Trump Adds Two New Federal Holidays

NY PostPresident Trump announced in a new executive order that most federal employees will receive two additional paid days off around Christmas — Christmas Eve on December 24 and the day after Christmas on December 26 — on top of the regular Christmas Day holiday, creating an extended break from Wednesday through Sunday for many government workers. Because Christmas falls on a Thursday this year, the order allows for a rare five-day holiday stretch, though agency leaders may still require essential personnel to work to maintain security or critical operations. The measure applies only to this year and does not establish new permanent federal holidays, which can be created only by Congress.

Powerball Climbs to Monstrous $1.5 Billion Jackpot

NY PostWith the holidays approaching, lottery players are hoping for a “green” Christmas as the Powerball jackpot has climbed to an eye-popping $1.5 billion, the fifth-largest prize in the game’s history, after no one matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing. New Yorkers crowded stores to buy tickets, with some preferring to purchase their own rather than risk disputes over gifted tickets, while others said they would share their winnings with those in need. Saturday’s drawing will mark the 45th of the current jackpot run, setting a Powerball record for the most drawings in a single cycle. Powerball officials noted that the jackpot continues to grow with each $2 ticket sold, with proceeds also supporting local public programs, and encouraged players to participate responsibly.

Today's Holidays

Celebrate the weird stuff. We do.

Holiday #1 of 4

Underdog Day

Underdog Day is that annual pat on the head for folks who never got their name on the marquee but still showed up to repaint it. It’s a holiday for second fiddles, benchwarmers, and the guy who invented sliced bread but forgot to trademark it. One day outta 365 where mediocrity gets a participation ribbon and a warm beer. And like every underdog story, it ends with everyone clapping and no one getting paid.
