National Chewing Gum Day & the Unannounced Call Ambush: Why Your Phone Is a Pocket Hostage Situation

Description

We tackled yoga, AI, chewing gum, and unannounced phone calls—because nothing says "enlightenment" like ignoring your mother's voicemail and letting a robot write your excuses while you fold into a pretzel and pray for peace.

Show Notes

Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell kicked off another Wednesday morning on 100.3 KROCK — Fort Walton Beach's classic rock station, serving the Emerald Coast with irreverence, sarcasm, and just enough caffeine to make it dangerous. Schuyler's out playing hooky again (visiting Mama in Des Moines, because he's a mama's boy like that), so Tom stepped in to fill the void — and by "fill," we mean he sat there and let Bobby do most of the heavy lifting.

We ran through the day's ridiculous holiday lineup: Time for Yoga Day (where you pay someone to watch you fold into a pretzel and call it spiritual), National AI Work Day (celebrating the co-worker that never takes smoke breaks but quietly replaces you), National Chewing Gum Day (honoring plastic-flavored optimism and the sacred tradition of sticking problems under someone else's table), and National Ask a Stupid Question Day (finally, a holiday for people who treat Google like it's broken and Bobby's patience like it's renewable). Weather's looking decent — 69 degrees at sunrise, high near 87, and about a 9% chance of rain today. After that? Thursday through Tuesday is basically a monsoon audition, so mow your lawn now or accept your fate as a jungle dweller.

We covered some heavy local news: four arrests in connection with a September 15th shooting that killed a 20-year-old man near Fort Walton Beach. The victim made it to a gas station before being taken to the hospital, where he later died. The suspects — ranging from 17 to 20 years old — are facing murder charges stemming from an attempted robbery. It's a tragedy, and a reminder that sometimes the news isn't all chewing gum and yoga mats. On a brighter note, we gave a shout-out to Jamie Edmondson at Holly Navarre Primary School, who was named Teacher of the Year — though Bobby couldn't resist joking about the "TOY" parking spot abbreviation. We also tipped our hats to the Navarre girls golf team, who placed fourth at the Miracle Strip Invitational, trailing Fort Walton Beach by just five strokes. Not bad for a sport where a good day is defined by one perfect shot and 17 bad decisions.

"Ask Uncle Bobby" made its triumphant return, brought to you by Hard Rock Bet — Florida's only legal app to bet on sports, where everyone's invited to the party (bet $5, get $100 in bonus bets, terms apply, don't gamble away your rent money). Today's question came from "Voicemail Avoidance Captain," who wanted to know if it's rude to ignore unannounced phone calls. Bobby's advice? It's not rude — it's civilized. An unannounced call is an ambush conducted with a device you personally pay for every month. His solution? Require a calendar invite for every call, complete with agenda, bullet points, and a hard stop time. If someone keeps freelancing with surprise calls, you reclaim dominance by calling them randomly and repeatedly. Let them taste that ring and remember fear. Also, Bobby hasn't checked his voicemail since 2014, and that's not avoidance — that's boundary maintenance.

We wrapped things up with a rundown of October events — and folks, there's a lot happening. First Friday Coffee at First Baptist Church this Friday, Dog Days on Saturday with over 57 vendors, the Hispanic Heritage Festival at Fort Walton Beach Landing on October 4th, Downtown Coffee Club on October 8th, and the Bloody Mary Festival returning to the Market Shops in Miramar Beach on October 10th (unlimited samples of handcrafted Bloody Marys, local food, live music, and SEC football on the big screen — because that's the only way you're getting people moving in October). Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity in Walton County, so you can feel good about day-drinking for a cause. Check out TheBTeamShow.com for the full events calendar, and while you're at it, swing by DewBob.com for all the "Ask Uncle Bobby" advice you never asked for — plus merch, because why not? Stay tuned, stay sarcastic, and keep it locked on 100.3 KROCK — where the classic rock never stops and neither do we.

(00:01) Here's today's B Team Redux. Good morning Fort Walton Beach. It's, man, it's a Wednesday. It is a Wednesday. That's right. That's right. It's beautiful. It's 69 degrees outside. We've got sunrise coming up at about 6.38 a.m. this morning. So you've got about 30 minutes until sunrise. (00:17) And I tell you what, if you get a chance to stick your head outside and take a look, it's scoring a 54 out of 100 today. We're supposed to have about a 20% cloud cover through that 90 minutes after first light. Really? Yeah, it should be decent. It is nice outside. It's not going to be one of the most beautiful and vivid ones, but it's going to be there. (00:35) Gulf water's up there pretty high. It's about 85 degrees. So I tell you what, you want to warm up a little bit, hop in the Gulf today. Still bathtub. That's right. Now be careful, though. It's about a moderate rip current out there. We're going to have 8 on the UV peak today. Surf's about 1 to 2 feet. Low tide coming up at 10.26, but, you know, hey, that's all the fun. (00:53) And enjoy it today because Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, all chance of showers and thunderstorms. Well, Thursday's chance, Friday's showers, Saturday's showers, likely Sunday showers, Monday showers, Tuesday's chance of rain showers. (01:20) Somewhere in there I've got to get out there and mow the lawn, man. Yeah, well, 9% chance of rain today. It's going to be sunny all day. High's hitting 87, so definitely getting that false fall in place. But yeah, then coming around, got about a 50% chance of rain on Thursday, 76% Friday, 69% on Saturday, 82% on Sunday. (01:42) 82% chance of rain. That's right. They can nail it down that much. That's right. Maybe you want to cut the grass today. That might be my only chance. Just saying. Hey, I'm Bobby Dewrell sitting over here on the big board. (01:57) Schuyler, he's out playing hooky again. Had to go back to Iowa to see Mama. Yeah, good for him. Such a Mama's boy. Such a Mama's boy. Such a Mama's boy. We've got Tom sitting over there on mic, too, filling in the second spot. We've got some great news going on around the Okaloosa today. (02:17) We've got an Okaloosa native named Florida Law Enforcement Chief. We've got four charges of murder in a Fort Walton Beach shooting earlier. The deputy's trial begins with opening statements. Man, there's a lot going on. We'll have to talk about it. Navarre High School students getting their prayer at the flagpole going on. (02:38) Good deal. The primary school over in Navarre named their Teacher of the Year. A lot of stuff to talk about happening all right here in our own neck of the woods this morning. Tom, today is one of those days where you've got to find inner peace by paying someone to watch you fold into a pretzel and pretend it's spiritual. (03:04) You pay somebody to do that. Yeah, so you know what that means, right? Something tells me that has something to do with yoga. That's right. It's the time for yoga day. Okay. The time for yoga day is that special little holiday where everybody pretends their spine is a suggestion. (03:21) Well, serenity is just one deep breath away from financial ruin. You roll out a mat. You can tort yourself into something that looks like a dropped pretzel. You call it alignment while your phone keeps buzzing like it's a personality offended by peace. Now, the whole point is to stretch, breathe, and reset your brain, at least until you remember you live in a world where people answer emails during Namaste. (03:42) Yeah, stick around because we're about to find out who's chasing enlightenment and who just wants an excuse to lie on the floor and be left alone. That's me. Yeah, that's kind of where I am. Leave me alone. All right, folks, stick around. We've got a lot of great music coming your way. (03:59) But right now, how about Signs right here? Red Ryder and Lunatic Friends right here on 100.3k Rock, the classic rock station. You're listening to the B Team Morning Show with Bobby and Tom, the only Bob and Tom that matter. You know, it's not often that a song just drops off like that. (04:15) Yeah, that's right. And you get to just start picking up right afterwards. Yeah, that one was like, okay, we're done. Yeah, no fade out. Just, hey, we're gone. And scene. No more cowbell. (04:31) Oh, man, it's a beautiful day out there, folks. I can see through the little crack in the window, you know, this little sliver of hope that we have here. I can see the sun. She is starting to rise. And, you know, it's nice out there. It's a decent little sunrise this morning. (04:47) Yeah, actually, when you look at the square footage, there's a lot of window in between you and outside. Yeah. But the angles take all of it away. Yeah, it's all gone. It's all gone. It's all gone. Sorry, Bob. And, you know, if we open the blinds on the other half, I could see a lot more. But why would we do that? Why would we do that? (05:02) It's like the rest of your life. It's a little glimmer of hope. That's right. But that's all you get. You know, no one has ever summed up my life so well. But you're right, Tom. That's exactly where it is. Always. Glad I could help. Yeah. Just, you know, as my grandfather once said, you know, every time I feel like I got a nickel in my pocket, someone's got their hand out wanting a dime. (05:24) Right. Yeah, just give me hope. It's nice to have something to look for, I guess. Well, we ran through our holidays. We determined it was the time for yoga day. That one's not going to work so much for me. You're not going to start doing yoga in the middle of the supermarket. (05:40) Probably not. No. No. No. No downward dog here. Yeah. No downward dew, Bob. No. Today is National AI Work Day. It is National AI Work Day. Yeah. Celebrating the only co-worker that never takes a smoke break just quietly replaces you and asks for a raise in data. (06:02) Yeah, absolutely. Right. It's the one day a spreadsheet gets more praise than the guy who built the whole damn company. That's true. We'll celebrate by letting the robot optimize your job right into a polite little email with the subject line, next steps. (06:18) That's right. That's right. So here it is, folks. That shiny little calendar reminder, right? That square where we all pretend the office runs on grit and teamwork when really it runs on prediction machine duct tape to a spreadsheet and a prayer. Yeah. (06:33) It's a celebration of letting software do the parts of your job you hate while you do the parts you hate slightly slower because you now got tools and processes and 14 new ways to be wrong at scale. You know, management calls it innovations, employees call it suspicious, and well, the AI calls it nothing because it doesn't call anybody yet. (06:51) So enjoy the holiday, clap for the robots, update your password, and try not to say anything out loud you wouldn't want summarized in a cheerful email. I tell you, it's interesting working with some of the AI bots out there and stuff like that and doing it because what I've noticed is that unless you shut AI down and say that's enough, we're going forward with this. (07:12) It will keep asking you questions. Oh, yeah. It'll just keep looking for more and more data. And circuitous, too. Yeah. Yeah. It'll just go round and round and round. And I've loved farting around with it a little bit going, hey, what do you think about this? (07:27) Is this a great idea? Yeah. Oh, that's an awesome idea. Well, wouldn't this blow it up? Oh, terribly. Yes, it would. It is just such your hype man. Yeah. Hey, I think I'm going to dye my hair purple and shave my legs. (07:42) Oh, you should absolutely do that. Tells you all the reasons why that's a great idea. That's a great idea. You should. Will it help me in my chances of getting a job? Probably not. And even if you tell it to give you the downside of it and the bad things, it's going to put a positive spin on them. (07:59) Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's an excellent idea. You should absolutely do that. Yeah. All of your money in egg futures. It's so interesting. Oh, that right there is brilliant. Here's the secret. Yeah. (08:14) Yeah. No, the other thing I've noticed with it, too, on some things, and I've heard a lot of people out there that just sing about it and all the vibe coding and all this other stuff. But I've tried working with it with some things like that, and I always notice it's like, okay, okay, it's not answering, so we need to do this. (08:31) And it puts out this 47-step plan, and you're like, did you check if it was turned on? Yeah. Oh. Yeah, it's not on. Well. Yeah. Okay. So before we reformat the hard drive. Well, so I was working on a project which had GPT, and I had asked it a question, and it said, okay, well, give me this data. (08:54) And I kind of looked at the screen because I knew we had plugged in that data a couple days ago, and so I had to tell it, can't you just go back through what we talked about the other day and get that data? And it came back with, oh, yeah, you're right. Why don't I do that? (09:09) We do have that. Yeah. Yeah. So that's why when everybody starts telling me about how AI is going to take over the world, I'm like, let's slow your roll on that. Not in 422 steps it's not. Yeah. (09:24) Not anytime soon. Right. Yeah. Yeah. And that's the other thing, too. As I've noticed, it'll build. If you just let it, because I've tried with a couple of little projects, just like, hey, out of curiosity, I want to see what it would do. Yeah. So like, hey, build X. And then it comes back, and you build it, and you look at it, and you're like, this is the most complicated, convoluted, hard thing in the world. (09:45) Yeah. Like nobody would have ever built it this way. Right. Right. But yeah. Yeah. AI is going to take over the world. Yep. Sure. Sure. Just keep believing that. Just keep believing that. All right, folks. We've got. (10:00) More coming your way, but right now we've got the number nobody can forget. That's the Tom Mason National Anthem right there. Why me? Why me? There are, there are certainly days when that fits. There is, you know what? I have never heard a song sum up so one so well until, until planet peace. (10:20) Why me? Well, probably brought it on myself. So, you know, there's that part. Ah, you know, that makes it good. All right, Tom, what, what day is it? Where, where are we today? Yeah. Bobby is national chewing gum day. Oh, okay. You know, that one holiday where we honor plastic flavored optimism and the sacred tradition of sticking your problems under somebody else's table. (10:42) Oh, that's absolutely how you get rid of it. So let's see. So let's see. It's, it's, uh, it's yoga time for yoga. Yeah. What was the other one? Time for yoga. And then the one we just did. Oh, my God. AI. AI. Well, you know what? (10:58) That's where you got AI. I can't chew gum. There you go. Yet yet chewing gum day. Is that special little calendar prank where we all pretend a, what a flavored rubber is a tradition worth honoring. You know, like it, like it didn't spend the last year glued under the kid's desk and haunting the bottom of your shoe. (11:16) You know, the rules are simple. Choose something minty crack a grant and act like you're not one bad decision away from sticking it somewhere. You'll regret in public. You know, that's a holiday for nervous energy, fake productivity, and, and the bold belief that if your mouth is busy, your brain can't get you in trouble. (11:34) So stick around because this one starts innocent and ends with somebody learning about consequences the hard way. Like finding it under the table and going, Ooh, Oh yeah. What's that? Yeah. You know, what's kind of funny. I was, I was thinking about that the other day. (11:49) I, you know, it seems like as a kid growing up, you know, you're always stepping in chewing gum or finding chewing gum. So, and you just don't see it that much anymore. No, I mean, it kind of, yeah, it's kind of the same way. I was at a party the other night and had to step outside cause I wanted to, you know, have a, have a little break with, with my pipe, you know, just nice, enjoyable little, and I'm standing out there all by myself going, you know, there used to be a time when you weren't relegated outside. (12:19) That's true. And that's almost gone hand in hand with chewing gum. That's, well, it could be something to that, Bobby. Maybe we should plug that into AI and see what AI says. Oh yeah. I'm sure. Hey, that's a great idea. While we're doing yoga. That's right. While we're doing yoga. All right, folks. (12:35) That's the Beatles, Lucy and this guy with diamonds. If you start to wrap up this a six o'clock hour, man, Tom, time flies when you're, uh, when you, when, when I've got to take care of you in the studio. I am. I am a lot. I know. I got so much extra work to do. I don't know what's going on here. (12:51) Well, sadly, I, I closed out all the, all the stuff I had on my, uh, had to open up on the computer, so I got nothing right now, man. Sounds, sounds like something you would do there, but I do have the holidays. So yeah, this is the holiday that, uh, really makes me think of you. (13:08) Yeah, it certainly does, man. Every time I call you, I'm like, God, I hope he doesn't think that today is not today is national ask a stupid question day. Yep. Yep. Finally, a holiday for people who treat Google like it's broken and my patients like it's renewal. (13:27) Yeah. You should treat my patients that way, Tom. Oh yeah. Yes. But I called you a bunch yesterday. It was okay. It was okay. I, like I told you, it's, it's, it's when you call about the same thing over and over again, it's usually about by about the third phone call. I'm like, do you want to write this down? You know, you know, what's interesting is, is one of our, our vendors that we are, one of our suppliers that we work with her name and you know, this, her name is problema and you go, that's so fitting. (13:54) Uh, ask a stupid question day is that special little holiday where society pretends curiosity is a noble while quietly handing everyone permission slips to say the dumb part out loud. (14:09) See, it's, it's not about ignorance. It's about honesty. You know, the kind that, that usually gets you uninvited from group chats and possibly Thanksgiving. You know, for one day you can lob a question like a brick through a window and call it learning. And somehow we all agree to act like it's healthy, keeping your hands and dignity inside the ride because, well, this is, this is just the warmup. (14:31) You know, as, as I, uh, as I have said for, for years, there is no such thing as a stupid question. There are inquisitive idiots. I fit that category many, many times, unfortunately. (14:46) Oh, all right, folks. Uh, we're going to wrap up the six o'clock hour. We'll be back with that motor scooter right here on 100.3 KROCK, the classic rock station. You're listening to The B Team morning show with Bobby and Tom, the only Bob and Tom that matters. Schuyler. Well, he's being a mama's boy. (15:03) Yeah. That's right. He went, he went back to Des Moines. That's more. Yeah. Yeah. That's, that's, that's the name of it, right? It is. You know, I want to say Bobby, uh, you made up for that last song dropping off at the end with, with mantra here. (15:19) Yeah. Well, yeah. Mantra. They got, they got that long motor scooter, you know? I mean, I think it's still going a bad motor scooter. Who's ever heard of a bad motor scooter? Yeah, I'm Jesse. I'm going to get on my bad motor scooter. And I'm riding on my bad motor. (15:35) Folks. It's about 69 degrees and sunny outside. Uh, probably the last day for it to be sunny. We only got about a 5% chance of rain today. Uh, but then, uh, well, excuse me. They've upped it 9%, 9%. Yeah. (15:50) But, uh, that's it. The rest of the, uh, the week is, uh, well, it's, it's high chances of rain pretty much all throughout, uh, until Sunday. So we've got a tropical storm Hannah out there, but they're now reporting that they expect it to be nothing more than a remnant. (16:06) Really? Yeah. Where's that? Uh, yeah. Out, out, out. Okay. Nowhere close. Okay. Yeah. Um, maximum sustained winds are now 40 miles an hour, higher gusts. Uh, but it's expected, uh, to weekend all day today and should become a post-tropical remnant by tonight. (16:24) Gotcha. So yeah, it's, uh, boy sitting out 70 miles. It's, you know, it's not showing me, I don't have a, I don't have a tracker right here in front of me, but it's, uh, it's, uh, Oh, well, there you go. It's at 35, 33.5 North 43.9 West. Oh, I have no right where that is. (16:40) Yeah. It's, it's, uh, it's that intersection of those two streets. So I can't think of the name of them right now. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's about 1900 nautical miles East of Bermuda. I was going to say somewhere near Bermuda. And it's about 1600 nautical miles West of the Azores. Okay. So yeah, it's, it's kind of higher than us and it's right out in the middle of the Atlantic. (16:59) Yeah. Boy, I, you missed the, you missed the geography lesson lesson last week of trying to explain where the Azores were to Schuyler. Really? It's out in the middle. Right. Yeah, he did. He didn't get it. He didn't get it. I've had a great time. I've been to the Azores a few times. (17:14) Had a great time there. Yeah. I've never been to the Azores. I'd like to be well, Hey folks, you might've heard Dan talk about it a little bit before people have been arrested in connection with the shooting that killed the 20 year old man. And it happened near Fort Walton beach back on September 15th, around 1 30 PM. So if you were one of those people hitting concerned citizens, instead of calling the sheriff's department, asking what was going on, why were the schools on lockdown? (17:35) Well, somebody was shot and killed right there at the, uh, well, he, he, yeah, he wasn't, he didn't die then. He actually made it to the hospital, but, uh, it was a bad, uh, robbery attempt and, uh, he made it to the Tom Thumb. Right. And, uh, anyway, since it was a shooting victim and it was right there next to prior and, uh, Choctaw and in the range of Liza Jackson, they all had to go into, uh, you know, lockdown as, as mandated, but, uh, the four arrested or 18 year old Gavin, Michael Brady, 19 year old, uh, Byron Deshaun Williams, Jr. (18:07) 20 year old George Nelson, Lee long and 17 year old Tevin Jerome Posey. Uh, all four murder chargers are stemming from the attempted robbery. Now, according to Oakland County Sheriff's office, shooting happened outside of an apartment complex off Ricky Avenue and David street. (18:25) Um, and, and again, the, uh, injured victim was able to drive to a nearby gas station, was then taken to a local hospital and later died, upping it to a murder charges. Now it's still an active investigation. And anyone at the information is asked to contact the Sheriff's office at eight five Oh six, five, one 7,400 anonymous tips may be submitted, uh, to Emerald coast crime stoppers at eight five Oh eight, six, three tips or through the Emerald coast crime stoppers.com or via the P three tips mobile app. (18:53) So, uh, there you go. That's, uh, that's what happened there. Uh, unfortunately, uh, 20 year old man lost his life and, and well, some teenagers are now going to lose theirs. Wow. That's uh, yeah. What a tragedy. It's, it's terrible. (19:09) It's, it's terrible. But, uh, anyway, uh, you know, that's, that's the news as it happens, folks. We don't get to hit, pick all the fun, happy stuff. Not always. Right. No, no chewing gum day. That's right. That's right. We do do our best to that six o'clock hour to try to try to hold it through. (19:25) But, uh, you know, sometimes, sometimes it's just, it's just ugly out there. All right. We've got a, uh, we've got a lot more music coming your way. Boy. And I did not plan this well because, uh, next up is, uh, you know, Schuyler's favorite song. Oh yeah. I heard Eric close it to Eric Clapton. (19:45) I shot the sheriff right here. 100.3 KROCK, the classic rock station. Uncle John's Band, by the riverside. Got some things to talk about, yeah. (20:09) A little dedication right there to our favorite deadhead. Who's that? Who? Tade. Oh, is she a deadhead? Yeah, she's a deadhead. I didn't know that. Yeah, I didn't either. No. Yeah, apparently Schuyler was talking to her not too long ago and she was like, oh, I love the Grateful Dead. Oh man, that's cool. Yeah, now every time we play Grateful Dead, we dedicate it to Tade. (20:27) Yeah, well, as it should be. The most put-together deadhead I've ever met in my life. Yeah, exactly. I don't imagine that she... I had a couple of fraternity brothers that just dropped out of school and got in a van and followed the dead around for a year and a half, two years. (20:44) I went to one of their concerts once. Yeah. Scary. Scary. I still can't believe these two just dropped out of society, got in a van, worked odd jobs. Isn't that amazing? I mean, it's the same concert, dude. It is a cult following, I will say that. (21:03) Definitely. Definitely. Yeah. Yeah. So a lot of fun out there. Hey, we got to ask Uncle Bobby coming up in a little around, I don't know, about 10, 10, 15 minutes or so. Very cool. Something like that. You know, trying to get too much going on. (21:20) Hey. If we don't miss it, right? Yeah. Yeah. Shout out to the Navarre girls golf team. They placed fourth with a score of 380 at Monday's Miracle Strip Invitational trailing third place Fort Walton beach by five strokes and J.M. McDonald led the Raiders effort in the tournament. (21:36) So a big shout out to the Navarre girls golf team for getting first. And Hey, you know, not so shabby there, Fort Walton beach with a, with third place back five strokes. It's not bad. Yeah. That's pretty good, man. Golf's tough game sometimes. I, you know, I, it's one that I mean, 380 sounds about like what I usually score. (21:53) Yeah. On the first nine. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. On the front nine. Excuse me. Let's just go front two. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. I know that you usually ride around on the golf cart. I do. I do. Tournaments. Yes. (22:09) I just ride around the cart and chat with everybody because it's stupid for me to try to swing every now and then I'll get up and somebody will convince me and I'll take one swing. Yeah. Yeah. And you're pretty good at handing out shots too. Oh yeah. That's, that's the one thing I do well. Yeah. I talk people into more drinks. (22:25) Yeah. I, uh, no, I've, uh, you know, I, I, I took off golf for a little while and played it. I actually, one of the companies I worked for, I realized they had a, uh, uh, inner company or intra company, uh, tournament. Yeah. (22:40) And so you got to take half a day on Thursday. Yeah. Cause you went and played golf and of course all the executives were playing golf. So Bobby wanted to get promoted. So yeah, I got some clubs and, and played and that did all right. Yeah. I mean, I wasn't, I was okay, but then I moved to Charlotte and, uh, it's, it's a lot more expensive up there. (23:00) Expensive hobby. Yeah. I was, I, you know, I was at the time I was living in Panama city and I was, I was paying like 13 bucks green fees. Right. I think with cart. Yeah. Right. Right. Okay. I can go do that. I get to, I get to Charlotte and I go to play the first one and it's like 45 bucks plus cart and I'm like, I don't like golf that much. (23:21) Yeah. Yeah. And, and to not be good at it. No, no. And then the, and then the worst part of it is, is that when you're talking to anybody, they're like, do you play golf? And you're like, yeah, but I'm terrible. Well, the more you tell them you're terrible, the better they think you are because they don't believe that you really suck. (23:38) Right. Nobody's that bad. Right. Yeah. So, I mean, I, I, you know, I was shot around a hundred. That's where I usually stayed. Yeah. But, uh, yeah, it was me just, I don't know. You got, you got to get out there. You got to hit range balls. You got to do all this other stuff. (23:55) And I'm like, you know what? I just got so much other stuff going on in life. You got to make choices, man. That's what it's about. Cause I did the same thing. I went through a period where I played all the time and then, uh, had my, uh, had my back surgery and my game just went downhill afterwards. And the doctor told me, he goes, I'll be honest with you. (24:11) The worst thing you can do is swing a golf club. Yeah. Right now. Yeah. Yeah. I, uh, yeah, I, I just, I was never there. So I, I eventually just stopped. Yeah. You got a nice set of golf clubs though, right? I did. I did. I mean, uh, nice, uh, graphites. (24:28) I mean, yeah. I think I got two bags up in my attic. Yeah. Yeah. And what's, what's hilarious though now is if you look at the clubs, you're kind of like, eh, but I mean, back in the day, you know, 20, 20 plus years ago, almost 30 years ago. Now, I mean, they were, they were the top. (24:44) Oh yeah. They were, they were it. You walked out on the golf course with those things. And you were like, I am, I am the shizzle. Well, what was so funny is because, you know, I'm so cheap. So those were actually a gift because I'm so cheap. I just went down and I think I traded in my old umpire equipment for, uh, for, and there were Cleveland irons with the offset hosel, but they were made for a short little dude. (25:05) And I'm six to playing with somebody that I think was maybe five, eight. So I play with us. So then people finally, you know, family took pity on me. And I think about two years and bought me these really nice clubs that were actually sized for me. Yeah. And then I could stand up and then my game went to hell. (25:22) These are just, well, and it's true. You know, you build that muscle memory around something and. Well, and then it, you know, it always cracked me up. I tell everybody and it seemed to, it's the worst trick ever played in golf is you sit out there and I mean, you're just, you're ready. (25:42) You're like, this is, this is it. Why am I paying this much money to do something like this? Like this is nuts. And then all of a sudden you connect with the ball, just the absolute correct way. And it just, it sounds so beautiful coming off that club head and you just watch it soar down there and you're like, oh, that's why. (26:01) And then you don't do that again for the rest of the day. But you feel so good. And that's the only shot you talk about. So it was a great day. Actually, I actually, I had a, I had a former boss. I was, I was so pissed off one day and we were out playing and I was just, I was so mad and he finally looked over at me and I said, I don't even know why the hell I'm playing to do, why I pay to do this. (26:21) I'm just, just got me so damn mad. Yeah. And he looked at me and he goes, what else are you thinking about right now? And I went, oh, you're right. You're right. All right. (26:38) You know, Tom Petty and the waiting, it kind of sums up mine and Tom's golf game. Cause that's what everybody else did. Waiting for that good shot. Yeah. They were always waiting. And that's the hardest part. Keep it locked in right here. 100.3 KROCK. The classic rock station, more to come. Led Zeppelin. (26:54) Ask uncle Bobby in about 10 minutes. Stick around. That was a Led Zeppelin with a whole lot of love. Yeah. That's right. Just making it, uh, making it work. Right. Um, yeah. And I'm, I'm sitting here now. I'm trying to vamp as I try to talk, Tom, talk, talk, say something, say something. (27:13) Once again, they just let it run out. Nice long close out to the song. That helps sometimes. Yeah. Yeah. Trying to, trying to, trying to get set up for, uh, for asking uncle Bobby. I forgot to completely get it there, but, uh, now we're close. (27:29) We're there now. Maybe, maybe it's one of these music there. There it is. I'll find it eventually. Now I feel better. I'm getting the mood now. I'm getting it. I'm starting to feel it. Yeah. Yeah. You're starting to get there. All right. It's that time folks. (27:45) It's time for ask uncle Bobby the best worst advice you never asked for all brought to you by hard rock bet. And on hard rock bet, everyone's invited to the party. Add your name to the list for bonus bets and all customers at bet $5 get a hundred dollars in bonus bets. (28:00) Now that's how you get the party started on hard rock bet. Florida's only legal app to bet on sports. It's payable and bonus bets. Not a cash offer offered by the Seminole tribe of Florida must be 21 and over physically present Florida to wager terms and conditions apply. And if you're concerned about your gambling, well, you call or text one eight, three, three play wise. (28:19) Yeah. You're going to get on that right now, aren't you? Jump right on it. Yeah. You decided, you decided instead of betting, you just opened a business. Yeah. I get it. I get it. Same thing, right? All right, Tom, do we have, do we have somebody that's in need of some advice this morning? (28:35) Bobby, we do. Yeah, we do. Voicemail avoidance. Captain asks uncle Bobby, a friend called me without texting first. And I let it ring because I assumed something was wrong. Is it rude to ignore unannounced calls? (28:50) And how do I handle people who just call out of nowhere? Well, first of all, it's not rude. It's civilized. Okay. An unannounced phone call is, is an ambush conducted with the device you personally pay for every month. So think about that. (29:05) See, you are funding your own little pocket hostage situation. The phone rings, your body floods with chemical dread, and suddenly you are staring at it like it's a live grenade. Somebody rolled under your couch. Now you're correct. (29:21) An unexpected call means somebody got arrested. Somebody's crying in a parking lot. Somebody needs a kidney. Nobody calls to say, hey, just wanted to confirm nothing is happening. No, no. A call with no warning is a demand for immediate attention with no agenda attached, which is the communication version of walking into your house and clapping twice like you owe them a performance. (29:43) See, and here's the generational hypocrisy that'll roast us all alive. We grew up answering the kitchen phone with zero caller ID. Could have been a wrong number. Could have been your friend. Could have been a man selling siding who somehow knew your father's first name. (29:59) Name. And we picked it up anyway. But now we let our own mother go to voicemail like she's a telemarketer offering extended warranties on our emotions. See, picking up the phone takes 11 seconds. 11. And in 2026, that's basically a blood oath. That is you agreeing to be trapped in a conversational basement with no exits with someone who says, What are you doing? And you have to pretend like your life is narratable. So my solution is simple and perfect. (30:29) Okay. Require a calendar invite for every call. Friends, family, anybody, even your mother. If the invite does not include an agenda, two bullet points and a hard stop time, you don't answer. And when you do answer, you open with a formal greeting and a countdown. You have three minutes. Start talking. (30:49) See, if someone keeps freelancing with surprise calls, you reclaim dominance. You call them randomly, repeatedly. No text, no warning. Let them taste that ring and remember fear. And yeah, I've not checked my voicemail since 2014. And that's not avoidance. That's boundary maintenance. Good on you. I'm so proud of you. (31:12) Actually, if I'm being really truthful, what's happened with my voicemail lately is something at Verizon. My visual voicemail. Yeah. All that happens is something went wrong. Yeah. And I don't get the voicemail. Oh, really? Okay. No big deal. They'll call back. Yeah. It's important. They'll call back again. Right? Yeah, maybe. Yeah. And if not, I'm not worried about it. (31:34) Man, you got to be connected. Don't get me started on phones. It's a little little sore subject. Oh, man. Little, little, little heartache right there. It's funny. My daughter looked at my phone yesterday and went, you have 600 text messages. And I said, I said, Yeah, that's what I deal with. Yeah, exactly. It's just nonstop all day. Exactly. Oh, I yeah, I get all the time. Hey, Bobby, did you get to get our offer about your land? Yeah. (32:02) No. And I don't want it. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, Bobby, interested in selling your your acreage up at blah, blah, blah. Yeah. And you know, for a while I used to, you know, play back like, you know, hey, always for the right price. Yeah. But then it's it's just this crap. Right? Right. And I so I had one call me not too long ago. One of those out of the blue where I answered it. I thought it might be something important. Hey, you know, it's a real estate agent. I got a buyer very interested in buying your investment properties over on blah, blah, blah. Yeah. Okay. (32:33) You know, are you willing to sell if the price is right? Okay, well, what are you looking for? The right price? Well, I need it. No, no, no. You tell me what they're willing to pay. And I will tell you if it's enough money. Right? It's that simple. Wow. Me. Wow. Me with the price. Oh, well, we're going to need this. We're going to need that. We're going to need the other. No, no, no, no. No, I'm not giving you the information. You can make some reasonable assumptions. You can do you can make it contingent on whatever you want to, but you put a number out there. (33:03) I will tell you if it's enough money, you know, I, cause I doubt it's going to be too much. Right. I'd say whatever, whatever. All right, folks, we're, we're sitting here. We're getting ready to wrap up the seven o'clock hour, eight o'clock hour, and then onto The B Team encore. Tom just realized he has to stick around until 10. So that's going to be fun. All right, folks, we got news and weather coming up. Well, just news. Here we go. How about this? Listen to Dan. (33:32) All right. murder while engaged in an attempted robbery. The shooting happened about 1 30 PM outside apartment complex off Ricky Avenue and David street. Despite his injuries, the victim was able to drive to a nearby gas station. He was then taken to the hospital where he later died. The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Okaloosa County Sheriff's office or anonymously to Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers. And that's your Omni broadcasting news sponsored by Bacascal and Company. I'm Dan Taylor. (34:32) That's a perfect follow up to the Uncle Bobby advice. No reply, reply at all. Yeah, yeah. Genesis. It's right there. It's it feels like, you know, when Tom talks, he says that a lot. Is anybody listening? No report. Hello? No report. I got nothing. Hey, you're listening to The B Team morning show. It's just after eight o'clock in the morning. It's a it's a beautiful Wednesday morning. I got to tell you, it's a nice and sunny Saturday. (35:02) It's 69 degrees outside is what they're saying. I'm you know, let me hit refresh. No, no, still 69. Is it? Yeah, that's what it says. I feels like it got warmer. Yeah, we're gonna hit me. It looks like it got warmer. Yeah, it looks like it. I would have thought it. I would have thunk it had in your glimmer of the outside. (35:22) That's right. You can see I mean, the sun's brighter now. Yeah, I'm gonna call it 7373 and sunny, high near 87. Today your ends are winds are out of the east at five to 15 miles per hour. It's like a if you want to go out and enjoy the beach today. It is a it is a nice day to go and enjoy the beach. Not not sweat to death. UV index is up there around eight. So that's that's still very high. That's going to peak peak around 11 o'clock this morning. (35:50) So, you know, be careful out there though that rip current is is definitely a it's a moderate rip current. So surface at one to two feet. So just you know, make sure if you're going to be out there being experienced swimmer know what you're doing. I haven't seen a flag report come out yet this morning. I was just looking for that. (36:10) Yeah, I didn't see anything. Yeah, I haven't seen it yet this morning. It's a little inconsistent. I have to pick up my phone in order to see that I see a voicemail and then everything's gone from there. That's true. That's true. That's true. A lot of stuff happening this weekend. So Tom and I are going to be out at First Friday coffee on Friday. Yeah, right there at the First Baptist Church on First Street and First Walton Beach. First Walton Beach. Yeah, why not? Everything else is a first just feels feels right. (36:39) I almost bought it when you said it. Yeah, I'd like it kind of sounded natural Bobby. It's pretty good. Oh, yeah, we would we would change that but that would cost money and get outside that 3% cap. So everybody had to get new business. It's just such a mess. It'd be just a pain just a pain. (36:55) A lot going on this weekend to Dog Days planned for Saturday. Rochelle was in yesterday. They have over 57 vendors going to be out at it. So a lot of other stuff. I can't even talk right. You can't even talk right now. Yeah, I was not expecting that. (39:24) I always thought that's what the lyrics were. But I guess not. I guess not. It's not doing the bump. No. Yeah. Oh, well, it's not what you said. Folks, it's a it's a beautiful morning right now. I got to tell you it's it's it's 73 degrees out there. It's sunny with a high near 87 winds are 5 to 15 miles an hour. Yeah, you can't beat it sunset tonight about 634. I gotta tell you it's gonna be a it's gonna be a flat. Yeah, there's only about 4% cloud cover tonight. So it's not going to be the most visible. (39:58) Vivid one out there. But anyway, it is what it is. You know, we were talking, Tom, yesterday, and I know you and I were talking about it off. We were just waiting to come into the break, but traveling Wilburys. So Schuyler and I had the argument about him the other day. We're trying to remember who all it is. We knew it was Dylan and Petty. Yeah. And then it's Clapton? (40:20) Uh, no, it's not. No. Dylan, Petty, Harrison. Harrison. Yeah. Um, and then Jeff Lynn and Jeff Lynn. Yeah. For some reason I, I keep, I always go back to Eric Clapton, but it's not. Yeah. I mean, like, well, Eric Clapton was in everything. Yeah. Derek and the dominoes, cream. Yeah. Yeah. He was all over the place. He was everywhere before he was Eric. Yeah. Yeah. (40:46) Yeah. Back when he was Derek. Right. And then he shortened his name to Eric. So, oh man. All right, folks. A lot of stuff happening around town right now. Uh, you know, and, uh, well that's, that's, that's where we, where we are. Tom, you got, you got anything? (41:01) Do I got anything happening this weekend? No. Just trying to mow the lawn. Don't know if that's going to happen with the weather. Yeah. We'll see. Maybe get some, uh, it's not quite time to get some Halloween decorations up, but it could start. (41:17) Yeah. Yeah. It's well, I mean, it's, it's close enough to October that you, you could do it. You could do it. Uh, so, Hey, uh, you know, a big shout out, uh, from The B Team morning show, uh, over to, uh, Jamie Edmondson over at Navarre primary school, who was named a teacher of the year. Oh, really? Very cool. Congratulations. (41:37) Edmondson of West Florida graduated from Tate high school and has been recognized as teacher of the year at Holly Navarre primary school. She's pursued teaching since childhood and focused on helping students to develop their abilities. So thank you much, Jamie, for everything that you do. (41:54) I, you know, those teachers out there is, man, it takes a lot. Yeah. You know what I, what I always think is funny is, uh, back years ago when I was finishing up my master's degree and I did some work, uh, out at Mosley and for their teacher of the year, they made sure that they had a specific parking spot. Yeah. But then it was so funny because they, they painted the whole front of it, like Mosley green. And then in the orange letters, uh, instead of like stenciling all the way out teacher of the year. Right. Cause that was a little hard on the maintenance department. (42:26) They just use the initials. So it said school toy. Well, it's kind of right. Yeah. It's kind of right. Just saying. Yeah. (42:42) So congratulations to Jamie Edmondson on being the, uh, Navarre, Holly Navarre primary school toy toy. Oh, in all seriousness, congratulations, Jamie. It, uh, it's, it's, uh, I'm sir. I'm sure it is definitely well-deserved and, uh, it's a lot of effort that you put out there, uh, focusing on the kids. And just by the fact that it says primary school, we already know it's people of Tom's educational level. Yeah. Yeah. What are you saying, Bobby? I'm saying, I'm missing, I'm missing this whole point. Well, I'm saying they're, they're five to, to, to 11. (43:19) They have his excuse. All right, folks, we got your weather coming up right now. Stick around. Don't go nowhere. That was, uh, all right now. It's all right. It's all right. It's all right now. Okay. Much better. Good. You should. Yeah. You should, you know, Tom, it's getting that time. (43:38) Is it getting close? It's uh, I, I, I, I, the fat lady ain't singing yet, but she's tuning up. She's having a bagel. I'm seeing, I'm seeing her do some scales. Oh folks. It's a, it's been a, it's been a fun day back. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Is that, is that where we're going to go with Tom? Oh, it's been great. Yeah. It's been a blast for me. (44:00) I don't know what it's like for you on that side over there. It's probably like, oh my God, I got this guy on the other side. A little more work. He doesn't know the routine. He's not got the rhythm yet. A little more, a little more work over here on this, on this end. Uh, that's, that's for certain. It has been fun. Yeah. Yeah. It definitely has definitely has a lot of stuff going on, uh, this, uh, this month, folks, uh, you can find it all out there on the beat team show.com. Check it out on our events page. Uh, man, we, you know, we try our best to know everything that there is for you. There's a lot. This weekend's pretty busy too. Uh, it's a, it's a busy weekend. Uh, we got, it's kicking off Friday with first Friday coffee. We've got the, uh, uh, chief master sergeant, the air force, Benneker Memorial run. We've got dog days, uh, there on October 3rd, October 4th is Hispanic heritage month. Thursday, next Thursday, we've got the October downtown coffee club. And then the 10th, uh, I gotta tell you, I'm looking forward to that one. October 10th, the bloody Mary festival. Yeah. Coming back at the, uh, the market shops, uh, over there. It's, uh, it's the bloody Mary festival. It's, uh, I think it's, uh, mainly, uh, beach liquors is, uh, is doing it. I think it's a, I think it's a Mike Kelly's thing. Okay. So, uh, looking forward to that. I mean, we got a lot of stuff, a lot of stuff going on and happening. And if you can't figure out what to do, well, you need to head on over to the beat team show.com and, uh, and check it out. Cause it's, it's all there. (45:29) I saw something last night about a, uh, a midnight, it's like a midnight shopping event that they're doing. Um, I think it's, it popped up on Facebook. I think it's like downtown music hall or something like that. They've got a, they've got a midnight shopping thing going on that I saw, uh, on the weekend. And, uh, I was going to look into it further and see what it, see what it's all about. It looks, it looks pretty neat. Although at midnight, I'm, I'm really trying to get back asleep again after waking up for the first time. (45:57) Yeah, no, that ain't, that ain't happening. Yeah. The, uh, the market shops, the annual bloody Mary festival is going to bring some over the top fall celebration this, uh, this, this year with food drinks and live entertainment all in Miramar beach. Now it's unlimited span samples of handcrafted bloody Mary's created by some of the Emerald coast, top restaurants, bars, and catering companies. I'll tell you what, I'm sorry. Yeah. Local food, craft beer, champagne, spike seltzers, mocktails, all while exploring vendor shopping. (46:29) There's going to be a cigar bar and interactive photo booth and live music. It's going to feature some sec football on the big screen display. Cause you know, that's the only way you're going to get people moving in October. Right? So it's a, it's just a festive tailgate style experience for guests, 21 and older, uh, beyond the food and fun. The event supports local causes with proceeds visit benefiting habitat for humanity and Walton County. Okay. So there you go. Some of those margaritas, man, they just go bloody, bloody Mary's. I'm sorry. They go over the top with them. Oh my gosh. I've seen him with chicken wings, cheeseburgers, all kinds of stuff sticking out of the top. And it's like, my God. Yeah. Yeah. I'm, I'm excited to see how this one goes. (47:10) Cause I know, uh, up in Minnesota when we run through and hit a lot of those, uh, those, uh, bloody Mary's that they, yeah, they've got, you know, like a burger or, I mean, how are they going to do that with a sample size though? You gotta work at it. They'll figure out a way, won't they? Maybe a slider. Who knows? All right, folks. Uh, it's about time for us to get on out of here, but we've, uh, we've got a little more coming your way. Uh, most specifically, it's, it's time for some news. So let's see what Dan's got to say. All right. And that's a wrap on today's B Team Redux.
