The news we couldn't ignore if we tried

Dangerous Heat Wave Sweeps Across All Of Eastern And Central Time Zones

CBS NewsA dangerous heat wave is gripping more than half of the United States this week as millions prepare for the July 4th holiday. The National Weather Service says cities from New York and Philadelphia to Chicago, Dallas, and Memphis will experience some of their hottest temperatures of the year, with highs reaching the 90s and low 100s. Combined with high humidity, heat index values could feel as hot as 100 to 115 degrees, while warm overnight temperatures provide little relief. Officials are encouraging residents to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors, use air conditioning whenever possible, and protect pets by keeping them inside, providing fresh water, and avoiding walks on hot pavement. Forecasters say this is the first major heat wave of the summer and warn it could continue into next weekend.

Okaloosa County Launching In House Animal Control In September

Get The CoastOkaloosa County will begin operating its own in-house animal control service this September, ending its long-standing partnership with the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). County leaders say the phased rollout will initially focus on core animal control services while they evaluate future funding and expansion options, with the transition designed to improve long-term stability and reduce reliance on outside providers. Officials are continuing to hire staff, acquire equipment, and develop operations ahead of the September launch, while sheltering services will continue to be coordinated separately during the transition.

Michigan Parents Charged With Second Degree Murder Over Obese Child

Fox2 DetroitA Michigan couple is facing charges of second-degree murder, torture, and first-degree child abuse following the death of their 7-year-old son, Casper O'Brien, who reportedly weighed 255 pounds when he died in November 2025. Prosecutors say first responders found Casper bedridden, nonverbal, and living in unsanitary conditions inside the family's Flint Township home, where excessive clutter made it difficult for officers to enter. An autopsy determined he died from heart muscle disease, with morbid obesity listed as a contributing factor. Authorities also found the couple's 5-year-old daughter living in neglectful conditions and placed her in foster care. Prosecutors allege the parents had health insurance but failed to seek medical care for their children, despite obtaining veterinary care for their dog. Damien and Jessica O'Brien are scheduled to return to court on July 2 for a probable cause conference.

Ask Uncle Bobby

Bad advice for good people.

As heard on the B-Team Morning Show

Each weekday, some poor soul writes in for help. Uncle Bobby gives them the worst advice we can legally put on the air.

June 29 · Today's Letter

Dear Uncle Bobby,

My friends keep making fashion choices that look confused, and they ask me what I think sometimes. Should I give style advice when they do not ask for it, and how do I do it without starting an argument?

Holiday #1 of 4

Please Take My Children to Work Day

Please Take My Children to Work Day is that annual civic experiment where adults drag their little chaos gremlins into the workplace and pretend it’s “educational,” when really it’s a controlled burn of everyone’s patience. For one shining day, the office becomes a daycare with spreadsheets, and the break room turns into a hostage negotiation over fruit snacks and your last clean pen. Management smiles like they planned it, while employees quietly update their résumés and reconsider the concept of society. It’s not a joke, exactly—it’s a reminder that your job can be replaced, your sanity is optional, and somebody out there thinks this builds character.
