What We're Talking About

The news we couldn't ignore if we tried

Beware Mid South - Major Winter Storm Coming

Daily MailAs a powerful winter storm developed across the United States this week, multiple governors declared states of emergency in advance, warning that heavy snow, ice, sleet, and dangerously cold temperatures could stretch from Texas and the South through the Carolinas and beyond, threatening travel, power supplies, and public safety. Governors in South Carolina and North Carolina activated emergency measures to prepare roads and coordinate response efforts, urging residents to remain weather-aware, while in Texas, officials mobilized emergency resources, including the National Guard, as arctic air and freezing precipitation approached. These actions reflect broader, multi-state preparations ahead of a potentially major storm expected to affect tens of millions of people, with authorities emphasizing readiness measures, shelter availability, and limiting travel once conditions worsen.

Turns Out Talking Works Better Than Yelling Online

ABC7A red pay phone lets liberals in San Francisco call conservatives in Texas, and shockingly nobody explodes. No shouting, no dunking—just normal humans talking about life. Turns out the culture war mostly lives on screens, not phone lines.

Turns Out Comedy Shows Aren’t News—Who Knew?

FoxNewsThe FCC is reminding late-night hosts and The View that if you platform politicians, you don’t get to pretend it’s just comedy. Equal time rules exist, and apparently eye-rolling monologues don’t magically exempt you from them.

PETA Wants Groundhog Day To Look Different

NY PostAnimal rights group PETA is urging officials in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to retire the real Punxsutawney Phil from the town’s Groundhog Day tradition and replace him with a hologram, arguing that keeping a live groundhog in a small enclosure and transporting him for crowded public events is stressful and outdated. The proposal has drawn mixed reactions online, with some supporting a modernized, animal-free approach and others insisting the live groundhog is central to the tradition, while event organizers have not indicated whether any changes will be made.

Flight To JAX Delayed By De-Icing Incident In New York

PeopleA Delta Air Lines flight from New York’s LaGuardia Airport to Jacksonville was delayed after deicing fluid, a warm water-based solution used to clear ice from aircraft wings, unexpectedly leaked into the cabin and soaked a passenger while the plane was taxiing. The pilot returned to the gate so crews could inspect the Airbus A220 and assist the traveler, and Delta said the non-hazardous fluid only lightly affected the passenger’s clothing, allowing him to change and continue the trip. Following the inspection and an aircraft change, the flight departed about three hours later and arrived in Florida that evening.

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

National Southern Food Day

National Southern Food Day: because nothing says “celebrate regional cuisine” like taking a perfectly good Tuesday and deep-frying it in lard. It's the one day a year where America pretends it just discovered biscuits, and every Yankee with a cast-iron skillet suddenly starts calling things "fixin's." You don’t honor Southern food by giving it a calendar slot—you honor it by surviving gravy-induced cardiac events with dignity. But sure, let’s slap a hashtag on cornbread and call it culture.
