Fire crews responded after a neighbor reported flames at the home and found heavy fire and thick smoke throughout the residence. Acting on information from the neighbor, firefighters located the unconscious woman in a bedroom and rescued her through a window before providing emergency treatment for severe smoke inhalation. She was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to Pensacola, where she is reported to be in stable condition. The fire claimed the lives of seven dogs and one cat, displaced the family, and remains under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office.

Tropical Depression Forms In Gulf 150 Miles South Of Apalachicola

WEAR TV3Tropical Depression Two has developed over the eastern Gulf and is expected to bring increased rain, gusty winds, rough surf, and a heightened risk of rip currents to northwest Florida and southwest Alabama over the next several days. Forecasters say the system could strengthen into Tropical Storm Bertha as it drifts slowly across the Gulf, with heavy rainfall posing the greatest threat, including the potential for localized flooding. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for parts of the Florida Panhandle, and residents are encouraged to stay alert and monitor updates as the storm's track and intensity become clearer.

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

Nap Day

Nap Day is that glorious little civic collapse where we all agree the to-do list can go choke on a shoelace and the only appointment that matters is face-first into a pillow. You don’t “celebrate” it so much as you surrender to it, like a responsible adult admitting their brain’s been running on fumes and bad decisions since Tuesday. The rules are simple: close your eyes, ignore your phone, and if anyone asks what you accomplished, you say “recovery” with the confidence of a man billing insurance. And yes, it’s absurd—so is pretending you’re productive while hallucinating spreadsheets and calling it a personality.
