Reminder, FWBPD Is Taking Drunk Driving Seriously This Labor Day

City Of Fort Walton Beach— As Labor Day weekend approaches, the Fort Walton Beach Police Department reminds drivers to never drink and drive. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign runs through Sept. 7, 2026. In support of the campaign, Fort Walton Beach Police officers will be on the streets looking for impaired drivers and will conduct DUI checkpoints. “DUI checkpoints in Fort Walton Beach aren't about making arrests; they're about preventing them,” said Officer Seth Williams with the Fort Walton Beach Police Department. “Our goal is simple: to deter impaired drivers before they make life-altering decisions, and to keep all of our community safe.” Drivers planning to drink during Labor Day festivities should make arrangements for a safe ride home before they start drinking. Impairment can cloud judgment and puts everyone on the road at risk. Scheduled September DUI Checkpoints Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026 — 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wright Parkway and Rogers Street Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026 — 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. U.S. Highway 98 at City Hall Plan ahead, drive sober, and help keep Fort Walton Beach's roads safe this Labor Day weekend.

Week 2 High School Football Recap

Get The Coast— Week 2 of the high school football season featured several standout performances across the area, including South Walton’s convincing 35-0 win over Fort Walton Beach to remain unbeaten. Baker continued to show why it is considered a strong Class 1A contender, while Niceville picked up its first victory under head coach Adron Robinson, defeating West Florida Tech 41-14 after overcoming a slow start and taking control in the second half. With several teams and new coaches also recording important wins, it was another exciting night of high school football across the Emerald Coast.

Rain Causes 11-Car Pile Up On I-10

WEAR TV3— Heavy rain contributed to a series of crashes Sunday afternoon on westbound Interstate 10 in Okaloosa County, involving 11 vehicles near mile marker 46. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a driver lost control in the wet conditions and struck a guardrail and another vehicle, leading to two additional crashes in the same area. Six people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, while westbound I-10 was closed for about three and a half hours as emergency crews responded and cleared the scene. The roadway reopened and was fully clear by approximately 6:42 p.m.

OCSO Arrests Teenage Girl For School Shooting Threats

WEAR TV3— Okaloosa County deputies arrested a teenage girl Sunday after investigators traced a threatening TikTok post referencing students at Pryor and Bruner middle schools. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said school resource officers, patrol deputies and investigators worked together to identify the person responsible and determine whether the threat was credible. Authorities said the teen did not appear to have access to weapons and that the threat was ultimately considered not credible, but emphasized that threats involving local schools are taken seriously and will be thoroughly investigated in coordination with the Okaloosa County School District.

Hemp Industry Urges Lawmakers To Re-Think THC Limits Before November

WEAR TV3— Florida’s hemp industry is urging Congress to reconsider upcoming federal restrictions on THC-infused beverages before the new rules take effect Nov. 12. The regulations would limit hemp drinks and gummies to 0.4 milligrams of total THC per container, far below the 5 to 10 milligrams commonly found in many products currently sold in Florida. Industry representatives warn the change could significantly hurt businesses that rely on THC beverages, while some breweries say the drinks have become increasingly popular among customers seeking non-alcoholic alternatives. Although THC beverages would not be completely prohibited, producers would need to drastically reduce their THC content to comply with the new federal limits.

FL Gas Prices Edge North For Upcoming Holiday Weekend

News Radio 92.3— Florida drivers can expect to pay slightly more at the pump heading into the Labor Day weekend, with the state average for regular unleaded rising to $3.89 per gallon, according to AAA. The three-cent increase from the previous week continues a relatively steady pattern in gas prices throughout the summer. For drivers in the Pensacola area planning holiday trips, the modest rise is unlikely to significantly affect travel plans but could add to fuel costs for longer drives. AAA says prices have remained fairly stable compared with the larger fluctuations seen in previous years, and motorists hoping to save money may want to fill up earlier in the week before holiday weekend demand potentially drives prices higher.

Slinky Day

Slinky Day is that annual reminder that humans will assign a calendar date to anything that can fall down stairs without filing a complaint. You celebrate by honoring the noble metal noodle: you drop it, you watch it, you pretend gravity is entertainment, and you call it “tradition” so nobody asks follow-up questions. There’s usually a contest, a commemorative slink, and at least one adult who swears this is “for the kids” while filming it like the Zapruder tape. Keep it wholesome if you can, but remember: the second you take Slinky Day seriously, it turns into a personality defect.
