**Do Something Nice Day: When Basic Decency Needs a Calendar Reminder Like a Dentist Appointment**

Description

We butchered a sponsor read, hiccupped through capsaicin-fueled indigestion, and watched half the Emerald Coast flood while Superior Construction tried to pump out a retention pond faster than Mother Nature could refill it—because when the weather's a disaster and the traffic's worse, all you can do is crack wise and hope nobody notices you're winging it.

Show Notes

Schuyler Black and Bobby Dewrell bring you The B Team Morning Show on 100.3 KROCK, your classic rock station broadcasting from Fort Walton Beach on Florida's Emerald Coast. Today, though, it's just Bobby and bench warmer extraordinaire Tom Mason holding down the fort—because Schuyler's up in Iowa being a mama's boy. We kicked things off with Emerson, Lake & Palmer and a rainy Monday morning that refuses to quit. Bobby nearly botched the sponsor read (it's Okaloosa Gas, not "Natural Gas," folks), but we're taking the wins where we can. It's Do Something Nice Day, which apparently needed a calendar reminder like basic decency is a limited-time offer. Also: National Blue Shirt Day, because nothing says community like turning your wardrobe into a participation trophy. Bobby showed up in full Florida regalia—checkerboard Vans, faded jeans, blue Hawaiian shirt—looking like he should be living in a trailer park. We're not mad about it.

Weather's a mess, folks. Showers, thunderstorms, and the kind of rain that makes you question your life choices. We're under a flood watch until noon, moderate rip currents at the beach, and small craft advisory through the week. Temps hovering around 82°F, but with 87% cloud cover and winds gusting out of the northeast, it's a stay-inside-with-a-jacket kind of day. Bobby McBride, one of our roving school bus drivers, called in to report flooding near Brooks Bridge and traffic backed up at Eglin and Highway 98. Superior Construction is on the scene pumping out their holding pond—mother nature got ahead of them this morning, but they're doing what they can. If you're out there, slow down, keep your eyes on the road, and for the love of God, don't hydroplane at 60 mph like the jack wagon Bobby saw on Beal Parkway.

We also celebrated National Chic Spy Day (not "chick," you animals—French spelling), where grown adults dress like they're being hunted by a European government and post their "secret missions" on Instagram. Bobby regaled us with tales of his consulting days in Eastern Europe, when everyone was convinced he was CIA. Spoiler: he wasn't. Or was he? You can't prove a negative. We also hit National Get Funky Day, which is your annual reminder that your body is not a spreadsheet and your soul's been in a waiting room since February. Move like nobody's filming, dress like you lost a bet in 1978, and let the bassline negotiate your dignity down to a manageable monthly payment. Oh, and it's Bobby's birthday today—no fuss, just quiet compliance and immediate acknowledgment. Tom almost forgot, but Schuyler reminded him. Schuyler: the real MVP.

Ask Uncle Bobby tackled a listener dilemma: Candace No Fussington told everyone not to make a big deal about her birthday, and now she's worried nobody will acknowledge it. Bobby's advice? You issued a trap. What you really meant was "make a big deal, but tastefully." Issue a birthday specification sheet: one card, no singing, cake delivered silently like a diplomatic pouch. Candles banned. Violators lose signing privileges for the quarter. Audit who remembered without a reminder and grade them privately—like the IRS of affection. A little fuss is nice; it means you didn't die this year. Also, happy birthday to Bobby. We didn't make a fuss. Much. In other news, Garner's Park in Fort Walton Beach is closed due to bacteria in the water—shocking exactly no one. Enterococcus levels are off the charts, probably thanks to old septic tanks and a stormwater drain right next to the beach. Yeah, it's poop in the water. Meanwhile, Emerald Coast PBS launches November 1st in Pensacola after losing federal funding earlier this year. And in feel-good news, a family from Portsmouth, England, brought their 15-month-old son Navar back to the Florida town that inspired his name. Poor kid. Could be worse, though—could be named after a gas station.

Big thanks to our sponsors: Okaloosa Gas, Stripes Pub & Grill out in Navarre Beach, and OutKast Sushi in Miramar Beach. You keep us on the air, and we keep you entertained—or at least mildly distracted from the existential dread of a Monday morning. Stay safe out there, Emerald Coast. Keep your eyes on the road, your hands on the wheel, and your expectations low. We'll see you on the flip side—or whenever Schuyler decides to come back from Iowa. Until then, keep on rocking, keep on rolling, and never settle for the ordinary. The B Team is out.

(00:00) Here's today's B Team Redux. Emerson, Lake and Palmer right here. 100.3 KROCK, the classic rock station. You're listening to the B Team Morning Show brought to you in part by our friends over at Okaloosa Natural Gas, Outkast Sushi and Stripes Pub and Grill out in Navarre Beach. (00:15) That was Emerson, Lake and Palmer with, uh, from the beginning, just nice, nice little mellow tune on a rainy Monday morning. Not, not to be picky, Bobby, but is it Okaloosa Natural, Natural Gas? Yeah. What did I say? Okaloosa Natural Gas. Yeah. Is it Okaloosa Gas? (00:31) Oh yeah. Not to be picky. I mean, I'm not going to pick at things today. I'm not going to be like that. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, you know, I just start things off, right? I'm here. You know what? (00:47) And that, that's what we need to celebrate is, is, is I'm here. It is. Yeah. Yeah. Let's look at the positive things, right? We're going to take the wins where we take the wins today, Tom. That's all right. I almost started off with my microphone on the other side of the table. Yeah. Yeah. It's, uh, it's definitely a Monday morning. (01:04) Definitely a Monday morning. Sunrise around 6 41 AM this morning. Uh, probably not going to see it probably based on, based on what the, uh, the radar showing us, although we might, uh, we might get a little clearing coming up here pretty soon, but, uh, yeah, we're here where we're, we're, we're predicted to be at about 87% cloud cover. (01:22) So for, for the 90 minutes past, so it's going to be there. Okay. All right. Yeah. Uh, you know, beach today, we got a moderate rip current. Uh, if you're going to go out there, why some people like being at the beach in the rain? I do. That's right. (01:37) Not necessarily in the water. Yeah. UV is probably going to peak today somewhere around, uh, let's see, it looks like it's going to peak somewhere today around, uh, Oh, maybe around 10 AM. Okay. So about a one and then peak again, about five. (01:53) Okay. It'll be at one. I was going to say, what's it going to be at 0.1. Yeah. One. I don't think they, I don't think they scored any, any far. Well, uh, small craft advisory says a small craft should exercise caution tonight. There's going to be a light Northwest wind flow developing today with numerous, uh, to, uh, wind speech or widespread showers and storms capable of producing locally higher winds in areas. (02:17) So Northwest, uh, or Northeast flow increases to moderate tonight and strong on Tuesday. So that small craft advisory is in effect starting, uh, today, uh, through, um, through the end of the week, actually, uh, season four to seven feet starting on Saturday. So it's going to be, it's going to be a little bit out there. (02:34) Um, I think we're under a flood watch until till seven o'clock tonight. I saw that. Or actually, no, they've, they've downgraded it till noon. But rip current is, is up, uh, under statement until seven o'clock tonight. So folks, it's just going to be one of those weather days, man. (02:49) I don't, I don't know what to tell you. There's a, it's got, it's, I'm looking at the radar, there's rain. And then when the rain passes, there's going to be more rain. Okay. Well, so how do you combat that Bobby? Well, you stay inside, stay inside jacket. And the other, the other thing you can do is you can do something nice today. (03:06) Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Guess what? Uh huh. Today is do something nice day. Well, there you go. We, we should, we should have had a day like that. Yeah. Yeah. It is, uh, because apparently basic decency needed a calendar reminder, like it's a dentist appointment. (03:23) Nobody asked for. Yeah, yeah. So, uh, so do something nice day. Is that annual reminder that basic decency isn't supposed to be a limited time offer, but here we are slapping a date on it, like it's pumpkin spice latte. (03:39) The idea is simple. Do one small and assess unnecessary good thing for somebody and try not to treat it like it's a down payment on future forgiveness, hold a door, tip extra, call your mother, let someone merge without turning into turning it into a morality play. (03:56) And if you're already nice every day, congratulations, you're either lying, selling something, or you've achieved a level of emotional stability that the rest of us can only study from a safe distance. Well, you know, all of that just sounds like too much for me. I'm going to be honest, just going to let the cloud cover, take care of everything. (04:15) Yeah, I'm just too much. I'm going to be nice by not being present. Okay. How's that? Yeah. Yeah. Fair enough. That's, that's, that's the day I'm going to give you people. Fair enough. So, all right. We're at 10 minutes after six. We've got a heart and a Barracuda, the classic rock station brought to you by our friends over at Okaloosa gas stripes up and grill and outcast sushi out in Miramar beach. (04:41) It's the fifth of Bob Tober. And well, we're just, we're just sitting around here enjoying the rain. Yeah, we are. It's actually, it's actually kind of mellow. Yeah. It really does kind of mellow things out when it's raining like this. Yeah. It would probably help if I had had any sleep last night. (05:00) So yeah, yeah. I'm a little tired. Okay. You know, I used to come in and do the show feeling like this, but you know, I'd been out drinking and partying and everything else. And yeah, this sucks. So what you're saying is you regret not drinking and partying last night. (05:18) I mean, hell, if I'm going to, if I'm going to have the hangover, I want to earn it. Exactly. Should be a reason for it. Oh man. Crossing 50 just sucks every way. Jeez. Yeah. Well, wait till you cross 60. It gets even worse. You know, I don't know, man. (05:36) It's, I'll be saying the same thing when I crossed 200 because God doesn't want me in the devil took out his training order. So there we go. Oh man. Uh, yeah. So, uh, you know, folks, it's, uh, it's going to be rainy all day today. That's, that's just what it's going to be. And actually it's going to be raining all day tomorrow. (05:53) Yeah. And then Wednesday it's going to be rainy. And then Thursday for a change of pace, it's going to be rainy. Is it just going to keep going all week? Is that what the forecast is? Yeah. Right. Right now. The four, well, you know, this is Florida. So if you don't like the forecast, wait five minutes. Right. Right. But yeah. Right. Right now the forecast has it. (06:09) Uh, I think we've got to get to, uh, well, we only got, we only got a 46% chance of rain tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday. We're at six Friday. We're back up at 44. And then next weekend we're at 79 and 76%. (06:26) Okay. So if I'm going to mow the lawn tomorrow, it's probably my best Wednesday. It looks like Wednesday. That's six Wednesday and Thursday at 6%. That's your days. Okay. Now, uh, actually, no, I take that back. Saturday is going to be the coldest day. So we're only going to hit 82 today. So nice fall weather settled in. (06:42) Okay. And Saturday is the low right now for the week at 80, but Tuesday will be 81. Now the great thing for you, Wednesday, Thursday, 84, 85 degrees, hottest two days of the week. Really? Yeah. So that's really when you should cut the grass. I don't mind it. Anything, anything other than the 300 degrees that we had a couple of weeks ago is, uh, is acceptable, right? (07:01) Exactly. And, uh, well, I guess the bigger question is what about the humidity? Oh, it's going to be there. Okay. Yeah. I don't, I, you know what, I, I don't have dew point bringing in. So I don't, I don't know what the, what the humidity is going to be, but my guess is it's going to, it's going to be up there. Yeah. Cause the temperatures, the temperature is bearable with me. (07:17) And it's that humidity that just beats it, beats you up. It does. Yeah, it really does. Yeah, folks today, it's going to be showers and thunderstorms and, uh, you know, some of the, some, I always, I always love this stuff that they put in here, showers and thunderstorms today. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. (07:33) Okay. Isn't that what thunderstorms are? Yeah. Yeah. And then mostly cloudy. Well, if it's going to be showering and thunderstorming and that anyway, uh, high near 82 North, uh, East winds, five to 10 miles an hour. Chance of precipitation is 80% all day, but right now it's, it's, it's a hundred percent new rainfall amounts are going to be between one and two inches today. (07:53) Okay. So, well, there you go. Keep that out. I, you know, I always love the, just the brilliant stuff they put in all this stuff. Yeah. So anyway, showers and thunderstorms, some could produce heavy rain. It's going to be mostly cloudy too. Brilliant. (08:09) Oh man. All right, Tom, what's going over in your world? Oh man, it's, uh, you know, it's going to be, it's going to be, it's going to be Oh man. It's, uh, you know, we had a, we had a busy weekend, came back here and, uh, get up early this morning, man. (08:26) I, I, I did like you, I, but kind of the opposite. I woke up about two 30 and there was just no going back to sleep. I laid there and tossed and turned finally about four o'clock. I said, uh, I'm getting up. Yeah. Yeah. I, uh, yeah, I, I wide awake finally kind of just forced my bed to sort itself to go to bed at like 1130. (08:46) Yeah. Then late awaken in bed for forever. I think I dozed off maybe, maybe for like an hour, right. Then, then two 30 wide awake, three 30 wide awake, four o'clock. Um, I must have somewhere between three 30 and four o'clock. (09:03) I know I does back off because my alarm goes off at four 30 and I mean, I just, I had just started getting into like a really good dream, right? And the alarm went off and I mean, I woke up and, and the words out of my, my mouth were, of course, usually when it happens, man, right before you got to wake up. (09:22) Of course. Yeah. So now the next thing that's going to happen is here about seven 30. I'm just going to just, yeah. It's all great. Yeah. Hey, uh, we got another, uh, another, another holiday, another holiday. (09:37) National blue shirt day. Oh, well, there you go. Yeah. Because nothing says meaningful celebration, like turning your wardrobe into a participation trophy and calling it a holiday. Well, that's exactly what I did. You certainly did. You wearing a blue shirt today, Bobby. (09:53) It's a blue Hawaiian shirt. So I feel like I at least went, uh, I'm going festive. Yeah. Yeah. Well, Blue Shirt Day is that proud little holiday where we all pretend a piece of fabric is a personality, slap on anything remotely blue, and call it community. (10:10) There's no ancient legend, no sacred ritual, just a collective agreement to look like we got dressed in the dark at a department store and decided that was a statement. People celebrate by complimenting each other's shade like they're sommeliers of laundry. (10:30) And somehow it turns into a whole thing. Photos, hashtags, forced camaraderie, the works. It's harmless, it's ridiculous, and it's exactly the kind of modern tradition that starts as a joke and ends up on your office calendar forever. (10:45) I feel like I dressed very much Florida today. I mean, I got on my checkerboard Vans, I got on my faded out blue jeans, and I got on my blue Hawaiian shirt. I don't know if the blue jeans fit, though. You know, it's Florida. Maybe shorts. (11:02) No, no, no. This time of year, if you hit Lauderdale and down around that area, get all Central, South Florida, everybody's kind of running jeans. I guess below 90, you put jeans on. Because it's cold. Well, and that's how you look business professional, right? (11:19) I'm not wearing shorts. I'm wearing jeans. I feel very, very old Florida. I feel like I should be living in a trailer park right now. Well, I tell you, one of the bad parts about the rainy weather like this is everybody's got their air conditioner down low. (11:35) So you go into a restaurant or you go into a place and it's freezing cold in there. And you've just walked from your car through the parking lot. You're soaking wet. And now you got to walk into this freezing cold restaurant or whatever. It's like, man, I need a jacket. (11:52) I was telling somebody not too long ago. I don't know what it is, but it was one of those things like growing up. I just I always remember if it was raining outside, you wore jeans. Yeah, period. I don't know why. I mean, I just that was that was kind of the rule. (12:07) And that's what I mean. Even everybody at school, it was the same way. It was raining. It was raining outside. So our parents, you know, oh, you don't wear shorts when it's raining outside. Okay. I don't know why. Now they wear hoodies. Yeah. Even if it's 90 degrees. Yeah. I don't know why, but if it was raining, you know, jeans. (12:23) Yeah. Okay. Yeah. You don't wear shorts to the skating rink either. You wear jeans. What if you fell? Shorts to the skating rink either. You wear jeans. What if you fell? You get a rash. Yeah. Yeah. So it's still to this day. If somebody's like, hey, you want to go skating? I'm like, yeah, I gotta go put on jeans. (12:40) So anyway. All right, folks, stick around. We've got we had scandal cream, Bob Seger and more all coming up. Plus some words from Dan Diamond. All after this. Hey, it's the Ramones with what I like about you right here on 100.3 KROCK. (12:56) The classic rock station. You're listening to The B Team morning show brought to you by friends over at Okaloosa gas and stripes. Grill and outcast sushi out in Miramar Beach. I'm Bobby Durrelson over here on Mike one. Mike two. We got Tom Mason. Bench warmer. That's right. Bench warmer. (13:11) One. Yeah. Although, you know, you might you might hear McPherson try to say he's he's a bench warmer. One. No, I got things to say about that. Hey, speaking about our roving bench warmers or speaking about bench warmers in general. We've got main man Bobby McBride out there driving the streets this morning. (13:29) One of our one of our handy dandy little bus drivers driving a school bus. That's right. He's he's reporting in that. We've got some flooded spots on on on near Brooks Bridge. So in traffic down on on both Highway 98 and said he was sitting through his sixth cycle of the light at Eglin and Highway 98. (13:49) So sounds like things are backed up. There's a little bit of flash flooding out there and a little bit of drainage issues that we know we've had. But, you know, they've been working on Eglin all the way down from Shalimar to 98 for how long now? What time? (14:04) What time of the day do they do that? Two to two thirty in the morning. Yeah, I haven't. Look, all I know is I got Shalimar done. And then it's like they quit Shalimar done. And then like the weirdest patches after you cross the Shalimar Bridge between the bridge and like the racetrack road interchange. (14:20) And then that was it. And well, and then they've got south of south of racetrack. They got, I think, lanes one and two, you know, on the southbound side, just partially done, you know, here and there. So I can't figure it out. Well, first of all, I can't figure out what their approach was when they started doing it. (14:37) Yeah. Of how patchy they did it. Yeah. But but then all of a sudden they just they got they got like all of all of Shalimar done. And I was like, OK, whatever. Somebody must know somebody. Wow. Yeah. (14:53) So anyway, there we go. OK, there we go. So, hey, thanks to for Bobby. Bobby reporting in to us and letting us know what it is. So, yeah, you'll do be safe out there. Look, it's it's raining. It's going to rain all morning. We've got kids trying to get to school. (15:09) We got traffic picked up. I'm sure there's a bunch of parents, you know, so I haven't figured it out. They let Johnny catch a school bus every day. But now it's raining. We're going to drive him to school. Bottle things up even worse. So, yeah. (15:24) So y'all, y'all be careful out there. And remember, let's keep everyone safe. Keep your eyes on the road. Slow it down a little bit. No, no, no need to go flying like the jack wagon. I just saw fly by at, you know, 60 miles an hour on Beale Parkway. Yeah. Slow down. (15:39) Slow down for it. Yeah. Yeah. Just cause the problems. You start, you start hydroplaning at what, like 15 miles an hour. Something like that. It's a real slow number. Yeah. We'll go find out afterwards. Right. In the magic bus. Yeah. We'll take the magic bus. Why not? (15:54) I think I can do some donuts with that thing. I think that'd be awesome. Yeah. Hey, Bobby, we got another national holiday today. Which one we got today? Today is National Chic Spy Day. Oh, wow. There you go. As opposed to National Chick Spy Day, which is a different day. Yeah. (16:09) This is chic. You had to look it up. There's no K on the end of this. So it's chic spy day. Jeff, you looked it up, didn't you? Well, I just, I was like, huh? It's the French spelling. Yeah. Like that. Whatever sommelier word you threw on me. Right. Sommelier. Sommelier. Yeah. (16:24) Chic Spy Day, because nothing says covert operation like a trench coat, designer sunglasses, and posting your secret mission on Instagram. There you go. You know, you gotta love it. Because Chic Spy Day is that precious little holiday where grown adults dress like they're being hunted by a European government and then act shocked when someone asks if they're going through something. (16:46) You know, like you throw on sunglasses indoors, talk like every sentence is classified, and treat a coffee run like a, well, an extraction mission. Because nothing says self-care like pretending your errands have consequences. And the rules are simple. Look, look expensive, move suspiciously, and never admit you're just killing time between meetings that you could have been an email. (17:07) So, you know, it's absurd on purpose, which is the only honest thing most people will do all day. I like that. You know, I had a fun little stint when I was working with the one consulting firm and traveling internationally all the time. Yeah. (17:22) One of my big areas that I covered was Central Europe. Okay. Well, Eastern Europe, but what you find once you start going to Eastern Europe is they all want to say they're, you know, they're not really a part of Eastern Europe, they're Central Europe. Okay. Including the Ukraine. Yeah. And I'm like, guys, I don't know how to tell you this. (17:38) You don't get much more East than where you are. But I was back and forth over there all the time and it, and it seemed to always time out. Like I would go over there and then I would come back and then like a week or two later, something would happen or something would happen just as I was getting ready to go over there. (17:54) And so everybody got convinced I was in the CIA. Yeah. That's what I was doing. And I gotta tell you, there is, there's nothing crazier than when people get in their head that you're in the CIA. Yeah. There's absolutely nothing you can do. (18:10) No. To prove that you're not, you can't prove a negative. Right. Right. Because the more, the more you're like, not, not it. I'm just an it consultant. Oh yeah. I got you. Oh man. Like, oh, okay. I did. I mean, to the point it got to one of my kids. One of my, one of my sons went and asked another friend. They're like, um, so as my dad, like, is he, is he doing some pie? (18:37) Stuff. And of course the friends I keep. Yeah. That helped. And then you just want to play along. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. 100%. Yeah. I, I, I told, I told my wife the other day that, uh, that I'm putting in my will that she's got to hire. I want, I want 10 big Italian guys to come in all in black suits. (18:52) Yeah. Right. Black on black. To be your pallbearers. Right. Right. And I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I go before you, because if not, I'm I'm, I'm hiring the, uh, the biggest, most flamboyant transvestite I can to just cry like hell at your wedding front row have fun with it. (19:43) Itself into the casket. Yeah. I wouldn't care. My kids will laugh. The other thing I thought would be cool too, is you know, what I've, what I've, what I've threatened to do a few times is just, you know, dress all up in a suit, put on some dark stint. (19:59) Glasses went and just drive down to the to the funeral and just stand off in the distance like where everybody can see you But you're not there. You're not there, right? Just And then when it's over you just get in your car and drive, right? All right, we got yellow with with evil woman we've got the Allman Brothers revival some ZZ Top Bob Seger's That's a song going out to well every every ex-wife out there Wow Yep, good luck getting around town today. I Don't plan on going to a lot of places I'm certainly not gonna get pumpkin spice latte because I don't have my leggings out boots and sweater Well, good luck to you It's three minutes until 7 right here on 100.3 KROCK the classic rock station for the record Tom can say all they want to but he asked me to play that song for his ex-wife. I did. Yeah. Yeah Said she might be the mother of his kids, but the song summed her up. Oh All right folks we got we got so much more lined up for you, but we got one more holiday to get to Tom What is it there? We do Bobby and I got to be very careful about saying it is a national get funky day Yeah, because apparently we need a calendar reminder to dance badly and call it self-care I thought that's what weddings were for speaking of National get funky day is that annual reminder that your body is not in fact a spreadsheet and your soul's been sitting in a waiting Room since February look the rules are simple. You gotta move like nobody's filming dress like you lost a bet in 1978 and let the baseline negotiate your dignity down to a manageable monthly payment. No, it's not about being cool It's about being loud enough to drown out the part of your brain that keeps a color-coded Calendar for joy, and if you can't find the funk, don't worry Modern life hit it under your notifications and a suspicious amount of beige That's right, it's all about the beige okay, we got more coming your way, but right now. Here's a word from our sponsors Gary Livgren in Kansas right here on 100.3 KROCK the classic rock station you're listening to Bobby Dewrell Tom Mason We're the Bob and Tom guys. That's right the only Bob and Tom that matters in your life Listen in the B Team morning show right here 100 point the KROCK the classic rock station brought to you by The classic rock station brought to you by our sponsors over at Okaloosa gas stripes Pub and Grill and Outcast sushi out in Miramar Beach 77 degrees outside right now folks, and it's raining It is and not only is it raining. Hey, we've got some some breaking news for you So we do have flooding on Okaloosa Island right now so all eastbound traffic from Brooks Bridge is rerouted through the Convention Center and Westbound is down to one lane. So we do have some backups there if if you're in You know heading heading across Brooks Bridge on Highway 98 at anything this morning also We've got one northbound lane of Bill Parkway at Lewis Street is blocked due to a disabled vehicle So if you're out there on Bill Parkway heading northbound around Lewis keep your eye out For that disabled vehicle. We do want everyone to say stay safe right now So if you got any other traffic or weather updates, let us know but yeah folks It's gonna be it's gonna be coming down like this for for for from a hot minute or two. I read it earlier. I'll read it again just as they sent it to us from the national weather station at kvps That's showers and thunderstorms and some of the storms could produce heavy rain That's right. Mostly cloudy with a high near 82 northeast wind 5 to 10 miles per hour chance to participate Precipitation is 80 and new rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are possible today So it's going to be coming down all day we got winds out of the east northeast right now at 7 miles per hour and There is a small craft advisory I can't imagine why anyone would think to be in their boat right now, but if you are well God looks after people like you Sometimes in a good way because you're either a drunk or a fool sometimes or maybe just an idiot Yeah All right, we got george Thurgood and the destroyers with who do you love right now? (25:19) We'll get into our weather report and then we'll be back with uh with more We got to ask uncle Bobby coming up at 7 40, but right now it's about 10 minutes after 7 right here 100.3 KROCK the classic rock station George thurgood and the destroyers with who do you love right here on 100.3 KROCK the classic rock station Hey folks just breaking in again wanted to let you know I just got a call in from uh, andy reese over with superior construction talking to me about the what's happening over there on highway 98 He said that uh that holding pond that they got over there Just well mother nature got a hold of them this morning and got ahead of them Yeah, but he didn't want to let everybody know that they are doing everything they can to mitigate the situation They got one pump in there and they are pumping the water out just as fast as they can Got another about another pump inbound and they're going to be getting it there. So bear with them They are trying to get it there. But hey do be safe while you're out there. It's uh, it's been raining a lot overnight Yeah been raining a lot period. Yeah several days saturday. Yeah saturday afternoon The ground is soaked. It really can't take any more in so it's starting to pool and everything but uh, Hey big Thank you out there to uh indians the guys over at superior construction trying to get that done trying to get uh Flow of traffic back. Listen, if you've got any uh, any other traffic weather updates for us out there Feel free to give us a call in here at the station. That's 850-89-KROCK. That's 850-895-7625 We'd be love to uh love to take your information and uh Pass it along to everyone out there to uh, let them know what's going on. But uh, yep, uh highway 98 be careful It's uh traffic is slow. It's down It uh, it's a flooding situation, but uh superior construction's on the scene. Yeah, they're making it happen They're trying to do everything they can they're doing what they can so uh So that that does tell me to uh, hey be be careful because they've probably got some equipment out around there and while they're trying To get this done. So, uh, stay safe. Stay alert Keep your eye on the road and uh, and know that that people are aware of the problem. They're doing what they can karen. Yeah That is a construction zone, you know, so you gotta expect stuff like that to happen. Yeah. Yeah. All right Hey folks, we've got uh, we got a weather report and supports from our sponsors coming up right now and then we'll be back with uh, With led zeppelin rolling stones, i'm sure bob seeger's in there somewhere. All right, stick around don't go nowhere Stand by for more rock 100.3 KROCK With their uh acoustic version of here I go again on my own that song was uh requested and dedicated to me Yeah, yeah, it's all about uh, my journey here on the on the show when skylar's out Tom such a huge help here. I go again on my own. Yeah I Just show up I just show up unwrap my headphones and yeah sit here and wait for you to tell me what to do I you know, dan dan dan diamond over at 94.3 described it best. He's like, oh, yeah. I saw him over there He's he's just the color guy, right? Yeah That's me That's all you do you just provide color commentary and That's that's what we get you're looking for news Is that what you're trying to do trying to find some news over there we'll find some news out there You know, there's a little bit of news running around. Uh, but man, it was just kind of a it was a slow weekend. Yeah so, uh, you know just just uh Just is what it is. So well, it wasn't it wasn't totally slow. I mean there was there was a couple things happened Um, did you see do you see anything on the virginia tech? (28:39) Game this weekend. I know you were watching trying to watch some other ones Yeah, no, I mean the three games I wanted to watch were all the we're all the the exact same kickoff Yeah, I mean go figure so yeah well, uh, I guess it was a big uh big hubbub at the end of the virginia tech game where the uh, they tried to kick a field goal and um Apparently some people disagree with the officials on whether it was a good kick or a bad kick Yeah, so and I you know I I know from the angles all the I i've seen a ton of camera angles on that the kick went through It it actually cleared through the uprights But you're not standing there right underneath it where that official is and that makes a big difference now That's not to say they didn't get it wrong You know, I officiated baseball for years and years and I can tell you over the years. There are many calls that I missed Yeah, yeah, you know Oh, hey, i'm i'm, you know, listen, I will I it's it it's been uh, The better part of three decades since I called baseball yeah, and I I will tell you there there were a couple of times when I just Right when I made the call i'm like damn that was wrong You know just just give it a good old I was doing a playoff game with With a buddy of mine, and he was behind the plate. I was out in the B position out there. (30:06) And it was just him and I calling the game. And the pitcher threw the ball, and it was beautiful. And he didn't say anything. And I'm like, Tom, I'm standing out there thinking the game's over, you know? And he didn't call it. So I was like, oh man. And I could see the look on his face. (30:28) Darn, I missed that one. I missed that one big. And the next pitch went over the fence. And the other team won the game. And I'm like, ooh, we need to leave the field fast. Because they're going to kill us over that last call. Because that game was clearly over on the last pitch. And it didn't get called. And he knew it. But at that point, there's nothing you could do about it. Hey, I think it was the first or second game I ever called. And I lost the ball. (31:04) That's Genesis. And shout it out loud right here on 100.3 KROCK, your classic rock station. You're listening to Bobby and Tom on the B Team Morning Show. That's right. The only Bob and Tom that really matter. And well, you know, Tom, it's become that time of day. That magical time. (31:22) You know what that music tells us? Yes, I do know what that musical tell, music tells us. What does that music tell us, Tom? It tells us it's time for Uncle Bobby. That's right. It's time for Ask Uncle Bobby. The best, worst advice you never knew you wanted. Yeah. Well, Bobby, today, Candace No Fussington has a question for Ask Uncle Bobby. Okay. She says, Uncle Bobby, my birthday is Monday. I told people at home and at work not to make a big deal out of it. But now I'm either worried I get an awkward office spectacle or nobody acknowledges it at all. What do I do? Well, look, so you said the magic adult lie. Okay. You said, don't make a big deal. And that sentence, well, it's the social equivalent of cutting the brake lines and then acting surprised the car won't stop. So you don't give guidance. You issued a trap. Now everybody around you, they're trying to defuse a bomb with oven mitts on. Okay. Because here's what you really meant. You meant make a big deal, but don't, but make it tasteful, right? (32:26) Celebrate me, but do it in a way that doesn't require me to stand there like a hostage while Dave from accounting sings in a key that only dogs can hear. See, you wanted the old school respect, right? The grandmother phone call energy, the card with an actual signature and maybe a crisp Fiverr, you know, not, not an office card with a HBD from a guy you'd never seen upright. (32:48) Okay. So, so you do what any reasonable adult does. You got to weaponize bureaucracy here. See you, you issue a birthday specification sheet, right? One card, no signing, no circle cake may be delivered silently to the desk, like a diplomatic pouch. Candles are banned because nobody looks dignified being wished at. And if someone violates the protocol, well, they lose signing privileges for the rest of the quarter, but don't stop there. Then you got to audit. (33:18) See who remembered without a reminder who only remembered because the screen told them and you grade them not publicly, of course, not publicly. You smile privately. You keep a little ledger. Like you're the IRS of affection. Now I'm going to say something brave, a little fuss is nice. It means you exist. It means people noticed you didn't die this year. (33:42) And also for the record, you know, it's my birthday too today, Monday, and I don't want to fuss. I want to fuss delivered quietly in compliance and immediately. So there you go. It's a good thing. You said something because guess what was next? Happy birthday to you. (34:01) Happy birthday to you. I'm not going to make a fuss, but happy birthday to you. Thanks, Tom. Thanks, Tom. See, Tom, Tom has to be reminded. I've been holding that. Yeah, he's been graded. He's been graded. Yeah. God, do you know how long, how hard it was not to say anything? Oh, okay. Actually, actually, actually, I'd love, I got to give a Schuyler a kudos on that. (34:30) He reminded me Schuyler Schuyler's the one that sold you down the road, man. Oh yeah. Thank God he's not here to bring in some crap food to make me eat. Not yet anyway. Yeah. Yeah. He'll probably try to do it later in the week. That's right. Oh, all right, folks. That was, uh, that, that was your ask uncle Bobby advice for, uh, for today. (34:53) That's the best worst advice. You never knew you need it. And he got it all right here on 100.3 KROCK, the classic rock station. Right now we've got Genesis misunderstanding coming up. We got grateful dead for Tate, Tom Petty, and the heartbreakers. And well, I'm sure there's some Bob Seger out there too. Stick around. Don't go nowhere. Classic. (35:10) Deep purple and space trucking right here. 100.3 KROCK, the classic rock station. You're listening to The B Team morning show with Bobby and Tom brought to you in part by our friends over at Okaloosa gas stripes pub and grill and outcast sushi in Miramar beach folks. It is a rainy Monday morning. That is just, that is what it is. It is. It's just nothing else. Now, uh, we've heard about some, uh, some stalled vehicles and road closures going on out there. Uh, we do, uh, we, we did recently just get updated that, uh, the left southbound lane on one 23 at mile marker five is blocked due to a traffic crash. So if you're out there on one 23 cutoff, uh, be very careful out there. It's a, that, that's a man. They've, they have made it a four lane road, but it's still a dangerous road. And that's a, that's where I lost my dad nearly a little over 25 years ago. (36:15) Really? Yeah. Yeah. October, October 10th. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, we've got one northbound lane at bill Parkway at Lewis, uh, street is blocked due and, uh, due to a disabled vehicle. And we do have that flooding out on Okaloosa Island where all eastbound traffic from Brooks bridge is being rerouted through the convention center. The westbound traffic is down to one lane. Now we did hear, uh, from, uh, from the guys over at, uh, Alan Reese over at superior construction that, you know, it was just that, uh, that, that overflow pond, right. The runoff pond is what we would call it growing up, but, uh, they've got some pumps in there. They're trying to get it pumped out. They're trying to get it squared away. Uh, mother nature just got ahead of him this morning. (36:54) So, but now it's been raining. So everything's soggy, you know, the soil's not as permeable as it once was. Well, it's, and it's just a mess. It's been raining for a couple of days now. It's just an absolute mess out there. So take it easy and, uh, don't, don't rush. Give yourself some extra time wherever you got to go. Yeah. Yeah. It's currently 75. We've got winds out from the east at 11 miles an hour. Um, listen, uh, the showers and thunderstorms today, we're expecting it can produce some heavy rain at times. Uh, it's mostly cloudy. It's high, high near 82 is where it's going to be today. Those winds are going to stick around, uh, you know, five to 10 miles per hour. Although I did tell you, they were just 11 chance precipitation, 80% new rainfall amounts between one and two inches possible. Now there is a small craft advisory. So, uh, you know, Hey, be careful. If you think you're going to get out there, man, it's a Caesar two to three feet. It's, uh, it's, it's, it's there. Um, and, and it's going to get worse, right? They're, they're saying Caesar going to have four to seven starting tomorrow, uh, with those Northeast winds, um, increasing 10 to 15 knots, gusts up to 20. Um, it's, it's just going to be bad out there. It's just, it's just not a time to take a, take your vessel out. Yeah. It's just sticking shore, find something else to do fish off the dock if you have to, uh, but it's, but it's going to be raining. Uh, and you know, don't, don't worry too much about UV protection today. It's it's at a one if the sun can get through the clouds. (38:23) That's right. Uh, we, uh, we had high tide this morning, about four 34. We're not going to see a low tide until about a four 51 this evening. And, uh, and look with that, uh, with those flood advisories and things out. I mean, I can tell you from, uh, from looking out from behind my house, I mean, tight, tight is up, you know, we've had all that rain. We've got all those, uh, those winds blowing in. It's, uh, yeah, it's, it's going to be there. So y'all stick to it. (38:48) Uh, should dry out a little bit, but it's gonna, it's gonna rain some more. It's, uh, I'm looking at the radar right now, man. There's just, there's a lot of rain coming. It's backed up. It's not going to stop for a while. Yeah. It, uh, you know, it looks like, it looks like it, uh, based on the movement, we, maybe we, we thread the meat, the needle. Yeah. You know, I've, I've seen us do that before where it rains like hell North and South of us, but yeah, you know, we just got that little, that little South Okaloosa umbrella, you know, I'm kind of a rainy day guy. You know, I, I, I, I, I love the, I love the sunshine. I love the, the, the nice, beautiful days and everything like that. But you know, every now and again, I like a nice rainy day kind of clears everything out, uh, washes everything off kind of, you know, when the sun comes back out, it seems clearer, crisper. I don't know. It's just something, something nice, especially after the, after the rain is gone. It seems, seems life seems a little cleaner, I guess is how I put it. (39:42) Hey, I, I, I get it. I mean, I'm, I'm one of those guys too, that, uh, you know, I never complain about it getting cold. I, I kind of enjoy having a few cold days. You know, it makes you, it makes you appreciate the warm weather so much more, you know, when you're just frigging hot all the time. It's not much to it. Yeah. (39:59) Man water temperatures are still up there guys So, you know, that's part of what's what's helping all of this kind of push through is is It's that nice warm water that we have so El Nino, right? There's an El Nino going to yeah Not only super El Nino not only as an El Nino It's a super El Nino and it's they think it's the the superest super has to tell me No, and recorded history. Yeah, there was there was one that was that was really I guess really bad in the 1800s. It was like one of the first recorded ones Okay, and and this one is supposed to and then it never got that bad again Okay, and now this one's supposed to be be more batter. Okay, okay Super duper that's right. It's the it's the superest El Nino, you know, it's kind of like being on double triple secret probation Yes, and there are many times All right, we've got little feet with Dixie chicken right here 103 KROCK your classic rock station don't go anywhere That's the kinks and Lola right here on 100 point 3k rock the classic rock station Oh, man, gosh, you're listening to Bobby and Tom the only Bob and Tom that matter we are What presently makes up The B Team morning show because Schuyler's a mama's boy and ran back to Iowa you got the hiccups, Bobby Yeah, well, I just a little bit indigestion. Okay. Yeah I think I was I was telling you off air I started a little over about a month ago started taking capsaicin because it's you know That diabetes blood flow becomes a problem and and all of that and it's supposed to be really good for it And I did I found that it's increased my energy. There's a lot of a lot of benefits, but New multivitamin I take gives me a little indigestion and and the capsaicin It's that it's what makes the chili pepper hot right or the ghost pepper hot That's the that's the little chemical that makes it the peppers hot and well, it's it's in it. It's in a nice gel So it goes and it hits your stomach. It's it's okay But then you get a little indigestion and you just you start you start belching fire Dying over here. Well, you haven't burned the mic up yet. So that's a good thing. No, I don't have any nose hairs left anyway Hey folks, Fort Walton Beach Garner's Park is closed due to bacteria in the water I know that might be a shock to you. Yeah, some of you may be going when was it opened? (42:18) The Florida Department of Health in Oakland County issued a water quality advisory for Garner's Park after test on September 4th 30th found enterococcus Bacteria levels exceeding state safety standards So swimmers are advised to avoid the beach until bacteria levels return to acceptable levels Which who knows when the heck that will be because it seems like that's always going on That's always going on well, and so I was gonna ask you a question Based on you've been here for a long time What what causes that part to be? (42:57) Such an issue constantly because it's always there's a stormwater drain right next to it. Yeah This is how they run off in a drain. I mean, okay, that's yeah Yeah And you can't 100% Convince me that a lot of those houses before water was ran there all those houses that back up there They're on old septic tanks. Yeah, and the way the way they they tapped in sure It's not like they plumbed and avoided the septic tank. They literally just piped the waste into the septic tank So yeah, I kind of kind of thought the same thing. Yeah, it's poop in the water I'm also pretty sure that's what's happening up at Cinco Bayou Yeah, I bet I bet if we went through and we expected it that what we'll find is the waste lines Just ran to the old septic tanks and some of those septic tanks now, or you know, I mean, they're pushing 6070 years old. So yeah, they deteriorate early. I Mean mine in florella was only like what 30 years old. Yeah, completely compromised, right? (43:59) I'm guessing it's going somewhere probably yeah, and most of those septic tanks back then didn't have bottoms on them No, you know, that's not something they did right? Yeah, so yeah, there's there's a there's a whole lot to that to that mess Going on over there. Well, hey Tom, it's much anticipated and we've been waiting for it for a while But as promised here is the one and only the man Bob Seeger Oh nice for a bullet band right here 100.3 KROCK the classic rock station.
