Santa Rosa and Okaloosa County Offer Sand In Preparation Of Flooding Potential

WEAR TV3— Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties are providing free sand to residents to help them prepare for potential flooding from heavy rainfall expected this week. Sand is available on a first-come, first-served basis at four locations in Santa Rosa: Navarre, Tiger Point Park, Pace Fire Rescue, and the corner of Pine Forest Road and Carroll Road in Milton. In Okaloosa, sand is available at Stillwell Park in Fort Walton Beach, and Crestview. Residents must bring their own bags and shovels to collect the sand. County officials are encouraging residents to take precautions ahead of the increased flood risk.

Arthur's Remnants Threaten NWFL With Flooding

Get The Coast— Okaloosa County is facing an elevated flash flood threat through Friday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur bring widespread heavy rainfall to the region. Forecasters expect an additional 6 to 12 inches of rain, with isolated areas receiving even higher amounts, creating the potential for dangerous flash flooding, rising rivers, and localized road impacts. A slight risk of severe weather, including isolated tornadoes and damaging winds, is also in place, while hazardous beach conditions such as strong rip currents, high surf, and minor coastal flooding are expected. County officials are urging residents to stay weather-aware, avoid driving through flooded roadways, monitor forecasts closely, and take advantage of available sandbag distribution sites to prepare for possible flooding.

What A Mess: Okaloosa School Board Candidates In Distict 1 Didn't Qualify

Get The Coast— The race for the District 1 seat on the Okaloosa County School District School Board will be decided in a special election after a candidate was removed from the ballot due to an issue with qualifying paperwork. The oversight left only one properly qualified candidate in the race, triggering the need for a separate election to give voters the opportunity to choose their representative. County election officials are now working through the process and timeline for the special election, which will determine who fills the District 1 seat and represents residents on the school board.

Father's Day Spending Is Higher Than Ever

WPTV— Father’s Day spending is expected to reach a record $27.9 billion this year, surpassing last year’s high of $24 billion, according to the National Retail Federation. Consumers plan to spend an average of about $227 on gifts and celebrations for dads, nearly 14% more than in 2025, despite many households reducing spending in other areas. Most shoppers are buying for their father or stepfather, while others are purchasing gifts for husbands, sons, brothers, friends, and grandfathers. Popular Father’s Day gifts continue to include greeting cards, clothing, special outings, and gift cards.
