FWB City Council Back In Session Tonight After July Recess

City Of Fort Walton Beach— The Fort Walton Beach City Council is scheduled to hold two meetings on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026. A budget workshop will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the regular City Council meeting at 6 p.m. Residents can review the meeting agendas and additional information online, and both meetings will be available to watch live through the city’s meeting portal or YouTube livestream.

Ketchel Explains How County Will Be Affected If Ad Valorem Is Passed In November

Get The Coast— Okaloosa County Commissioner Carolyn Ketchel says a proposed constitutional amendment to eliminate property taxes on homesteaded homes could significantly reduce the county’s revenue. She estimates the county’s general fund could lose about $14.5 million in the first year and approximately $24 million by the second year, potentially affecting services such as public safety, emergency response, animal services, mosquito control, parks, and libraries. Ketchel explained that funds from departments such as airports, tourism, and water and sewer cannot simply be redirected to cover the shortfall because those revenues are legally restricted to specific purposes. If the amendment passes with at least 60% of the vote in November, county officials may have to reduce services or find additional revenue through other taxes to make up for the lost funding.

The City of Fort Walton Beach encourages motorists, parents, caregivers, and children to understand the areas where students are most vulnerable and to stay alert. Drivers should follow posted school-zone speed limits and allow extra travel time to help ensure a safe start to the school year.

FWB Resurfacing Projects Underway This Week

City of Fort Walton Beach— Beginning Monday, August 10, 2026, a contractor for the City of Fort Walton Beach will begin resurfacing several local streets, including Alabama Avenue, Baggett Place, Kepner Drive, Linstew Drive, and Okaloosa Road. The work will depend on weather conditions and is expected to take approximately one to two days at each location. Residents are asked to remove vehicles and other obstructions from the right-of-way and nearby work areas between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. during construction, unless otherwise notified.
