The area, which connects schools, the library, City Hall, and other public facilities, typically sees heavy traffic, including cars, e-bikes, and e-motos. City Manager Samantha Abell emphasized the importance of safety, noting the constant presence of students traveling through the park. In response, the city is encouraging parents to talk with their children about the dangers of riding on moving vehicles, the risks of reckless behavior in parking lots, and the need to follow traffic rules and stay alert, while also asking residents to report unsafe activity.

WBRC— An Alabama mother is facing serious charges after police say she used bear spray on her young children. Officers in Leeds were called when a child ran into the street crying for help with red, swollen eyes, and investigators later learned from two children that their mother had sprayed them, including in the eyes and mouth. The children received treatment at a hospital, and the mother was arrested on a felony child abuse charge before being released on bond.

City of Fort Walton Beach - PIO, Devon Ravine— Fort Walton Beach, Fla. – On April 4, 2026, at approximately 8:05 p.m., officers with the Fort Walton Beach Police Department responded to a traffic crash involving injuries in front of Dodge’s Southern Style, located at 1 Eglin Pkwy SE (State Road 85).
Preliminary investigation indicates that a black Maserati Ghibli, operated by Tyler Martin of Fort Walton Beach, was traveling southbound on State Road 85 when the driver attempted to make a left turn across the northbound lanes. At that time, a motorcycle operated by Levi Elmore was traveling northbound in the center lane and collided with the vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist was ejected. Mr. Elmore was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding medical personnel.
The Fort Walton Beach Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit is actively investigating this incident. No additional details are available at this time.
