What We're Talking About

The news we couldn't ignore if we tried

Indiana Wins First Ever Football National Championship

YahooIndiana captured its first national championship in college football history after defeating No. 10 Miami 27–21 in Monday night’s College Football Playoff title game, sealed by Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza’s electrifying fourth-quarter touchdown run on a fourth-down quarterback draw. The victory completed a historic 16–0 season for the top-ranked Hoosiers, making them the first team to achieve an undefeated record at the highest level of the sport in more than 125 years, since Yale accomplished the feat in 1894.

D.C. To Get A Smaller Sphere, Similar To Vegas

NY PostJames Dolan, executive chairman of Sphere Entertainment and owner of Madison Square Garden, revealed plans to construct a second U.S. Sphere venue near Washington, D.C., in National Harbor, Maryland. Inspired by the highly successful but much larger Las Vegas Sphere, the new location will seat roughly 6,000 guests and feature the same cutting-edge immersive technology, including massive LED displays, advanced sound systems, and 4D effects. Dolan said the project is part of the company’s broader vision to develop a global network of immersive entertainment venues.

Parents Not Quite As Anti-Cussing These Days, Study Shows

EurekAlertA national poll from the University of Michigan suggests American parents are becoming more flexible about children’s use of profanity, with fewer than half of surveyed parents of kids ages 6 to 17 saying children should never swear. While many parents still dislike hearing curse words, they increasingly view swearing as context-dependent, influenced by the situation and the language used rather than governed by strict rules. The poll found that peers are the most common source of children’s swearing, ahead of parents, media, or other influences, and many parents of teenagers report either overlooking it or seeing it as a normal attempt to fit in socially. Researchers say the findings reflect a growing gray area in language norms, as parents try to balance guidance, context, and social realities without reacting too harshly.

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

National Coffee Break Day

National Coffee Break Day: because apparently we needed a government-sanctioned excuse to do what we've all been doing since jobs were invented—staring into a mug of hot bean juice and pretending it buys us time to emotionally re-enter society. It’s the one holiday where productivity dies in a hallway outside the break room and nobody sends flowers. Celebrated annually by clutching a paper cup like it's a rosary and hoping caffeine will fix your personality. Spoiler: it won’t, but it’ll make you talk faster while being wrong.
