Crestview Man Killed In Okaloosa County Crash

WEAR TV3— A 65-year-old Crestview man died after a two-vehicle crash Friday evening at the intersection of State Road 189 and Green Acres Road in Okaloosa County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck driven by a 21-year-old Fort Walton Beach woman turned left into the path of the man's southbound sedan, causing the collision. The man later died at a local hospital, while the pickup driver suffered minor injuries.

Liza Jackson Park Renovation Project Begins Today

City Of Fort Walton Beach— Construction on a major renovation of Liza Jackson Park is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 3, with the park's west side, including the boat launch, closing during the project. Improvements include a new restroom building, expanded parking for vehicles and boat trailers, a redesigned boat launch traffic pattern, new sidewalks, and stormwater upgrades. The $3.1 million project, awarded to H&T Contractors LLC of Freeport, is expected to take about six months and is being funded through the Fort Walton Beach CRA, the Infrastructure Surtax, and a $1 million contribution from Okaloosa County's Tourist Development Tax fund.

Large Household Item Pick Up Begins August 3

City Of Fort Walton Beach— City of Fort Walton Beach offices and several public facilities will be closed in observance of the upcoming holiday, although police, fire, and other emergency services will remain available. Residents with after-hours water or sewer emergencies can contact the Fort Walton Beach Police Department Communications Office for assistance, while normal city operations will resume after the holiday.

Crestview PD Investigate Fatal Shooting Of Man Found On Roadway

WEAR TV3— Crestview Police are investigating the fatal shooting of 65-year-old Willie Earl Jackson, whose body was discovered along the side of a roadway early Saturday morning near Brock Avenue and Church Street. Investigators say Jackson was last seen alive around 1:30 a.m., and the case remains active as police ask anyone with information to come forward.

UWF Releases First Season D1 Basketball Schedule

WEAR TV3— The University of West Florida has unveiled its complete 2026-27 men's basketball schedule as the Argonauts prepare for their first NCAA Division I season in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The schedule features seven home conference games at the UWF Field House and seven road contests, with conference play beginning in January and the ASUN Championship set for early March in Fort Myers.

National Watermelon Day

National Watermelon Day is that annual reminder that we’ll slap a “holiday” sticker on anything that holds still long enough, especially if it’s cold, messy, and technically a fruit. You buy a watermelon the size of a toddler, haul it home like you’re training for the county fair, then spend the afternoon leaking pink juice down your elbows while pretending it’s “refreshing” and not just edible chaos. The rules are simple: eat too much, spit seeds like you’ve got opinions, and act surprised when ants show up like they paid rent. It’s wholesome. It’s ridiculous. And it’s the kind of celebration that starts innocent and ends with somebody asking why the porch smells like summer and regret.
