Okaloosa County Proposes 2027 Annual Budget

Get The CoastOkaloosa County officials have introduced a proposed $769 million budget for fiscal year 2027 that keeps the countywide property tax rate unchanged for the 10th consecutive year while funding key priorities such as public safety, infrastructure, parks, and economic development. The spending plan reflects continued population growth, rising property values, and increased investment in capital projects and county services without raising the millage rate. County leaders say the budget maintains a conservative fiscal approach, relying on responsible financial planning to support essential services and long-term community needs.

Former Olympian To Be Arraigned Today In Vandalism Case

Washington 7NewsFormer U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn has been indicted on a felony charge of property destruction after prosecutors accused him of damaging the newly renovated lining of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. Authorities allege Hearn intentionally pulled up sections of the pool’s sealant, causing more than $1,000 in damage, while Hearn denies the allegations, saying he only examined a loose piece of material and did not vandalize the site. His attorneys have called the prosecution politically motivated, and the case comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the Reflecting Pool renovation project, which has faced issues including peeling sealant and algae growth.

CRAP! Explosive Diarhhea Outbreak Continues To Explode Across Country

CBS NewsMichigan is experiencing its largest recorded outbreak of cyclospora, a parasite that causes prolonged watery diarrhea, with nearly 1,000 reported cases and additional infections now identified in 28 other states, including a growing cluster in Ohio. The parasite spreads through food or water contaminated with fecal matter, most commonly fresh produce exposed to tainted irrigation water, and previous outbreaks have been linked to items such as bagged salads, basil, cilantro, raspberries, snow peas, and scallions. Health officials have not yet identified the source of the current outbreak, but they emphasize that cyclospora is not spread from person to person. To reduce the risk of infection, experts recommend buying whole lettuce instead of prepackaged salad mixes, removing the outer leaves, washing produce thoroughly, cooking vegetables when possible, and seeking medical care if diarrhea persists, as the infection is typically treated with antibiotics.

Rogue Councilmember Claims He Runs Town - Fires Local PD

Fox NewsThe small town of Barrackville, West Virginia, has been left without a local police department after the mayor and town council relieved the entire force of duty just days after Police Chief Zachary Freeburn resigned. The chief had alleged that town officials were overstepping their legal authority by attempting to direct police operations, while a former sergeant claimed the department's evidence room had been entered without authorization and accused town officials of improperly accessing police property. Town leaders have not confirmed those allegations, and the claims remain unverified. As the controversy continues, the Marion County Sheriff's Office has assumed responsibility for law enforcement services while residents and officials seek answers about the department's future.

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

National Don't Put all your Eggs in One Omelet Day

National Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Omelet Day is that annual reminder that life loves a single-point failure, and your breakfast shouldn’t be one of them. The “holiday” pretends it’s about cooking, but it’s really about not betting your rent money, your dignity, and your last two brain cells on one big, fragile plan you swear is “foolproof.” So today we diversify: split the eggs, split the options, maybe split from that idea you had at 2 a.m. that felt like destiny and smelled like regret. Anyway, keep your omelets small and your exits plentiful—because the only thing worse than a broken egg is acting surprised when it breaks.
