DeSantis Tells Tourists That Destin Is Open For Business

Get The Coast— Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis visited Destin following Hurricane Isaias to reassure tourists that the community was recovering quickly and remained open for business. Although the storm caused damage across parts of Northwest Florida, DeSantis praised local residents, emergency responders, and state officials for their efforts to restore services and help affected communities. He encouraged visitors to keep their travel plans, emphasizing the importance of tourism to local businesses. The governor also highlighted recovery initiatives, including $10 million in interest-free emergency loans for small businesses, a request for federal disaster assistance, and a state program providing travel trailers to residents whose homes require repairs. Local business leaders echoed his optimism, noting that businesses were reopening quickly, including Jackacuda’s Seafood and Sushi, which resumed operations within 24 hours of the storm. Destin Chamber of Commerce President Shane Moody emphasized the community’s resilience and ability to recover from past disasters, while officials encouraged visitors to return for upcoming activities such as fishing, golfing, and holiday travel. Overall, the message from state and local leaders was that Destin was recovering, businesses were welcoming customers, and tourism remained vital to the area’s economic recovery.

Gov. DeSantis Says FEMA Is Processing NWFL Disaster Declaration

News4Jax— Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis provided an update on recovery efforts following Hurricane Isaias, reporting that the state had completed approximately 1,900 emergency response missions across the Panhandle. The state has requested a federal disaster declaration, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is processing the request to provide additional assistance to affected communities. Meanwhile, Florida is working with Emergency RV to offer temporary housing to residents whose homes were severely damaged, with the first two travel trailers awarded to families in Escambia County. State officials have also distributed hundreds of thousands of meals, boxes of water, bags of ice, tarps, and fuel to support residents during recovery. Additional resources are available through multi-agency assistance centers and a mobile response bus, while financial aid is being provided to first responders whose homes were damaged by the storm. Despite significant destruction and widespread power outages, state and local officials continue coordinating recovery efforts to help residents rebuild and restore normal conditions throughout Northwest Florida.

Ask Uncle Bobby

Bad advice for good people.

As heard on the B-Team Morning Show

Each weekday, some poor soul writes in for help. Uncle Bobby gives them the worst advice we can legally put on the air.

October 20 · Today's Letter

Dear Uncle Bobby,

I ran into an old friend at the grocery store and we both said "we should totally get together sometime." We have said that exact sentence to each other, in that exact aisle, for six years. Neither of us has ever picked a date. Does either of us actually mean it?

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

National Suspenders Day

National Suspenders Day is that annual reminder that gravity’s been coming for your pants since the day you were born, and belts are just confident liars with a buckle. We celebrate the brave little straps that keep your dignity from puddling around your ankles, whether you’re dressing like a banker, a bartender, or a man hiding from his own reflection. It’s not about fashion; it’s about infrastructure—two shoulder-mounted seatbelts for your bad decisions. So clip in, stand up straight, and pretend this is a choice, not a last-ditch truce with your waistline.
