Valparaiso Fire Station Undergoing Renovation
WEAR TV3— After being closed for months due to mold contamination, Valparaiso Fire Station 12 has reopened, allowing crews who had been temporarily housed at City Hall since mid-2025 to move back in, a return Interim Fire Chief Alex Kukulus said was urgent because freezing temperatures threatened the fire engines parked outside. Restoring the station required extensive remediation, including removing the HVAC system, furniture, and much of the first floor, followed by air quality testing and precautionary dry fogging to ensure the mold was fully eliminated. Although the building has been deemed safe for occupancy, officials say the underlying issue has not been completely resolved, as the roof still needs replacement. Upcoming renovations—recently approved by the city council at a cost of $225,000—include installing a new HVAC system, adding drywall, completing electrical work, improving ventilation by removing the drop ceiling, and purchasing new furniture, with hopes the work can be finished within two months if contractors stay on schedule. Crews are expected to remain at Station 12 during renovations if possible, though temporary relocation remains an option that officials say would not impact emergency response times. Kukulus, who also serves as Niceville’s fire chief, is leading the department on a month-to-month basis while Valparaiso searches for a permanent chief following the previous chief’s dismissal in November.

TMZ— DNA collected from a glove discovered near Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson, Arizona home has not matched any profiles in the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos. Authorities believe the glove may have been worn by the 84-year-old’s suspected abductor, but testing of that evidence—as well as separate DNA recovered inside Guthrie’s residence—yielded no matches in the national database. The glove was found in a field roughly two miles from the home of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, and no suspects have been identified since Nancy Guthrie vanished on the night of January 31. As the investigation enters its third week, officials plan to upload the DNA profile to a commercial genealogy database in an effort to identify possible relatives of the unknown individual and generate new leads.

Smoking Gun— Authorities say a Florida man, Theodore Anderson, allegedly hit his female companion in the head by throwing a Chick-fil-A spicy chicken sandwich during an argument at their home Saturday night. Investigators report the dispute began while the pair were eating dinner, and Anderson also hurled a Styrofoam cup filled with blue Powerade, leaving the 28-year-old woman drenched. According to police, Anderson admitted to throwing the sandwich, and the woman told officers he had physically assaulted her multiple times over the three years they have lived together.

Fox35— Authorities say a Florida man’s attempted revenge unraveled in a Publix parking lot when he was allegedly caught inside a vehicle smashing the radio and windows with a hammer. Deputies report that 37-year-old Justin Allen claimed the car belonged to his ex and that he was retaliating for a robbery, but the vehicle actually belonged to a Publix employee who had no connection to him. The damage is estimated at about $17,000, and during a search, deputies say they also discovered cocaine in Allen’s possession. He now faces multiple felony charges, including burglary, criminal mischief, and drug possession, after targeting the wrong car.
