Week 6 HS Football Preview

MaxPreps— High School Football Preview: Week 6 Another big week of high school football is on tap across the Emerald Coast, with Crestview, Fort Walton Beach, Choctaw, Niceville and Destin all back in action. CRESTVIEW AT PACE Crestview travels to Pace Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The Bulldogs are looking to rebound after a tough loss last week and will face a Pace team coming off a loss to Choctaw. Crestview will look to get its offense going early and stay competitive on the road. FORT WALTON BEACH AT GULF BREEZE Fort Walton Beach heads to Gulf Breeze for a 7 p.m. district matchup. The Vikings enter at 2-3 and will try to bounce back after last week's loss to Walton. Gulf Breeze is still searching for its first win, making this an important opportunity for both teams as district play continues. CHOCTAW AT MILTON Choctaw travels to Milton Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. district game. The Indians are coming off a strong 49-28 win over Niceville and have won two straight. Milton will look to slow down Choctaw's offense and protect its home field. TATE AT NICEVILLE Niceville returns home to face Tate at 7 p.m. Friday. The Eagles are coming off a 49-28 loss to Choctaw and will be looking to regroup quickly. Niceville has already shown plenty of offensive firepower this season and will try to get back on track in this district matchup. DESTIN AT PENSACOLA CATHOLIC Destin opens district play Thursday night at Pensacola Catholic, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. The Sharks enter at 2-1 after a bye week and will face a tough Pensacola Catholic team that has started the season 4-1. The extra preparation time could be important as Destin begins its district schedule. With district games becoming increasingly important, this week's slate gives local teams plenty to play for as the season moves toward October.

TS Fay Develops In Atlantic

ABC News— Tropical Storm Fay has officially formed in the northern Atlantic, sitting about 450 miles southwest of the Azores. The good news, Fay isn’t a threat to land. No watches, no warnings, and forecasters at the National Hurricane Center say it’s expected to stay out to sea. Winds are holding around 45 mph with a little strengthening possible, and the storm is creeping north‑northeast at just 5 mph. This fits the trend: the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season has been unusually quiet, thanks largely to a strong El Niño keeping conditions calm.

FWB Retail Plaza Sells For More Than $8 Million

Get The Coast— The Shoppes at Paradise Pointe, a 73,416-square-foot shopping center anchored by Publix near Brooks Bridge in downtown Fort Walton Beach, has sold for $8.4 million. TSCG brokered the sale of the property, which was purchased by a private individual from SITE Centers Corp. The center was 82.5% occupied at the time of the sale, with Publix occupying more than 44,000 square feet and recently extending its lease through 2031. The property also includes outparcels occupied by Waffle House and Beach Liquors, along with several other retail and service businesses. Built in 1987, the center's high-traffic location and long-standing Publix presence were cited as key factors in its appeal to investors, while nearly 13,000 square feet of vacant space offers room for additional income growth.

New Advisory Issued For Cinco Bayou

Get The Coast— The Okaloosa Health Department issued a water quality advisory for Cinco Bayou in Fort Walton Beach after testing revealed that Enterococcus bacteria levels exceeded state recreational guidelines. Because of the increased risk of illness for swimmers, officials advised the public to avoid all water-related activities in the area until subsequent testing confirms that bacteria levels have returned to safe standards.

Eglin Conducting Tests Over Gulf This Week

Get The Coast— The 96th Test Wing at Eglin Air Force Base will conduct tests from Santa Rosa Island into the Gulf on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, with operations running from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. All vessel traffic will be prohibited from the active hazard area during the testing periods, with mariners notified via radio broadcasts on VHF channel 16 and HF upper sideband 2181 KHz.

Two Arrested In Crestview Over Cell Phone Argument

WEAR TV3— An argument over a cellphone in Crestview escalated into a violent confrontation that left three women injured, including an 80-year-old, and led to the arrests of two men by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office. Deputies arrested 45-year-old Delairius Leshaun Watts on battery charges after he allegedly attacked the women when they intervened in a dispute, and during the subsequent search of the home, authorities also arrested 48-year-old Charles Tucker, an 11-time convicted felon, after discovering narcotics and a short-barreled shotgun with a defaced serial number.
