FWBPD Sting Two On Underage Alcohol Sales

Get The Coast— The Fort Walton Beach Police Department conducted an undercover compliance operation on September 15 targeting the illegal sale of alcohol to people under 21, resulting in charges against two employees at local gas stations. During the operation, an underage participant working with police successfully purchased alcohol from a Shell station near Wright Parkway and Petro Express on Memorial Parkway. The employees involved in the sales were each charged under Florida Statute 562.11, which prohibits providing alcoholic beverages to individuals under 21. Police said the operation was prompted by complaints about local gas stations selling age-restricted products to minors and reminded retailers that employees must properly verify customers’ ages and understand the legal requirements surrounding the sale of age-restricted products.

Former Hurlburt AFSOC Chief Found Guilty Of Child Porn

Get The Coast— Former Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) Command Chief Master Sgt. Anthony Green was found guilty at a general court-martial at Hurlburt Field of four offenses involving the production, possession, and viewing of child pornography, as well as indecent recording. The trial took place from September 14–17, 2026, and the offenses were reported to have occurred on or near Hurlburt Field and involved one victim. Green was sentenced to 10 years in confinement for producing child pornography, with additional two-year sentences for the other offenses to run concurrently. He was also reduced to the rank of E-1 and received a dishonorable discharge. Green was acquitted of a separate charge of obstructing justice.

Crestview Approves 12% Rate Increase For Water And Sewer

Crestview Bulletin— Crestview City Council voted to increase water and sewer rates by 12 percent starting October 1 as part of a broader package of utility and service fee increases. The decision was made during a September 14 council meeting.

Bernard Johnson Awarded Lifetime Membership By Destin Chamber

Get The Coast— The Destin Chamber recognized Bernard Johnson, a longtime Florida Power & Light executive, with its Lifetime Membership Award during its Sept. 11 Business Before Hours event. The award, presented by 2026 Chamber Chairman Monica Wallis, honored Johnson’s decades of service to FPL, the Destin community, and the Chamber as he prepares for retirement. Johnson has spent more than 38 years with FPL and its predecessor, Gulf Power, working in areas including operations, engineering, customer service, and marketing, and currently serves as Regional Manager of External Affairs for Northwest Florida. In addition to his professional career, Johnson has contributed to numerous community organizations and initiatives focused on economic development, education, workforce development, and quality of life. Chamber President and CEO Shane A. Moody praised Johnson’s lasting contributions and positive influence, noting that the Lifetime Membership Award is reserved for individuals who have provided exceptional service to the community. Johnson joins a select group of previous Destin Chamber lifetime members.

DeSantis And FL Republicans Strongly Disagree On Amendment 1

NBC Miami— Gov. Ron DeSantis has publicly broken with the Republican Party of Florida over Amendment 1, a proposed constitutional change that would increase the maximum size of Florida’s budget stabilization, or “rainy day,” fund from 10% to 25% of the previous year’s general fund revenue. While state Republican leaders support the measure as a way to strengthen the state’s financial reserves for emergencies, natural disasters, and economic downturns, DeSantis has urged voters to reject it, arguing that Florida already has sufficient reserves and that additional revenue should instead be directed toward tax reductions and other priorities. The amendment, which was approved by the Legislature with broad bipartisan support in 2025, would also allow up to $750 million to be added to the reserve annually until the new limit is reached, with exceptions for certain emergencies and budget shortfalls.
