Water Quality Advisory Re-issued For Cinco Bayou

City Of Fort Walton Beach— The Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County has issued a health advisory for Cinco Bayou in Fort Walton Beach after water samples collected on August 20, 2026, showed elevated levels of Enterococcus bacteria that exceed state recreational water quality standards. Because the contamination may increase the risk of illness, residents and visitors are advised to avoid swimming and other water-related activities in the area until testing confirms that bacteria levels have returned to acceptable limits.

West Nile Virus Hits Walton County

Get The Coast— The Florida Department of Health in Walton County has confirmed a locally acquired human case of West Nile virus and issued a mosquito-borne illness advisory for the area. In response, health officials are working with South Walton Mosquito Control on prevention and monitoring efforts, including ground treatments, spraying and removing standing water where the case was identified. Officials did not release information about the patient or the severity of the illness but encouraged residents to protect themselves by using insect repellent, eliminating standing water around their homes and reporting dead birds to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Man Arrested For Stealing Car From Local Dealership

WEAR TV3— A 21-year-old man, Jalen Hardy, was arrested on August 20 after Okaloosa County deputies said he broke into the Used Cars Florida dealership on Beal Parkway in Fort Walton Beach, took a key and stole a white Nissan valued at about $18,000. Investigators said surveillance footage linked Hardy to the burglary, and deputies later found him inside the stolen vehicle near Eglin Parkway after the car had reportedly been involved in several hit-and-run incidents. According to the sheriff’s office, Hardy admitted to breaking into the dealership and taking the vehicle because he needed transportation to return to Detroit. He faces charges of burglary of an unoccupied structure and motor vehicle theft and was being held in the Okaloosa County Jail without bond; deputies also noted that he had been arrested the previous day on a separate trespassing charge involving a communications tower.
