What We're Talking About

The news we couldn't ignore if we tried

How Much For A Parking Spot On P'cola Beach This Weekend?!?

WEAR TV3Visitors planning to attend the 2026 Pensacola Beach Air Show should be prepared for significantly higher parking costs, as many private property owners are charging between $100 and $200 per vehicle during the event. While the steep prices have drawn attention, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office says it cannot regulate what private landowners charge, noting that property owners are free to set their own parking rates. With thousands of spectators expected for the Blue Angels performances, officials encourage attendees to arrive early and consider public parking and shuttle options if available.

A 2nd South Walton Baseball Player Drafted This Weekend

Get The CoastSouth Walton High School pitcher Denton Lord was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 17th round of the 2026 MLB Draft but has chosen to honor his commitment to Mississippi State instead of beginning his professional career. Lord became the second South Walton player drafted by the Padres this year, following first-round pick Coleman Borthwick. Meanwhile, Niceville infielder Deacon Avery, who was eligible for the draft but went unselected, will also head to college this fall after committing to Florida State. Under MLB rules, both Lord and Avery will not be eligible for the draft again until they turn 21 or complete their junior seasons, making 2029 their next opportunity.

Destin Councilwoman Arrested For 4th Of July Actions

WEAR TV3Destin City Councilwoman Teresa Hebert was arrested and charged with trespassing on a conveyance after authorities say she got into a man's unattended truck at a Destin boat ramp on the Fourth of July and moved it without his permission. According to the arrest affidavit, the truck's owner was launching his boat when Hebert allegedly drove the vehicle about 100 feet because she believed he was taking too long at the ramp. The owner said he chased after his truck before confronting Hebert, who reportedly identified herself as a Destin councilwoman. During an interview with investigators, Hebert admitted moving the truck without the owner's consent. City officials declined to comment on the case.

Man Wanted For Stealing 3 ACs From Church

WEAR TV3The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help identifying a suspect accused of stealing three air conditioning units from Brownsville Assembly of God Church in Pensacola in late June. Investigators say the man made multiple trips using a light blue tricycle with a small trailer to haul away the units. Sheriff Chip Simmons said stolen AC units are often dismantled for parts or sold as scrap, while local leaders called the theft from a house of worship especially disheartening. Anyone with information about the suspect is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers or the Escambia County Sheriff's Office as deputies work to solve the case.

Why Did The Miccosukee Indians Purchase 25 Acres In DeFuniak Springs?

MidBay NewsAlthough the Miccosukee Tribe has not announced plans for the 25-acre property it purchased in Walton County, speculation about a possible casino has prompted discussion about its potential economic impact. Experts say a casino could create jobs, generate tourism and boost tax revenue, but likely not as many high-paying positions or as much long-term economic output as a manufacturing or aerospace facility. They also caution that increased traffic, infrastructure demands and other social impacts would need to be weighed against any financial benefits. Officials emphasize that no development plans have been submitted, making any discussion about a casino purely speculative at this point.

House Clears Hurdle To Move Forward With Daylight Saving Time

FoxNewsLegislation backed by President Donald Trump that would make daylight saving time permanent has cleared a key hurdle in the U.S. House, advancing out of committee and moving closer to a full floor vote. Supporters say ending the twice-yearly clock changes would improve convenience, benefit businesses and reduce disruptions to daily life, while opponents argue permanent daylight saving time could lead to darker winter mornings and raise safety concerns for students and commuters. If approved by Congress and signed into law, the measure would eliminate the seasonal time change nationwide.

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

Cow Appreciation Day

Cow Appreciation Day is that annual moment when America looks at a thousand-pound lawnmower with feelings and decides the least we can do is say “thanks” before we turn it into a combo meal. People throw on cow-print like it’s formalwear, restaurants dangle discounts like morality coupons, and everybody pretends this is about gratitude instead of marketing with hooves. It’s wholesome in the same way a gas station bouquet is romantic: the intention is there, the consequences are complicated. Stick around—because once we start “appreciating” things we also barbecue, the calendar gets real interesting, real fast.
