DeSantis Approves Budget - Here's What You Can Expect Across Okaloosa County

Get The CoastGov. Ron DeSantis has signed Florida’s new state budget, approving funding for numerous projects across Okaloosa County while vetoing several others. The final budget includes investments in transportation, public safety, education, water infrastructure, environmental restoration, and community improvements, preserving funding for many local priorities. However, some proposed projects did not make the final cut after the governor exercised his line-item veto authority, eliminating funding for select initiatives. The budget reflects the state’s continued focus on infrastructure, economic growth, and essential public services while trimming spending on projects deemed lower priority.

Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Birthright Citizenship

The HillJustice Samuel Alito strongly dissented from the Supreme Court’s 5-4 birthright citizenship ruling, calling it one of the Court’s most consequential decisions and warning that it would have lasting effects on the nation. He argued that the majority’s interpretation could encourage birth tourism and create national security concerns by granting citizenship to individuals born in the U.S. but raised abroad with no allegiance to the country. Alito contended that the Fourteenth Amendment was intended to confer citizenship only on those who owe allegiance to the United States at birth and criticized the Court for relying more on precedent than on the Constitution’s text. He maintained that citizenship should not be interpreted so broadly and said revisiting the issue would not strip citizenship from millions already living in the country. Justice Clarence Thomas also dissented, arguing that the prevailing interpretation reflects a modern political view rather than the Constitution’s original meaning.

NC 8 Month Old Weighs 40 Pounds

PeopleA North Carolina mother says her 8-month-old son’s unusually rapid growth has been both surprising and challenging, as he now weighs nearly 40 pounds after being born at a typical 7 pounds, 4 ounces. Jessica High says her son, Axyl, quickly outgrew infant clothing and now wears sizes intended for much older children. While his size has drawn attention online, she says doctors have confirmed that he is healthy and meeting developmental milestones. Describing him as a happy, easygoing baby with a playful personality, High says her family simply sees him as their sweet little boy and is thankful he is healthy.

She Hid Drugs In Her Butt

The Smoking GunA Florida woman is facing additional charges after authorities say a bag of cocaine was discovered during the jail booking process following her arrest on a traffic stop. According to investigators, an X-ray scan indicated an object concealed in her lower body, and the suspected drugs reportedly fell out while officers conducted a private search. The woman denied owning the cocaine, claiming she was unaware it was there and suggesting someone may have placed it inside her during a previous sexual encounter. She has since been charged with introducing contraband into a correctional facility.

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

Madeira Day

Madeira Day is that annual moment when a perfectly respectable fortified wine gets promoted to full-blown lifestyle, and everybody pretends this is normal because there’s a “day” attached to it. The premise is simple: raise a glass of Madeira—burnt-sugar elegance with a pirate’s pension plan—and toast to whatever you can still pronounce after the second pour. People claim it’s about history, islands, and tradition, but mostly it’s about giving your calendar a permission slip to act like your decisions have tannins. Stick around, because once you start celebrating a wine that survives heat, age, and poor judgment, it gets real easy to justify the rest of your bad ideas.
