Dog Days & Downward Dog: How a Chamber Event Turned Pilates into Puppy Pandemonium

Show Notes

Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell kicked off another irreverent Tuesday morning on 100.3 KROCK, Fort Walton Beach's classic rock station, broadcasting live from the Emerald Coast. The boys were in rare form—lamenting the lack of free breakfast deliveries from listeners (seriously, what happened to community spirit?), dissecting Monday Night Football's shocking upset where the Bears stomped the Eagles 27-7 behind backup quarterback Case Keenum, and generally questioning why Ted Corcoran now flees the studio the moment the mics go live. Apparently Ted's developed some kind of allergic reaction to being on air with Bobby. Go figure.

Today's quirky holiday rundown included Words Are Hard Tuesday—a designation that felt painfully on-brand as Bobby stumbled through disclaimers and Schuyler contemplated the existential meaning of being a squirrel versus an acorn. Weather-wise, we're sitting pretty at 65 degrees this morning with a high climbing to 88, thanks to some drier air giving us those crisp, fall-like mornings we've been enjoying. Meanwhile, the big community buzz centers on Dog Days this Saturday (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) down at the Landing. Rochelle Graves from the Fort Walton Beach Chamber and Cindy Barry from Okaloosa Gas stopped by to hype the event—complete with 50 vendors (a record!), Harry Potter theming, Sonic serving corn dogs (yes, really), and even Pilates with your pup led by the same instructor who does dolphin yoga at the Gulfarium. Cindy's bringing Yogi, the French Mastiff influencer from those Okaloosa Gas billboards, decked out in Gryffindor gear. Because why not?

The recurring Ask Uncle Bobby segment—brought to you by Hard Rock Bet—tackled the Kafkaesque nightmare of customer service chatbots. Bobby's advice? Treat it like a hostage negotiation, weaponize trigger phrases like "fraud" and "supervisor," and write one-star reviews with footnotes. Also: become the ivy that cracks the corporate wall. Poetic, really. In local news, Florida regulators shut down an unlicensed insurance scam targeting Destin-area water sports businesses—two Okaloosa County men allegedly pocketed over $100K in premiums while leaving claims unpaid. On the national front, the Senate passed college sports reform legislation 77-22, putting guardrails on NIL deals and transfer portals (one free transfer, five-year eligibility). The House? TBD. Also: Walton County firefighters had a wild Friday battling two structure fires, including one where they rescued a pet monkey. Yes, a monkey.

Shoutouts to our sponsors keeping the lights on: Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, Okaloosa Gas (home of Yogi the gas-loving Mastiff), and OutKast Sushi in Miramar Beach. Schuyler's disappearing for the rest of the week, leaving Bobby to hold down the fort with Tom and Dan Diamond for Friday's First Friday Coffee remote. Catch all the show notes, past Ask Uncle Bobby episodes, and Do Bob merch at thebteamshow.com or dewbob.com—because nothing says "I love classic rock" like Uncle Bobby's face on your chest. Stay tuned, Emerald Coast. We're out.

(02:32) Meteorologist Jennifer Wojcicki with your updated forecast. (03:04) Already gone. It's 100.3 KROCK with the Eagles on the BT Morning Show. 7.41 is the time, about five minutes out from Ask Uncle Bobby. That's right. Already gone. You know what I miss, Schuyler? Hmm? (03:19) I miss the days that people would listen and bring us breakfast. Yeah! What happened to that? I don't know. There used to be love in this town. Yeah, people suck. LAUGHS I'm not going there. (03:36) LAUGHS I'll just laugh. Well, you're running for office. Blah, blah, blah. Anyway. Breakfast would be nice. But please don't bring breakfast the next five mornings. No, I actually bring it the next five mornings. (03:51) I will not be in town. Do not bring breakfast until next Wednesday. No, bring it the whole time. Let's make him understand why he shouldn't leave. LAUGHS By the way, last night, Monday Night Football, what a snoozer that was. (04:08) The Bears take down the Eagles 27-7. Didn't see that one coming, especially with Case Keenum, Chicago's backup, leading the way. But he was good. 24-34, 247. Two TDs. (04:23) No picks on the Eagles' side. Jalen Hurts. Not his best performance. You know, they were playing like Ditka was there. Ditka. Yeah. LAUGHS The Bill Schwartzky superfan. SNL episodes. (04:39) LAUGHS Sorry, I got a Polish sausage locked. LAUGHS Just over there having another heart attack. LAUGHS Jalen Hurts, though, last night, 16-25, 153 and a pick for the Eagles. (04:54) That did not see Chicago coming away with a win over the Eagles without Caleb Williams as quarterback. But Case Keenum, I guess blind squirrel, found the acorn. There you go. (05:09) Speaking of blind squirrel, find an acorn. Ask Uncle Bobby's on the way. That's true. Are you the squirrel or are you the acorn? Yeah, one of the two. It's 7.43. This is the BT Morning Show on 100.3. KROCK, stay with us. (05:24) Whatever we're doing. I'm done. Words are hard. Yes. 100.3 KROCK, the Classic Rock Station. It's a Words Are Hard Tuesday with the B Team Morning Show. Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell. 7.46 is the time. (05:40) It's a purdy morning out there, isn't it? We are at 65 degrees right here in Fort Walton, a high today of about 87. Got that full forecast and local news coming up in just a couple ticks. But music in the background tells us one thing. (05:56) It's time for your daily advice. It's Ask Uncle Bobby, brought to you by Hard Rock Bet. Hey, on Hard Rock Bet, everyone's invited to the party. And your name is on the list for bonus bets. All customers that bet $5 get $100 in bonus bets. (06:11) Now, that's how you get the party started on Hard Rock Bet, Florida's only legal app to bet on sports. Payable in bonus bets. Not a cash offer. Offered by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Must be 21 and over and physically present in Florida to wage your terms and conditions apply. Concerned about your gambling? (06:26) Well, call or text 1-833-PLAYWISE. I missed part of that disclaimer. Can you repeat that for me, please? Nope. Don't get paid to read it a second time. All right. Fair enough. Uncle Bobby, your question today comes in from Horse Zero Button Sage. (06:41) Dear Uncle Bobby. That's a name. It sure is. You've got to work on these. I didn't write that. Well, you're changing the names to protect the innocent. You should work on what your name is. Oh, you don't think they write in with their own names? There's been a few that have written in with their own name, but we call those morons. (07:02) Today, Uncle Bobby, your question is, I have a simple issue with my bill, but I've been stuck with the customer service chatbot for almost half an hour. It keeps apologizing and sending articles that I've already read, and I can't get a real person. (07:19) What do I do? Well, first of all, you are not talking to customer service. You're talking to a padded room made out of apologies, and that bot is not there to solve your bill. It's there to make you tired. (07:35) It's a system designed where quitting counts as a resolved ticket. You hang up, they went. You take a nap, they went. You die of old age mid-chat, the email, your estate, and an article titled, How to Update Payment Methods. (07:53) See, back in the civilized era, there was a phone number on the back of the bill, and a person picked up. You know, not a saint, not a genius, just a human being with lungs. Now you get this polite stone wall that keeps saying your satisfaction is their top priority ignoring you like it's training for the Olympics, right? (08:16) So here's what you do, okay? You have to stop treating it like help. You treat it like a hostage negotiation where the hostage is your afternoon. You become a scholar of its little trigger phrases, not because you should have to, because the company decided the only way to access a human You say the magic spell like you're opening a cursed tomb. (08:41) You learn the words that make it panic. Billing dispute. Fraud. Cancel service. Supervisor. Representative. Then you teach those words to strangers in grocery lines Then you teach those words to strangers in grocery lines like you're passing along wartime rations. (09:01) See, and when it asks again if there's anything else that it can help with, you answer with discipline. Yes, you can help by transferring me to a person who can help. Then you rotate every interaction one star. (09:16) Not a sentence. An essay. Three paragraphs. Footnotes. Make them store your rage in their database forever. If they want to replace humans with a wall, fine. You become the ivy. You grow until the whole thing cracks. (09:34) All right, there's your advice this morning, horse zero-button sage. Again, what a name. That's certainly a name. If you missed any of the... I don't know why you picked it. I didn't pick it. Yeah, whatever. All right, anyway. Hey, if you missed any of the past Ask Uncle Bobby episodes, you can find them all online at thebteamshow.com or if you'd like to see the past episodes maybe get your own Do Bob merch. (09:57) Put Uncle Bobby's face on your chest. Yeah, you could do that by checking it out at dewbob.com. D-E-W-B-O-B-D-O-T-C-O-M. That's right. It's Ask Uncle Bobby. Weekday mornings around 745 on the B Team Morning Show. Local news next. (10:14) Your Omni Broadcasting News is brought to you by McCaskill & Company, the Emerald Coast's finest jeweler. I'm Dan Diamond. 100.3 KROCK, the classic rock station. It is a Tuesday morning and Mr. Ted Corcoran has left the building. (10:30) You know, it's a new thing I'm trying to get used to with Ted that the mics go live and he runs out. Usually he's like a moth to a flame. Yeah. I don't know. It's like Ted Repellent these days. I don't know what changed. I don't know. He like breaks out in hives. (10:45) I don't know. I hope it wasn't me picking on him. Because he has a thing for going on Dan Diamond's show on 94.3 when the mics open. But when it comes on to 100.3 KROCK on the B Team show and the mics open, he disperses. (11:01) I think it's you. No, I don't think so. Yeah, I do. I think it's you. No. I think it's you. People love me. I'm the nicest frickin' person they know. See, even Rochelle's laughing. Rochelle, I need you to laugh into the mic. (11:19) Thank you. Oh, that was so forced. She was just trying to make you feel good. Thank you. Very good. Very good. Hey, so Ted did leave, but Rochelle Graves and Cindy Barry are here this morning. Rochelle from The Chamber and Cindy from Okaloosa Gas to talk about dog days. (11:39) Yeah. Woof, woof. We can't wait. That was rough. Oh. I'll give you that one. We don't bark as good as the dogs. I'll give you that one. That was rough. Go ahead. Sit. Go, go, go. (11:54) No, sit. You want my paw? Do you want my paw? Who wants the high chair? She needs a treat. Here's a milk bone. You gotta give it clicker. Ouch. All right, Cindy. I know this is one of your favorite events that Okaloosa Gas is a part of every single year. (12:11) It's the Fort Walton Beach Chamber Dog Days event down at the Landing. It comes up Saturday morning, and we were just chatting with Rochelle a few minutes ago. This is going to be a big one. Yes, sir, it is. Yeah. We are excited. We're ready. (12:26) We're packing our doggy bags this week. No pun intended either. We're going to have our booth. It's going to be the Gryffindor house for our Harry Potter theme. We're going to bring wizardly magic to all the dogs that stop by. (12:42) All right. Do you have your wand? Yogi will. Oh, good. Yogi the dog. All right. What kind of dog is Yogi? He's a doggy de Bordeaux, which is also known as a French Mastiff. If you've seen Turner and Hooch, he is a French Mastiff. (12:57) Clifford. If you've seen the Okaloosa gas billboards, you've seen Yogi. He likes natural gas, and he cannot lie. Well, most dogs do. I mean, Schuyler's especially. I think they were talking about something different. (13:13) Oh, the other type of gas. I figured it was natural sponsorship. The one you could cook with. The methane. The methane. The methane. The methane. The methane. Oh, it's methane. (13:28) Well, this has gone off the rails. Doesn't dog day sound fun? All right, so it comes up Saturday, 9-3, down at the Landing. But, Rochelle, you have gotten a ton of vendors this weekend. (13:46) Yeah, so we're super excited. We have 50 vendors. 55-0. Yeah, so with the Landing Park being completed after a couple years of renovations, I think people are just eager to come and see the park. (14:01) Of course, people are eager to come and see the dogs. We've got some food trucks, a surprise. We've got Sonic coming out to do corn dogs. Really? Yeah. We've got the Harry Potter theme, so we've got Butterbeer. (14:17) Y'all, Sox, the cat rescue, is going to have Butterbeer. Because they want to be a part of the day. So, yeah, it's going to be super fun, like you said, 9-3 at the Landing down on Brooks Street this Saturday. Well, I know where Bobby's wife, Kathy, will be, because I've never seen somebody love Sonic so much. (14:34) Yeah, that's true. That's true. Yeah, everyone I talk to is like, what? They come out? They'll work an event? Yes. I didn't know. Yes, I'm so excited. Learning for the first time this morning, folks. You've got to know the secret combo of how to ask. (14:49) We're still telling them about the yoga. Oh, yeah. Oh, my gosh. There's a lot of cool things going on this year. So, Floatay Experience and 850 Social Babes is going to come out and do Pilates with your pup. (15:05) So, they're going to be on the stage doing the instructions, the different moves. I'm thinking about Bobby doing this. Yeah. Right? No, I'm just thinking that makes Downward Dog totally different. Right? Exactly. Maybe your pup is into yoga or Pilates. (15:20) Maybe they're just laying there with you, but we're excited to bring that. That's different. Yeah, Desiree that is the curator of Floatay Experience is the same lady that does Pilates with the dolphins at the Golfarium. (15:36) Oh. Oh, wow. So, has she ever done an event like this with dogs? Yeah. Not in the same capacity because sometimes people will do like the Pilates with puppies where you're in a confined space and there's puppies running around. (15:52) This is Pilates with your pup. So, we do hope that you'll abide by the city rules and have your dog on leash. State laws that they're up to date on the rabies vaccine, but it'll be at the open park. So, hopefully your dog will just lay there or do Downward Dog and enjoy the morning exercise and experience. (16:15) And we are going to cross our fingers for cooperative weather this weekend, right? Please, baby Jesus, don't. Now. Rain out dog days. There may be an option to move if the weather is not cooperative. (16:32) Are we looking at maybe a potential backup date? I do have a rain date. I'm not going to say it. I'm not going to put it out there. I'm a firm believer of let's just stay positive, y'all. We're in North Florida. If we based every event off what the rain says a week out, we'd be in serious trouble. (16:51) So, we'll probably be looking at making the call. My plan is to make that call Friday afternoon. Okay. I am waiting to coordinate that with the sponsors. Of course, Friendship Vet. Carter and his whole team over there. (17:07) How they feel about the overall safety for the dogs in attendance is the most critical piece of dog days. All right. Well, we're going to cross our fingers. It could certainly happen this weekend. We hope it does. Nine to three scheduled down at the landing. (17:23) It's dog days. And how many years have you been doing dog days at the Chamber? This is my 15th. I believe the Chamber's had it for 20. And Valerie Wentzel and Laura Melendez, I think they had it before that. (17:38) So, dog days has been on the books in downtown Fort Walton Beach, I can say easily 30 years. Wow. So, you've been at the Chamber 15. I didn't even know there was a Chamber 15 before Rochelle. I thought she was the Chamber. There was, but the events looked a little different. (17:55) Oh, not as fun. But I've been attending dog days. I've been attending dog days for the past 20 years myself. Have you really? As a participant. Every year? Yes. And you've brought a dog every single year, I'm sure, too. (18:12) Legend dogs. Cindy even brings dogs to the office. I have. I have. How about that new beautiful building? Has Yogi been to the new district building? No, sir, he hasn't. Well, it's time to break it in. (18:27) Time to break it in. She can't say that on air. I did. She'll talk to you at the break. You're going to get me in trouble. No, he has not been there at all. Wink, wink. Alkalosa Gas loves Yogi. (18:42) They do. They do. He's an influencer. If you've seen him on the billboards, he is an influencer. He is welcome in the office any time, I'm sure. He doesn't do much. That's redundant with influencer. (18:57) He lays and snores. Do you know what the definition of the original influencer is? Radio host. Oh, my God. Okay. I don't believe that. Don't do a lot. (19:12) Yeah. Do we? Bobby, come on. Not as much as we used to. Schuyler, you do a lot. Well, don't miss it this Saturday out at the landing. Dog days. It's going to be a great event. (19:28) Greater Fort Walt Beach Chamber of Commerce and Rochelle always work so hard to put it together. I know Cindy and Alkalosa Gas is always a big part of it as well. Thank you all for this great event for our community. We've got all the details online at thebteamshow.com if you click on the events tab. (19:44) Thanks for having us over, guys. Sure thing. Anytime. Anytime. And then, of course, first Friday coffee this Friday as well. That's right. That's coming up. Bobby and Dan Diamond will be there. I'll be out there with Dan the man. I will not be there. Diamond Dan. No, because you suck. (19:59) I'm going to be out of town, but sure, let's just tell everybody I just suck. Good friends. Might as well. Only a friend can tell you that. Trusted acquaintance. There's a Grateful Dead on the 100.3 KROCK. (20:16) Touch of gray on this Tuesday morning. No gray skies outside. Beautiful sunshine and high this afternoon, climbing all the way up to 88. Drier air to start the week, so we have been getting some cooler, seasonal, fall-like overnight lows the last few nights. (20:40) It's been nice and crisp each morning when we've gotten here. Bobby, Florida regulators have ordered an immediate halt to an allegedly unlicensed insurance operation that targeted water sports businesses in the Destin area. (20:57) While two Okaloosa County men have been arrested in connection with the case, according to state regulators, Christopher Jason Brossette and Brady Allen Howard operated under several business names, offered insurance quotes, collected premiums, issued policy documents, and entered into insurance contracts without the required authorization. (21:19) Now, officials allege the operation collected more than $100,000 in premiums and that the funds were diverted for personal use, while some claims reportedly went unpaid. Brossette was arrested in June on charges including grand theft and conducting insurance business without authorization, while Howard was arrested in July for allegedly conspiring with Brossette on the operation. (21:42) So anyway, that just kind of hit news here the last 24 hours or so. Yeah, yeah. All right, well, stay with us. We've got a few more stories to get to as we work through the back half of the 8 o'clock hour. The B Team Morning Show's on the air, brought to you by Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, Okaloosa Gas at Outkast Sushi in Miramar Beach on 100.3 KROCK. (22:06) Queen and Fat Bottom Girls on the Classic Rock Station, 100.3 KROCK. It's 845. B Team Morning Show's on the air. Bobby, Congress actually did something. Well, the Senate. Yeah, the Senate. Oh, the Senate, okay. (22:21) Yeah, last night voted 77-22 to put federal guardrails around college sports. Now, players are still going to get NIL money and revenue sharing and all that, but the NCAA will actually regain some authority to regulate pay-for-play deals. (22:39) Now, this includes transfers and eligibility. You basically get one free transfer, five years of eligibility, and national rules instead of the current kind of patchwork that it is. Now, in exchange, the NCAA gets limited protection from antitrust lawsuits, and that's kind of where it's the controversial part. (23:00) But it did pass the Senate overwhelmingly. Trump supports it, but it's got a much tougher road in the House. Okay. Well, it'll be interesting to see what the House does. I know that this was a big thing, very important to President Trump. (23:15) Senate took care of business, and I think Nick Saban was a big part of that as well. He was part of that panel that kind of put together some of this legislation. Well, I mean, the major controversy in it is the antitrust protection because opponents, including pretty much Democrats, labor groups, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the NAACP, argue that Congress would be giving the NCAA too much power to restrict athlete compensation and bargaining rights. (23:47) But really, the support side of it argues that the NCAA can't establish a meaningful national rule if virtually every rule is immediately producing another antitrust lawsuit. Right? Yeah. So you've got to do something there. (24:04) But yeah, so put some brakes on the transfer portal. Generally, an athlete gets one transfer without penalty. Not six. Right. A second transfer could mean either sitting out a season, with the exception of if there was a coaching change, a sport being eliminated, or certain hardship situations. (24:24) Right. And to be honest with you, I don't even think a coaching change should qualify. I mean, for you to transfer. But that's been there forever and a day. Right. But it essentially restores the five-year eligibility window for college sports. (24:41) And there are a lot of player protections here too. Schools generally couldn't pull a scholarship because somebody gets hurt, underperforms, or loses a roster spot. Division I athletes would receive five years of coverage for sports-related out-of-pocket medical expenses. (24:57) And former players would generally have up to 10 years to return and finish their degree with scholarship assistance. Interesting. Yeah. All right. Well, at least they're doing something. (25:12) Better than the Wild West that we've got right now. I'll be anxious to see if the house moves on through it all. We're getting out of here. Well, and moving into the Encore Hour in just a bit. (25:27) Tom Petty, change of heart on the Classic Rock Station 100.3 KROCK. It is time for us to wrap up the B Team Morning Show and move into something totally different. The B Team Encore Hour. That's right. A whole different ballgame right there. (25:43) You won't even recognize the hosts. Not even. Nope. Totally, totally change. You'll be like, wait, wait, what? Now the hosts aren't changing for the rest of the week. It'll be Bobby and Tom. And then on Friday, for the First Friday Coffee Remote, it'll be Bobby and Tom and Dan Diamond. (26:00) Yeah. So there you go. I will be back on the air with you all next Wednesday. All right. But hope you all have a great week. If you missed anything we talked about this morning, we've got it all online for you at our website, thebteamshow.com. Local news and events, national holidays, your daily Ask Uncle Bobby feature, the show on demand, and so much more, all at thebteamshow.com. (26:21) I want to thank our sponsors, including Stripes Pub & Grill in Navarre, as well as Okaloosa Gas, and OutKast Sushi in Miramar Beach. I'm Schuyler Black. Bobby Durrell, why don't you get us on out? Hey, folks. Thanks for joining the B Team Morning Show, your leading alternative quality programming right here on the Emerald Coast. (26:37) Now, we know you have a choice in what you listen to each and every day. We appreciate the fact that you settled in on this wild ride that we call a morning show. But it's come that time of day. We've got to mosey on out of here. So you keep on rocking, keep on rolling. Never settle for the ordinary. Until the next time, the B Team is out. Your Omni Broadcasting News is brought to you by McCaskill & Company, the Emerald Coast's finest jeweler. (26:57) I'm Dan Diamond. It was a busy night on Friday night for firefighters in Walton County. Crews responded to two structure fires overnight, including a camper fire on Caswell Road and a house fire on Howell Road. The camper fire was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. (27:12) Crews worked to keep the flames from spreading to two nearby structures. Fortunately, the resident made it out safely and no injuries were reported. The second fire on Howell Road, started in the kitchen, was quickly contained, keeping the flames from causing extensive damage to the home. (27:27) Everyone made it out safely, including the resident's pet monkey. Yes, a monkey. No one was injured, not even the monkey. The City of Fort Walton Beach has a special meeting scheduled for 5-0-1, Tuesday night, September 29th, at City Hall to discuss the budget and millage rate. (27:45) And that is your Omni Broadcasting News, sponsored by McCaskill & Company. I'm Dan Diamond. Deep Purple on 100.3 KROCK, the classic rock station. Good morning, everybody. Welcome to it. It is Tuesday, and this is the B Team Encore Hour. (28:03) Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell. Last hour, Bobby, we had Rochelle and Cindy Yen to talk about dog days that's happening this Saturday down at the Landing. It starts at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. She's got 50 vendors lined up for Saturday. (28:21) And that's an event that generally has 20, 25, maybe 30. But she's got 50 vendors lined up for Saturday down at Dog Days. So she's worked hard at it, and hopefully the weather's cooperative for the weekend. If not, we'll figure out an alternate date. (28:38) But right now, everything's planned to move forward Saturday morning down at the Landing for Dog Days. All right. It's your final hour to be with me this week. Aw. Didn't seem very genuine. (28:53) Aw. It was even worse. Why am I not surprised? I don't know. Yeah. It's the B Team Encore Hour. And we've got a few more events to get to here in just a bit. Right now. (29:08) And that's a wrap on today's B Team Redux.
