Niceville Man Leads I-10 Chase in Alabama

WEAR TV3— A 42-year-old Niceville, Florida man was arrested after a DUI-related pursuit and a series of crashes involving multiple vehicles in Baldwin County, Alabama, on Monday, authorities said. Alabama State Troopers attempted to stop Ruben Costa after observing him failing to maintain his lane on I-10 near mile marker 44, but he fled, leading troopers onto Alabama 181, where his Chevrolet SUV collided head-on with a 2019 Toyota RAV4, triggering additional crashes involving a Chevrolet Equinox, an unoccupied ALEA patrol vehicle, and a Ford F-150. Troopers say Costa continued fleeing before crashing head-on into another Ford F-150, leaving the roadway near I-10 Exit 38, striking a concrete barrier, and causing his vehicle to catch fire. Costa and several other drivers and passengers were injured and transported to area hospitals, while some involved were not hurt. Costa was treated at USA Hospital in Mobile and later arrested Tuesday, charged with attempting to elude, first-degree DUI assault, and three counts of leaving the scene of an accident, along with multiple traffic citations, and remains in the Baldwin County Jail.
