What We're Talking About

The news we couldn't ignore if we tried

Eglin Testing Will Shut Down Some Roads Tomorrow

Get The Coast— Eglin Air Force Base will temporarily close parts of Highways 85 and 285, along with State Roads 123 and 293, on Thursday, October 15, to support testing operations conducted by the 96th Test Wing. The closures are scheduled to occur between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., with each closure lasting no longer than 90 minutes. Motorists should prepare for multiple temporary closures throughout the testing period and plan for possible travel delays.

Power Nearly 100% Restored Across Okaloosa County

Get The Coast— Power restoration is nearly complete in Okaloosa and Walton counties following Hurricane Isaias, with Florida Power & Light (FPL) reporting that most affected customers have had their electricity restored. As of early Tuesday morning, only 20 FPL customers in Okaloosa County and 10 in Walton County remained without power, while crews continued addressing outages in other parts of the Panhandle. Residents may still experience brief interruptions as utility workers repair remaining storm damage, and those whose electrical systems were damaged should contact a licensed electrician before service can safely resume.

Santa Rosa Schools Reopening Next Week

Navarre Press— The Santa Rosa County School Board voted unanimously to postpone the school reopening from Oct. 14 to Oct. 19, citing widespread power outages, water damage and community recovery needs following Hurricane Isaias. The decision overrode a state directive requiring Panhandle schools to reopen by midweek, with the board's attorney confirming the district has final authority over reopening dates.

Ask Uncle Bobby

Bad advice for good people.

As heard on the B-Team Morning Show

Each weekday, some poor soul writes in for help. Uncle Bobby gives them the worst advice we can legally put on the air.

October 14 · Today's Letter

Dear Uncle Bobby,

My mom calls me because "the internet is gone." It's the TV on the wrong input. An hour later my teenager needs me to fix the Wi-Fi, approve a download, and explain why they can't put a credit card on the game console. I'm 51, I'm on call around the clock for both ends of the family, and nobody ever says thank you. How do I get out of being the family help desk?

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

National Curves Day

National Curves Day is that special little speed bump on the calendar where we pretend the world needed a reminder that people come in shapes, and the only straight line involved is the one you’re not supposed to say out loud. It’s a celebration of curves—bodies, roads, life choices—anything that refuses to behave like a ruler and a spreadsheet. The official vibe is “confidence,” the unofficial vibe is “every brand within fifty miles trying to sell you self-love at a 20% markup.” We’re not here to argue with it; we’re here to watch what people do with it when they think nobody’s keeping score.
