City Of FWB Scraps Plans For Splash Pad At Landing

Get The Coast— Fort Walton Beach officials have decided to remove plans for a new splash pad and two additional restrooms at The Landing as they work to finish the renovation. Instead, the city plans to improve parking, upgrade the existing restroom, repair damaged areas, and make other smaller site improvements while limiting future maintenance costs. The Landing reopened in April 2026 following an approximately $8 million renovation that added a seawall, boardwalk, performance stage, fishing pier, watercraft launch, seating, and lighting.

Johnson FINALLY Arrested For Murder

Yahoo— A 38-year-old woman, Isabelle Rose Johnson, was wanted in connection with the murder of 43-year-old Jason Christopher Coulthart, whose remains were found in a shallow grave in Freeport after he was reported missing from Niceville. Authorities said Johnson had been using different names and disguises to avoid capture, while five people were arrested for allegedly helping her evade law enforcement. Investigators urged the public not to approach Johnson if spotted and offered a reward for information leading to her arrest.

Destin Opens New Grades 3-5 Building

Get The Coast— Destin Elementary School celebrated the opening of its new $3.5 million center, marking the return of fifth-grade students to the campus. The new facility provides additional classroom space and modern learning areas designed to better accommodate the growing student population. School officials and community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to recognize the project and its impact on students and families.

Zombie Walk In Downtown FWB

The B-Team Show— Get ready for a spooky night in downtown Fort Walton Beach as the Zombie Walk returns to The Landing Park on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026. The Halloween-themed event will feature trick-or-treating from 4–6 p.m., followed by a canned food drive and thriller dance at 7 p.m., giving families and Halloween enthusiasts a chance to enjoy an evening of costumes, dancing, and community fun. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned food donations to support local families while joining the undead festivities hosted by Downtown FWB.

Crestview PD Chief Highlights His Department's Dealing With Suspect In Last Weekend's Incident

WEAR TV3— Crestview Police Chief Stephen McCosker has clarified his department’s involvement with 29-year-old Antonio Haner before the fatal incident at Haner’s home, where deputies were serving an arrest warrant, search warrant and risk protection order. McCosker said Crestview officers believed the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office had already begun the risk protection order process after several conversations between the agencies, so police did not believe they needed to continue pursuing it. Haner later opened fire on deputies, who did not return fire, and authorities discovered explosives and hundreds of rounds of ammunition inside his home, while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement continues investigating the use of deadly force.

National Wiffle Ball Day is that sacred little pause in the calendar where grown adults rediscover the joy of throwing junk pitches with a plastic ball that curves like your cousin’s moral compass. It’s backyard baseball with training wheels, played in driveways, cul-de-sacs, and any patch of grass that hasn’t been claimed by sprinklers, dogs, or HOA bylaws. The rules are whatever the loudest person says they are, the strike zone is a vibe, and the only real tradition is pretending this is about “community” and not about settling old grudges with a bat you bought at a gas station. Mark it down, stretch first, and try not to make this the day you learn your rotator cuff has an expiration date.
