FHP Looking For Witness In Fatal Go-Kart Crash

WEAR TV3— The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of a light-colored, newer-model SUV that may have witnessed a fatal go-kart crash on Garden City Road south of Swan Avenue in Okaloosa County on July 3. Investigators said the SUV turned onto Garden City Road from Horne Hollow Road, traveled north, and then turned left onto Swan Avenue shortly before the crash, making the driver a potential witness. The crash occurred when a 32-year-old Crestview man lost control of his go-kart, reentered the roadway, and collided head-on with a pickup truck, resulting in his death. Anyone with information about the SUV or its owner is urged to contact FHP Corporal Joel McLeod.

IL Pontoon Crash Decapitates Woman

WEAR TV3— An Illinois man is being held without bond after authorities say he was intoxicated when he crashed a 31-foot pontoon boat into a smaller vessel on the Fox River, killing a 48-year-old woman and injuring others. Prosecutors allege 45-year-old Richard Stevenson was traveling at a high rate of speed in a no-wake zone when his pontoon struck and rode over the other boat on July 25, causing the woman's fatal injuries. Investigators said Stevenson's blood alcohol concentration was approximately 0.20—more than twice the legal limit—and witnesses reported he had been drinking and speeding throughout the day. Stevenson, who has a history of DUI and reckless driving offenses, is charged with two counts of aggravated DUI causing death and one count of reckless homicide, with his next court appearance scheduled for Aug. 5.

Two Suspects Linked To Multi-Jurisdiction Vehicle Burglary Spree Arrested

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office— Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries across multiple Florida Panhandle jurisdictions following a coordinated investigation involving the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Bay County Sheriff's Office, Panama City Beach Police Department, and other agencies. Investigators say the arrests were aided by Flock license plate reader technology, which helped locate the suspects' vehicle. Authorities believe the pair are linked to numerous vehicle break-ins, and the investigation remains active as detectives work to identify additional victims and return recovered stolen property to its owners.
