Fort Walton Beach Police Talk Armed Veteran In Crisis Into Peaceful Surrender

City Of Fort Walton Beach— Fort Walton Beach Police officers safely resolved a potentially dangerous situation involving an armed military veteran experiencing a mental health crisis at 29 Miracle Strip Parkway SW, according to an Oct. 14, 2026, department press release. After finding the man wearing tactical gear and carrying multiple firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, officers negotiated with him, and a fellow veteran used their shared military background to build trust and persuade him to surrender peacefully without injuries. The man was connected with mental health resources for an evaluation, and the department emphasized the importance of crisis intervention training and treating individuals in crisis with dignity and compassion.

Storm Debris Collection Begins Today In Destin

City Of Destin— The City of Destin will begin collecting storm debris on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, with crews working from sunrise to sunset seven days a week, starting in West Destin and assigning a truck to the Crystal Beach area before continuing throughout the city. Residents are asked to avoid street parking and place loose vegetative debris, such as trees, branches and limbs, along the public right-of-way, separate from construction debris, without bagging it or mixing it with household trash. Debris should be kept clear of roads, sidewalks, storm drains, mailboxes and utility equipment, and children and pedestrians should stay away from debris piles and collection crews. The city said Hurricane Isaias left significant debris that will take time to remove, noting that crews may revisit neighborhoods several times and asking residents for patience as cleanup continues. For questions, contact Destin Public Works at 850-837-6869.

Ask Uncle Bobby

Bad advice for good people.

As heard on the B-Team Morning Show

Each weekday, some poor soul writes in for help. Uncle Bobby gives them the worst advice we can legally put on the air.

October 15 · Today's Letter

Dear Uncle Bobby,

My 22-year-old coworker gently explained that side parts are "giving millennial," skinny jeans are over, and the laughing-crying emoji is something only old people use. I am not a millennial. I'm Gen X. I honestly can't decide which part of that is more insulting. How do I handle being called old by a kid who can't even get my generation right?

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

Spirit Day

Spirit Day is that yearly civic ritual where everyone pretends optimism is a renewable resource and slaps on a color like it’s armor against reality. It’s about “showing support,” which in practice means you wear the designated shade, post something heartfelt, and hope the universe accepts it as payment for the rest of your personality. Schools and workplaces crank the morale dial to eleven, social media turns into a glittery group project, and for 24 hours we all agree not to ask what happens tomorrow. It’s absurd, sure—but it’s also a reminder that sometimes the smallest act of solidarity is just loud enough to make the quiet cruelty back up a step.
