Stabbing At Walton Middle School In DeFuniak Springs

WEAR TV3On the first day back from Spring Break, Walton Middle School in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, was shaken by a violent incident when a 7th-grade student stabbed two classmates and an adult paraprofessional around 7:20 a.m., leaving the students in critical condition, the adult with non-life-threatening injuries, and the suspect in custody. Neighbors described the school as typically peaceful, making the chaotic scene—filled with deputies, paramedics, and even a medical helicopter—especially shocking. With many students still arriving, the district redirected buses to the Walton County Fairgrounds for reunification, which officials say went smoothly despite the circumstances. Community members and school leaders expressed grief, concern, and a desire for justice and unity, while parents and students voiced fears about safety. School was canceled for the day, and officials are evaluating when to resume classes, emphasizing their goal of returning students to what they consider a safe environment as soon as possible.

Easter Candy Has Skyrocketed Since 2020

QZEaster candy prices have surged dramatically in recent years, rising about 67% since 2020 even though overall candy spending has only increased around 15%, meaning families are paying significantly more for the same amount of treats. A family of four that once spent about $93 on Easter candy would now need roughly $155 to buy a similar haul. Popular items like Reese’s eggs, Cadbury eggs, and Hershey’s bars have jumped from around $3.50–$4 to as much as $4.79–$8.29, while shrinkflation has also reduced product sizes. Experts attribute the increase to earlier spikes in cocoa costs and steady price hikes over time, noting that many chocolates currently on shelves were produced when ingredient prices were still high, despite recent declines.

Longest Line of Cheesesteaks' Sets New World Record

ABC6Philadelphia set a new Guinness World Record by lining up 1,291 cheesesteaks in a single row at Philadelphia International Airport, capping more than a year of planning involving food vendors, volunteers, and city partners. Teams worked efficiently to assemble the sandwiches using over 900 pounds of chopped beef, hundreds of pounds of cheese, and more than a thousand rolls provided by local businesses. The record-breaking display not only highlighted one of the city’s signature foods but also served as a celebration of community collaboration and teamwork.

Cop Busted For Drunkenly Driving to Crime Scene While on Duty

Fox59An on-duty Indianapolis police detective is facing charges after allegedly arriving intoxicated to a crime scene while on call, assisting with the investigation, and then driving home despite being instructed by a supervisor to stop. Officers became suspicious after noticing the smell of alcohol and attempted to intervene, but she reportedly continued to her residence, where they later met her and transported her to a hospital for a blood draw that confirmed she was under the influence. She was subsequently arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and intoxicated endangerment, and the department’s chief has placed her on administrative leave and revoked her police powers pending the case’s outcome.

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

International Waffle Day

International Waffle Day is that annual moment when humanity pretends a breakfast grid is a cultural achievement, and honestly, I respect the commitment. It’s a holiday built on crisp edges, syrup lies, and the quiet belief that if you put enough butter on something, your problems will stop making eye contact. People will post photos like they discovered fire, restaurants will run “specials” that cost an extra three dollars for the same batter, and everybody will act shocked that it tastes good. So yes, it’s absurd on purpose—because sometimes the only thing holding society together is a warm, square distraction with little pockets to hide in.
