City Of FWB To Resurface Wright Parkway

Get The Coast— The City of Fort Walton Beach will begin resurfacing a section of Wright Parkway from U.S. Highway 98 to Hollywood Boulevard during the week of July 27. The weather-dependent project is expected to take one to two days, with crews working between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Motorists should expect temporary traffic impacts and use caution in the construction zone, while residents and businesses along the route are asked to remove vehicles and other obstructions from the work area during construction hours to help the project proceed safely and efficiently.

FWBPD Hosting Fill The Van Event

Get The Coast— The Fort Walton Beach Police Department is inviting the community to support local students by donating school supplies during its annual “Fill the Van” event. Officers will collect items such as notebooks, paper, binders, crayons, glue sticks, markers, tissues, and disinfecting wipes outside the police station at 7 Hollywood Blvd. NE from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, and Thursday, July 30. All donations will help provide students with the supplies they need for a successful start to the upcoming school year.

OCSD Opens Applications For School Lunch Programs

Get The Coast— The Okaloosa County School District is encouraging eligible families to apply for free or reduced-price school meals for the 2026–2027 school year. Applications are now available online through MySchoolApps or the district’s mobile app, and families must submit a new application each school year, even if they qualified previously. The district says the process is secure and confidential, and reminds parents that participating in the program can help ensure students have access to nutritious meals that support their health, focus, and academic success.

Katy Perry Is Crying Again

TMZ— Katy Perry publicly criticized the White House after her hit song Firework was used in a social media video featuring footage of U.S. military strikes. The singer said she was not asked for permission and does not support the use of her music in that context, explaining that the song was written to inspire hope, healing, and personal strength—not to accompany scenes of violence or warfare. Senior Florida Man Hires Tinder Sugar Baby and Pulls Gun When She Wants Out

TMZ— A 67-year-old Florida man was arrested after police say a first date with a woman he met on Tinder escalated into a violent confrontation. Investigators said the man, who allegedly offered to pay the woman $1,000 as a "sugar baby," gave her cash during the date before taking her to his home, where she became uncomfortable and arranged for friends to pick her up. When she refused to return the money, authorities say the man chased their vehicle, rammed it twice until it crashed into a utility pole, then allegedly pointed a handgun at one of the occupants and threatened to kill him. Police later arrested the suspect, who faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and four counts of aggravated battery.

Bagpipe Appreciation Day is the annual reminder that civilization is a thin sheet of drywall and one determined lung can punch right through it. You don’t celebrate it because it makes sense—you observe it the way you observe a tornado: from a safe distance, with a drink, pretending you’re in control. It’s a day for nodding respectfully at an instrument that sounds like a haunted air mattress trying to confess its sins, and for thanking the brave souls who keep squeezing it anyway. Stick around, because once we’ve “appreciated” the bagpipes, we’re gonna have to talk about what we’re willing to tolerate in the name of tradition.
