Kelley Family Opens 6th Beach Liquors Store

Beach Liquors / Bourbon With The Boys— Beach Liquors has opened its sixth Northwest Florida location at The Market Shops at Sandestin in Miramar Beach. The 4,800-square-foot store, located at 9375 Emerald Coast Parkway, offers a wide selection of liquor, wine, craft beer, cigars, and THC-infused products, along with a self-serve wine and whiskey bar featuring more than 35 premium selections by the pour. Customers can also receive assistance from an in-house wine steward, explore the store’s walk-in craft beer “cave,” and take advantage of delivery and online ordering through the company’s website, app, or Uber Eats. The store is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and plans to host weekly Friday wine tastings from 5 to 7 p.m., as well as additional tasting and educational events throughout the year. Family-owned Beach Liquors was founded by siblings Chuck, Mike, and Pat Kelley in 2000 and has since expanded across several Northwest Florida communities. Shalimar Council Meeting On Tuesday

Town Of Shalimar— The Shalimar Town Commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 2 Cherokee Road. Town Commission meetings are normally held on the second Tuesday of each month. The Sept. 8 meeting is expected to be a significant one for the town because it follows the first budget hearing scheduled for 5:01 p.m. that evening. Town officials are expected to address the proposed municipal budget and other routine town business during the regular commission meeting.

Destin Firefighters Take Part In Smoke Training Exercises

WKRG— Destin Fire Rescue firefighters recently took part in specialized smoke-training exercises designed to prepare them for the dangerous and unpredictable conditions they may encounter during real structure fires. The training allowed crews to practice navigating through smoke-filled environments, locating victims and responding effectively while dealing with limited visibility and other hazards. Officials say hands-on exercises like these are an important part of keeping firefighters prepared, strengthening teamwork and ensuring they can respond quickly and safely when emergencies occur.

Okaloosa County Chooses To Regulate Data Centers - NOT Ban

WEAR TV3— Okaloosa County commissioners are taking a measured approach to the growing debate over data centers, choosing regulation over an outright ban or moratorium. During a recent commission meeting, commissioners agreed that data centers are likely to become an increasingly important part of the technology landscape but said the county should establish clear standards before any developer proposes a project. County staff will examine potential locations as well as the facilities’ impacts on electricity and water demand, noise, lighting, buffers and other development requirements. Commissioners are also considering requiring data centers to receive conditional-use approval on a case-by-case basis. Staff is expected to return within 60 days with an initial regulatory framework, giving the county an opportunity to address potential community and infrastructure concerns while keeping the door open to future technology investment.

Leadership Opportunities Expand To Students In Okaloosa Schools

Okaloosa County School District— The Okaloosa County School District’s Leadership Experience Initiative (LEI) is expanding opportunities for educators and students to develop leadership skills through immersive, hands-on experiences. Launched in 2024, the program has supported eight local school leaders through leadership training with the Gardner Carney Leadership Institute, with four additional educators participating in 2026. This year, LEI also broadened its focus to students, providing four students from Fort Walton Beach High School and Choctawhatchee High School with leadership experiences through Students Shoulder-to-Shoulder and Outward Bound. Organizers say the program is designed to challenge participants’ perspectives, build confidence and encourage personal growth, with the goal of helping educators and students bring stronger relationships, fresh ideas and a greater sense of purpose back to their schools and communities. The initiative plans to continue expanding leadership opportunities for both students and school staff.
