The measure would increase the homestead exemption, reduce assessment caps on certain properties, and limit how local governments can use property tax revenue. Maney argued the proposal was rushed through the Legislature without sufficient analysis of its effects on school funding, local government finances, and the state’s tax structure, while Boyles expressed concern that the benefits would be unevenly distributed, favoring long-term homeowners while potentially increasing costs for renters and newer residents.
