Santa Rosa Island Authority Considers New Regulations For Pensacola Beach Short-Term Rentals

WEAR TV3The Santa Rosa Island Authority is considering new guidelines for short-term rentals on Pensacola Beach in response to concerns from year-round residents about issues such as increased traffic, overflowing trash, noise and limited parking during the busy tourist season. The proposed policy would create a registry for residential properties operating as short-term rentals, using information from property owners, the state’s vacation rental database and the Escambia County Clerk of Court. Property owners would also be expected to provide proof of registration with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation and designate someone who can be contacted 24/7 regarding law-enforcement matters or county ordinance violations. While some rental owners support the proposal if it is implemented fairly, others believe property owners should take greater responsibility for setting expectations for guests. The Island Authority’s attorney noted that its regulatory authority is limited because some measures fall under Escambia County’s jurisdiction, meaning broader changes could require county action. The proposal is scheduled for discussion at an upcoming Island Authority meeting.

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

Stay Home with Your Kids Day

Stay Home with Your Kids Day is that little calendar prank where society gently suggests you skip the grind and spend the day with the tiny roommates you created on purpose. You do it because it’s “quality time,” which is adult code for “I feel guilty and I’m trying to pay it off in one lump sum.” Expect crafts that look like evidence, snacks that vanish like cash, and conversations that start with why and end with you staring into the middle distance, reconsidering every decision since 2009. It’s wholesome, it’s chaotic, and it’s a reminder that the real vacation is going back to work tomorrow.
