Okaloosa County Sets Tentative Millage Rate For Next Fiscal Year

Get The Coast— Okaloosa County commissioners voted to set the tentative property tax rate at 3.8308 mills for the 2025-26 fiscal year, marking the ninth consecutive year without an increase, while reducing the Municipal Services Taxing Unit (MSTU) rate to 0.288 mills. During the budget discussion, commissioners also debated whether the county should continue contributing to the School Resource Officer (SRO) program, with some questioning if the school district should assume more of the cost given its budget challenges and the county’s own financial pressures. Although no changes were made to SRO funding, commissioners agreed to revisit the issue during future budget discussions before adopting the final budget in September.

5 Arrested In Pensacola Beach Burglary

WEAR TV3— Five people have been arrested in connection with the burglary at Crab’s on Pensacola Beach, according to Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons. Authorities said the suspects were apprehended across three locations—two in Harrison County, Mississippi, two in Baldwin County, Alabama, and one in Mobile County, Alabama—following an investigation into the break-in, during which burglars allegedly targeted a restaurant safe containing deposit money. Investigators also recovered a large amount of cash along with items including a mask, gloves, power tools, and marijuana. The sheriff’s office has not yet released the suspects’ identities, and the investigation remains ongoing.
