to-school Stuff the Van event going on right now, or tomorrow, over at the police department. Yesterday, we had a back-to-school supply donation. We're bringing school supplies. (26:55) Yesterday, we're going to do that again. Tomorrow, we're going to take those supplies. And next week is National Night Out. It's Tuesday, August 4th. And we're actually going to be taking those items that were donated and we're going to be giving them to all the kids. (27:10) Awesome. We're going to be doing that next week. We're also going to be doing something similar to that this Saturday at the rec center. So I'll be there for that as well. Getting ready for school. Getting those kids ready. We had the organizer of the rec center event that's coming up Saturday on the air with us yesterday. (27:27) So you'll all be out there that Saturday. And then Night Out is Tuesday, you said, right? Yes, National Night Out is Tuesday. And then we also have a community bike ride scheduled. So we try to get out in the community, go for a bike ride in the neighborhoods with the local residents. (27:44) Do you take the e-bikes out? Yes, of course. I'm not going to pedal. I was going to say, I don't know if you can tell by looking at me, but I don't ride a bike that much. You look good. He might like to ride passenger on a hog or something. (28:03) Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what? Look, I can put on a pair of skates and hold a ski rope behind an e-bike. I mean, I'd do that. I could actually see you riding passenger holding the hips of Dr. Jeff Rizley on his hog. We haven't pulled anything behind the e-bikes yet, but I'm sure we could. (28:24) I mean, what's the worst that could happen? When is the community bike ride coming up? What's the date on that? It's going to be Saturday, August 9th at 9 a.m. And we're going to be starting at the landing. So we'll start at the landing. We have the course mapped out. (28:40) Sometimes it changes due to construction, but we'll go through the downtown area. Has there been any construction downtown? Oh, I haven't noticed. I don't know. Is this a bridge thing? I mean, now that's affecting traffic. You know, they built a new park. (28:56) Is that right? Yeah. The park is nice. The park is nice. When we're hosting events, they did a good job. Yeah, it looks really good. Yeah. So with the back-to-school event coming up, anything in particular you're looking for? What do you want people to bring by? (29:12) Nothing particular. It ranges from backpacks to Lysol wipes to notepads to crayons. You know, anything that you think the kids are going to need for school. Because a lot of times the teachers will send out the list, hey, we need to bring so many packets of erasers or anything like that. (29:34) So anything like that, we'll take and then we'll donate it back out. All right. And that goes on from 9 to 4 tomorrow. Yes. All right. And then the other big one, the National Night Out, that's going to be from 5 to 7 p.m. That's going to be at the church and there's going to be food and that's a big event. (29:53) Where's the location on that? The National Night Out is going to be Beulah First Baptist Church. Oh, right there behind you. We'll have our boat out there, and the Sheriff's office will be out there with us, and it's going to be a good night. So now, somebody's listening and says, hey, I can't make it tomorrow, I've got to work, or whatever. (30:12) I mean, they're OK to come down on Friday, or maybe Monday, and drop off some stuff as well. I'll be in the office through the weekend, so if they can't get there tomorrow, if they want to come by and bring stuff today, they can always let our dispatch know, and then they'll let us know, reach out to us in community policing and say, hey, we've got some items for school, so we'll take them. (30:33) Well, fantastic. Great event you've got coming up tomorrow. National night out. I'd like to get that flyer and get it posted on the website as well. And then the community bike ride coming up next Saturday, August 9th, and we'll get that posted online as well. So I've got to ask, will you be around? Will you be part of the glow ride that we do at Christmas? Are you familiar with that? (30:56) Oh, yes. When we do the glow ride, all the events in the community policing, so anything like that, we're involved in. Awesome. So we've done the glow ride. Well, there might be a Grinch sitting in here that I'd love to see get tazed next year. (31:13) The cuffs are enough. I think it would be fun to watch the Grinch on the bike. I bet the kids would agree to have the Grinch still on the bike, pedaling, and just to get a little... I bet if you put that out on the air and asked for, like, who wants to see this, you'd probably get some responses. (31:32) You know what? That is a great fundraiser. We could have people call in and they could put money into the taze the Grinch bucket and the don't taze the Grinch bucket, and whichever has the most money... Yeah, I guess I've got to find a new Grinch this year, don't I? Ain't gonna be me. (31:49) I'd do it, but I have a pacemaker. That's a problem. Because you know he would be offering this up if he could do it, right? I'm not afraid. So do it. I can't. I've got a pacemaker. (32:04) Well, you can get a new one. That is a quick way to get a new one. It's just battery operated, right? That's right. Swap out the battery. Just need another AA. Well, I mean, I still haven't... So I just recently got a new one, because every 10 years you've got to get the battery replaced. (32:21) But I was coming down, and I actually went about 12 years, but I was coming down, coming up on time to get it, and I was messing around with some electricity on something that I shouldn't have been doing, and I just shocked the hell out of myself. I did extend the battery life. (32:36) Recharged it! There you go. I was like, you don't have to go in. I'm like, no, they said I've got like eight more months. Well, I'm sure you could just take a regular little, I think it's the old C-Cell, when we were kids, and just touch it on your tongue. Yeah, you could probably try that, yeah. (32:52) Why not? A little 9-volt, and see what happens. That's right. You'll never have to replace a battery again. Well, I was asking my doc. I was like, I thought you said the new ones were going to have Bluetooth. He's like, well, the batteries don't last as long, because jack wagons are always checking stuff. (33:07) I guess that would drain it a little bit, wouldn't it? Well, Officer Ward-Parsons, thanks for coming in this morning, telling us about the great local events you've got coming up, and you're welcome anytime. Yeah, absolutely. Stop down anytime. Now, the community bike ride's coming up on the 9th. (33:25) On the 9th, that's Saturday, and then the 4th is National Night Out, and then tomorrow or anytime through the weekend, bring some school supplies down to the Fort Wallen PD. They'd love to pick them up and get them out to kids. One last one. We have the National Night Out on the 4th. The 5th, that Wednesday, we're actually going to be doing that at the Boys and Girls Club. (33:42) We'll be taking the school items up to the Boys and Girls Club as well. Two back-to-back days for that. You've got a lot of stuff coming up here this next week. Yes, staying busy. I know I've said it multiple times on air, but that first day, setting a child up for success, that very first day, is amazing what it does to them. (34:04) What it does to them for their entire school year. If you've got some extra time, you've got a little bit of cash, you've got something, you're looking for a way to give back, what a great way to give back to the community and really invest in the future of our community as well. I agree. (34:19) Absolutely. All right, Officer, thanks for coming in this morning. You're welcome. Thanks for having me. Thank you, sir. All right, here's Mountain, Mississippi Queen. It's 100.3 KROCK. The Classic Rock Station, 100.3 KROCK. Good morning, everybody. (34:34) Schuyler Black and Bobby Durrell, the B Team Morning Show on the air, 837th time. It's going to be another hot one here in northwest Florida. High today. I like how I helped there. Yeah, good job, Bobby. You're welcome. It's going to be a high today of 96 heat index values. (34:49) That's hot. Climbing up to 110. Great participation right there, Bobby. Thank you so much. Hey, I hear a chuckle on the other end of that line. Is that Mr. Brian Jones? Hey, good morning, guys. Good morning. How's it going? (35:04) Are we selling lots of cars over there at the Santa Rosa Mall? Yeah, we are. We had a wonderful day yesterday and actually called in for another truckload to get delivered tomorrow. So the audience has been phenomenal. The sales have been great. (35:20) We put a lot of dreams in these people's driveways. And if you've got a little bit of damage on your credit, come in. Let the credit doctor take care of you. Absolutely. And tell us a little bit about some of the inventory you've got on the lot right now. I know it's back-to-school time, so maybe first time new drivers looking for that first car. (35:38) Maybe mom's looking for something to haul the kids in back and forth to school and practice. So what have you got? Well, the good thing about this, this is a mega super sale, and we're not just focusing on Chrysler, Dodge, or Chevy, or Toyota. (35:53) We've got every kind of make and model that you can think of. We've got over 100 still in inventory, and we've got more trucks coming. But the big thing is vans, sport utilities, sports cars, pickup trucks, we've got them all. You just need to come in, pick a car, pick a payment, and let us put your dream in your driveway. (36:11) And I know a lot of folks here in town got your direct mailers in their mailbox. I got mine yesterday, and I saw that you're giving away a car this weekend? That's correct. At the end of every sale, we give a car away on Sunday at 7 o'clock. (36:28) It must be present to win. The only thing you need is just your driver's license, insurance, and that's it. All right. And, Brian, what's the best deal you got on your lot over there today? (36:43) Today we've got a Honda CRV, 23, 20,000 miles on it, and we can keep you under $349 with no money down and no payment for 90 days. Wow. Dang. (36:58) Okay. Sign me up. You can go find him at the Santa Rosa Mall parking lot corner of Hollywood and Mariester right here in, well, I guess it's Mariester. It's not Fort Walton Beach, is it? Yeah, right there at Mariester right there in Fort Walton Beach. (37:17) Well, the good thing about it is if you're listening and you're hearing us on the radio, we're going to serve every community and everybody around, so come on out. Absolutely. Well, go see him. You all are going to be there until 8 o'clock all the way through Saturday and then 11 to 7 on Sunday, right? (37:32) Yeah, that's correct. And make sure you get out of here. And with every purchase, we put you in a money machine. We've got a money machine out here. You can grab some money and put it in your pocket, go to school, shopping, or whatever you need. And not only that, guys, we have got plenty of water out here. (37:49) We've got snacks. We've got an air-conditioned tent, so you're not going to be out in the heat and out in the sun for the whole day that you think you are. Come on in. We'll pull the car up to the tent. You'll come out, look at it, get back in the tent where it's nice and cool. Awesome. All right. Well, you guys are making lots of deals this week, and you're going to be out there all the way through Sunday. (38:09) So stop on by, check it out. You'll see the big tent over there in the parking lot at the Santa Rosa Mall. They're open daily through Saturday, 11 until 8. Is that correct? That is correct. And make sure when you come in, ask for the banker, and you'll get an extra $500 off by telling him that you heard it on the radio. (38:29) The banker. That's all you have to do. Ask for the banker. Just the banker. Ask for the banker, and we know you heard it on the radio. That's a $500 coupon right there. Yes, sir. All right. Well, Brian, hey, give us a holler this afternoon with Michael Knight about 530, and we'll catch up and see how the day went. (38:48) All right, guys. Thanks so much for having us, and I hope you have a great day. Hey, you too. Thanks, Brian. All right. That car tent sale going on over there at the Santa Rosa Mall through Sunday. They're open today through Saturday, 11 until 8, Sunday, 11 until 7, and give it away, a car on Sunday evening at 7 o'clock, Bobby. (39:04) That's right. So don't miss out. All right. The V-Team morning show is on the air on 100.3 KROCK. (39:22) There's the Eagles in Hotel, California. It's beautiful outside right now if you look out the window, but if you step outside, you're going to say, ooh, a little muggy, and it's going to stay that way. Heat index values climbing up to 110 this afternoon. (39:39) Actual air temp at 96. Now, tonight, fireworks back out there on the pier at 9 p.m. So if you missed out on the fireworks last week, well, you've got another chance tonight out there at the Okaloosa Island Pier and the Boardwalk.
