Perry Ave SE Closed On Weekends Through Labor Day Weekend

Get The Coast— Fort Walton Beach officials have announced that northbound Perry Avenue SE will be closed on weekends through Labor Day weekend as part of a seasonal traffic management plan aimed at reducing congestion in residential neighborhoods near Brooks Bridge. During the closure periods, drivers will not be able to use Perry Avenue SE to access eastbound U.S. Highway 98, a route that has often been used as a shortcut around heavy traffic. The city says the measure is intended to discourage cut-through traffic on neighborhood streets and improve safety and traffic flow for residents. Motorists are encouraged to use the U.S. Highway 98 and Eglin Parkway (SR 85) intersection as an alternate route, and message boards will be posted to alert drivers of the restrictions.

Boil Order Lifted

Get The Coast— A precautionary boil water notice affecting portions of unincorporated Fort Walton Beach and Mary Esther has been lifted after follow-up testing confirmed the water is safe for normal use. The notice was issued after a raw water sample from a county well detected E. coli, prompting officials to take the well offline and conduct extensive testing throughout the treatment and distribution system. Subsequent tests found no contamination in the treated water supply, leading Okaloosa County Water & Sewer to remove the advisory. Officials emphasized that the issue was isolated to an untreated source sample and may have resulted from a sampling error or recent maintenance work, with no illnesses reported during the precautionary notice.

USA Today— An Australian woman recently faced an unexpected infestation when more than 100 exotic Madagascar hissing cockroaches were discovered living inside her home after reportedly escaping from a nearby breeding operation and multiplying over time. Authorities said the find became the largest seizure of illegal exotic invertebrates in Australia's history, with the insects valued at approximately 200,000 Australian dollars (about $140,000 U.S.). While Madagascar hissing cockroaches are often kept as pets and are generally harmless, their large size and distinctive hissing sound made the unwelcome houseguests unsettling for the homeowner. Pest specialists were eventually brought in to remove the insects and restore the property to a cockroach-free condition.

Mice Might Actually Be The Trick To Solving Lyme Disease

Stop Sending Money To Scammers!

The Smoking Gun— A Florida woman, 76, was arrested after allegedly attacking a family member who took away her phone to stop her from sending money to an online scammer posing as actor Liam Neeson. According to reports, the woman had already transferred an undisclosed amount of money to the individual and refused to stop communicating with them.
