Travelers Of 85 And 123, Heads Up On Wednesday

Get The Coast— Highway 85 and State Road 123 will experience intermittent closures on Wednesday, September 2, as the 96th Test Wing conducts testing at the Eglin Test and Training Complex. The closures are expected between 9:00 and 11:30 a.m., with each closure lasting no more than 90 minutes, although multiple closures may occur during that period. Officials have also scheduled backup testing for September 11 during the same morning time frame.

Wife Of Crestview Man Killed By OCSO Arrested On Weapons Charge

Get The Coast— Madeline Haner, the wife of Crestview man Antonio Haner, who was fatally shot by Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies during an Aug. 8 standoff, was arrested in Oklahoma after a traffic stop uncovered a homemade explosive device and several firearms in her vehicle. According to the sheriff’s office, Haner was stopped by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol on Aug. 25 and later charged with unlawful possession of an explosive and using a firearm while committing a felony. She remains jailed in Oklahoma without bond, while Okaloosa County has an active warrant charging her with manufacturing an explosive device with the intent to cause harm or death. The warrant follows the discovery of live homemade explosive devices during a search of the Crestview home on Aug. 8.

Okaloosa County To Remove All Flock Cameras After FDOT Memo

MidBay News— Okaloosa County plans to remove all Flock license plate recognition cameras from state and county roads after the Florida Department of Transportation revoked permits allowing local law enforcement agencies to use the technology. The FDOT decision cited concerns involving the use, privacy and surveillance implications of license plate reader systems. Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden expressed disappointment with the decision, saying the cameras have provided a valuable public-safety tool for law enforcement.

NWFSC Receives $3 Million In Funding For Maritime Fabrication Training Center

Northwest Florida State College— Northwest Florida State College has received a $3 million state investment from Gov. Ron DeSantis to establish a new Maritime Fabrication Training Center on its Niceville campus. The approximately 4,000-square-foot facility will provide hands-on training in composite fabrication, testing and industrial pipefitting through two new workforce programs designed to prepare students for high-demand careers. The center will include dedicated training bays for composite and metal fabrication and is intended to meet the growing workforce needs of Northwest Florida’s maritime, defense, aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries.
